What's the Difference Between A French Bob And An Italian Bob?

My current mood boards are filled with Euro summer: romantic evenings on the Seine, sipping Aperol spritzes on a beach in Cinque Terre, galavanting through the Tuileries Garden after shopping in Le Marais, taking a pasta-making class with my besties in Rome. My mood boards, as you'll have it, are also basically all about bob haircuts right now. It's the biggest summer hair trend for a reason! It's breezy, off your shoulders (mostly), easy to style (if you know how), and looks chic on legit every face shape and hair texture. But how on earth do I decide between the two hottest versions, hence the conundrum I'm having right now: Italian bob vs French bob. While both are shorter cuts, an Italian bob is generally a bit longer and goes past your chin, sometimes even hitting just at your shoulders (like a lob). Italian bobs are voluminous and usually have some layering that helps increase lift and build a round shape. For this reason, they usually work best on thick and coarse hair textures or those with curly or wavy hair. French bobs, on the other hand, are typically chin-length or shorter with a blunt cut. They don't have as much natural movement and bounce through the ends, but often tend to incorporate bangs or face-framing layers that add definition. Fine hair and a French bob go hand-in-hand: It makes hair look a bit fuller since the blunt ends are stacked on top of each other, but gets rid of a lot of the weight that can make your hair look flat against your head at the roots. Styling is often a bit different between these two bobs. Think of the vibes. Italian summers are sexy and romantic, so a bob inspired by that would be too. It's curly and glam, complete with dramatic side-parting and a soft, fluffy finish. You can wear it with your natural texture, or opt for a big, bouncy blowout (a round brush and hair dryer will be your friend with this cut, btw). Summers in Paris, though, are busier and on-the-go, hence why a French bob is typically so simple to style. Usually, it's enough to just air dry, spritz in some texturizing spray, and shake it out. Or grab a flat iron and add a few bends around your face to add movement. Dua Lipa's Y2K-Inspired French tips are already the manicure of the summer

Every time I open the Instagram app, I'm hoping there's a new Dua Lipa photo dump. She always delivers, whether it's a new holiday destination, a cool outfit I def can't afford, pics with her fiancé Callum Turner, or the latest makeup trend (still not over those green lashes, btw). I'm living vicariously! Lately, though, her feed has been filled with all of the manicures she's been sporting on her Radical Optimism Tour. And those I can actually copy, including the most summer-coded look she just dropped: a set of floral French tips, complete with the cutest Y2K rhinestones. The singer shared how excited she is to play her sold-out stadium show in Liverpool with a set of summery, blingy nails. I mean, they really do scream "four sold-out stadium shows," right? Although her nights at Wembley were the main event, her manicure (and, in turn, a few detail shots of her stunning engagement ring) was all we wanted to stare at. Created by her go-to nail artist Michelle Humphrey, Dua's almond-shaped nails have a teensy bit of length, but still feel minimalist and soft, especially with the simple white French tips (a classic look that will never, ever go out of style). But she upped the ante with rhinestone flowers—like, these lil daisies are fully made of itsy rhinestones—in a mix of bright colours that feel peak summertime. Of course, if you wanted to copy the look yourself, you'll need a stable hand to create precise French tips. But once you get that down (I always do the tape hack: line up a piece of tape to the edge of your nail, leave out where you want the French and paint over it, then remove once dry). From there, you just have to stick on some rhinestones. Make it easier by opting for ones already in a flower shape (like these from Deco Beauty). Or if you wanna get in the DIY zone, grab a set of tiny nail rhinestones in a mix of colours to create your own bb flower designs. In another photo dump, you can see Dua dancing at a party celebrating her Wembley shows, martini in hand. That's exactly how this mani should be worn: celebrating. On top of her sold-out shows, Dua just confirmed her engagement to actor Callum Turner after months of speculation. So, we're anticipating lots of bridal coded nail looks in her future. For now, though, we'll happily take all of her summer manis. She is the CEO of vacays, after all.
