Three Jitra IKBN students killed, one injured in NSE crash
Kota Setar police chief ACP Siti Nor Salawati Saad said they received information about the accident at 2.10 pm, involving two motorcycles – a Yamaha 135LC and a Yamaha Y16ZR – and a Naza Citra car.
She said the dead were identified as Muhamad Habil Mohd Sobri from Gurun, Muhammad Fahmi Jamel from Jeniang, Sik, and Muhamad Arif Aifan Derani from Bukit Selambau, Sungai Petani. Another friend, Muhammad Adib Aiman Mohd Hasani from Subang Jaya, Selangor, was injured.
'The accident is believed to have occurred when the Yamaha 135LC motorcyclist lost control and crashed into the rear of a car that had stopped in the emergency lane.
Another motorcycle, trailing behind, was unable to avoid the collision and crashed into the first bike.
'In the crash, two motorcyclists and one pillion rider died at the scene, while another individual was injured. The car's driver and passengers were unharmed,' she said.
She said that the bodies of the three victims, all 19, were sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for post-mortem.
'The injured victim was sent to the same hospital for treatment. The driver of the car has been detained for further investigation, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
'Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and provide information at the Kota Setar Traffic Police Station or contact Investigating Officer Insp Mohd Lukmanul Hakim Mohd Fauzi at 04-7321222 or 013-9964614,' she said.
Meanwhile, a classmate of the victims, Nik Muhammad Hanif Darwis Abdul Qayyum, 19, said the trio were returning to their respective hometowns for Hari Raya Aidiladha on Saturday.
'We woke up at 7 am and got ready for class at 8.30 am. Classes ended early today at 12.30 pm so students could return home earlier. They left around 1.30 pm. I shook hands and reminded Muhamad Arif Aifan to ride safely, and he just smiled without saying anything,' he told reporters when met at HSB's Forensic Department today.
He only found out about the accident later after receiving messages from friends via WhatsApp.

Over 50 luxury vehicles seized during JPJ operation
KUALA LUMPUR: A Rolls-Royce worth RM3mil was among 53 luxury vehicles seized during a three-day enforcement operation by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) around the Klang Valley. The crackdown, codenamed "Ops Luxury 2.0", was conducted by Kuala Lumpur JPJ based on intelligence gathering and public tip-offs. JPJ senior Enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said various offences were detected during the operation, including expired road tax, lack of valid insurance, expired or non-existent driving licences, and the display of unregistered number plates. "The operation was carried out under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations," he told reporters on Friday (Aug 1). Initial investigations revealed that three of the seized high-end vehicles were being driven by foreigners without valid road tax or insurance coverage. "These vehicles were rented, while some were owned by companies where the individuals were employed. "One of the foreign drivers was also found using a fake international driving permit, allegedly purchased in Dubai for RM5,000. "Among the other vehicles seized were a Lamborghini, a BMW i8, and an Aston Martin. Muhammad Kifli said some of these vehicles had reportedly not renewed their road tax since 2022. He said that there are currently more than 1,000 luxury vehicles nationwide flagged by JPJ for not having valid road tax or insurance. He stressed that JPJ would not practise selective enforcement and would continue taking firm action regardless of vehicle type or status. "We will not compromise with anyone who fails to comply with traffic regulations," he said.

Man killed after crashing car into 4WD making a turn near Kulai
KULAI: A 30-year-old man was killed in a crash after his car collided with another vehicle that was turning right into a junction. Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at around 7.30pm at KM57 of Jalan Johor Baru–Air Hitam (southbound) on Wednesday (July 30). "The crash is believed to have happened when the victim's car was heading straight from Simpang Renggam towards Kulai. "Upon reaching the location, the victim then crashed into a four-wheel vehicle that was being driven by a man who was making a right turn into a junction," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 31). The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries. 'Meanwhile, the 60-year-old driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor scratches on his head and hand. 'The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said. Headmaster dies in Bera road accident, motorcyclist killed by falling tree
KUANTAN: The headmaster of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Durian Hijau in Jerantut was killed today when his car skidded off the road and crashed near SK Guai in Bera. Bera police chief Supt Zulkiflee Nazir said Mohd Sabri Bakar, 59, from Temerloh, was driving a Proton Preve to his brother's house in Kampung Guai when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle at about 6.30 pm. He died at the scene. 'Members of the public pulled the victim out before the car caught fire and was 80 per cent destroyed,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. In a separate incident, Zulkiflee said a 65-year-old motorcyclist, Kamar Seman, was killed when a tree fell on him while he was riding along KM34 Jalan Kuala Bera-Chenor around 7 pm.
