847 kg of ganja worth ₹4.2 crore seized in Telangana; 2 held

Hyderabad, The Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement on Tuesday said it has dismantled a major interstate ganja trafficking network, seizing 847 kilograms of high-grade ganja valued at over ₹4.2 crore in the illicit market and arrested two habitual offenders from Odisha. 847 kg of ganja worth ₹ 4.2 crore seized in Telangana; 2 held The operation is one of the largest and most precise anti-drug actions of 2025, targeting a supply corridor running from Malkangiri to Uttar Pradesh via Telangana and Karnataka, Superintendent of Police Ch Rupesh said. Based on credible intelligence, teams intercepted a pick-up vehicle near Shamshabad road near here on August 4 and seized 847 kg of ganja from the vehicle, and arrested the two persons Khilla Dhana and Rajendar B. According to an official release, Ramesh Sukri operated as the central coordinator from Malkangiri, linked to both arrested accused through their village network. His associate, Jagadish Kuldeep, procured bulk ganja from cultivators like Shibo and Basu in remote forest areas, they said. Ten days ago, the syndicate's primary buyer, Shaffiq from Uttar Pradesh, personally handed over the pick-up vehicle to Ramesh, instructing that it be loaded with 800 kg of ganja and delivered to UP by handing over at Shamshabad, it said. The syndicate's method was precise: ganja was first moved in small loads from fields to safe village outskirts, then repacked in bags containing brown-tape-wrapped packets to mask odour. Drivers used Bengaluru National Highway and Outer Ring Road bypasses to avoid checkpoints and handovers were arranged at city outskirts to minimise exposure, the release said. Communication was restricted to basic feature phones with fresh SIMs, discarded after trips. For security, Khilla carried a sword hidden among the bags. This system had allowed the syndicate to complete multiple large deliveries without interception - until the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement's action ended their run, it said. This action has crippled a major ganja supply route to North India, the release said, adding efforts are underway to nab the absconding accused. Financial investigation and property attachment proceedings will be initiated under the NDPS Act and BNSS, it said. UP's Shahjahanpur cracks down against drone-crime 'rumours'

Shahjahanpur , Authorities here have formed two teams to scuttle rumours about drones being used to commit crimes, an official said on Tuesday. UP's Shahjahanpur cracks down against drone-crime 'rumours' District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh said such rumours were false. "People should not panic due to such rumours, nor should they forward any unverified information received on social media," he said. The DM said anyone wishing to fly a drone must first take permission from the district administration, disclose the area of operation, and state the purpose of the activity. They must also inform the local police station of the drone flying's date, time, and location. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said several posts about drone sightings, followed by thefts, were found to be fake after an investigation. "We have instructed village security committees, beat constables, sub-inspectors, chowkidars and even women police personnel to reach out to villagers and raise awareness. No incident involving drones has come to our official notice so far," Dwivedi told PTI. Drones weighing up to 250 grams are permitted for use in weddings and other functions without prior permission, but for heavier drones, written approval from the administration is mandatory. Several districts, including Ayodhya, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Meerut, and Bijnor, on Monday banned unauthorised drone operations. In Ayodhya, where drone restrictions were earlier limited to the temple town area surrounding the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, there is a blanket ban now. Adityanath had on Sunday instructed district magistrates and police to strictly monitor drone activity in light of 17 FIRs and 29 arrests linked to drone-related rumours. The chief minister warned that unauthorised drone usage could result in action under the Gangsters Act, and, if necessary, even the National Security Act . "Any attempt to spread fear or misinformation using drones will not be tolerated," Adityanath said. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

Disguised as sadhus, robbers loot cab passengers at Delhi traffic signals

On August 1, a woman was heading to Connaught Place in a cab. Near Shadipur flyover, the car stopped at a traffic signal and three 'sadhus' knocked on her window, seeking alms. The woman rolled down the window to give them Rs 200 — and one of them swiftly pulled off a gold and diamond ring from her finger and the trio fled. On Tuesday, the Delhi Police said it has arrested the three who posed as sadhus and robbed unsuspecting taxi passengers at traffic signals in West Delhi's Moti Nagar. The accused have been identified as Vinod Kamat (50), Birju (45) and his son Kabir (19), and goldsmith Gurcharan Singh (57). Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer said they received a call regarding the incident on August 1. 'On reaching the spot, the complainant reported that she was traveling from her residence in Moti Nagar to Connaught Place in a Rapido taxi. When the vehicle stopped at the red light near Shadipur Flyover, three men approached the vehicle,' Veer said. The officer said they smeared an ash-like substance on their bodies, perfecting the look of devout sadhus. The accused knocked on the complainant's window and begged for money. The complainant handed over Rs 200 to them — and lost her ring. During the investigation, police said CCTV footage from multiple cameras in the area near the crime scene were thoroughly examined. One camera showed the accused fleeing the spot in an auto-rickshaw. The auto owner was identified. On inquiry, the owner told police that she had rented the three-wheeler to Kamat and provided his mobile number. Police nabbed Kamat near Ashok Park Metro Station. Following his questioning, police raided a jhuggi in Punjabi Bagh and arrested Kabir and Birju. All three accused admitted to their involvement in the incident. Police said they had sold the stolen ring Gurcharan for Rs 26,000. A raid was conducted at his shop in GTB Nagar, and he was nabbed. 'During questioning, Singh admitted to purchasing the ring and melting it. He handed over the melted gold and 61 stone pieces,' another officer said. During further questioning, police said it was revealed that Kamat provided the getaway vehicle. Police said they are ascertaining if the accused have been involved in previous such cases.
