Popular tourist hub to fine airline passengers who stand up before plane stops
Turkish civil aviation authority
said it imposed the order after receiving complaints from passengers. The rules came into effect in Apirl.
Turkish media said fines are around US$70 (£50), although no amount is mentioned in the authority's guidance. The authority warned that there was a "serious increase" in such incidents, with many complaints about passengers grabbing overhead baggage before their plane had been parked.
The country attracts tens of millions of tourists annually. The aviation authority has mandated that commercial airlines make an in-flight announcement and report passengers who fail to comply with the rules.

‘Tourism footfall in UP likely to reach 80 crore by 2028'
Lucknow: Tourism is set to add Rs 70,000 crore to Uttar Pradesh's economy, with footfall potentially reaching 80 crore by 2028. Estimates suggest that by 2028, tourist arrivals in the state could cross the 80 crore mark, while the tourism sector's economic contribution is expected to touch Rs 70,000 crore. Citing these figures on Wednesday, an official spokesperson said that tourism would also boost allied industries like hospitality and transport, creating local jobs. "Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant rise in tourist arrivals, particularly from domestic travellers. In 2023, the state welcomed 48 crore visitors, with Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura, and Prayagraj alone drawing 28.79 crore of them. So far in 2025, tourist footfall in these four spiritual hubs surged to 41.56 crore, underscoring UP's growing stature as a premier destination for religious and cultural tourism," an official said, adding that the numbers do not include the footfall during the Mahakumbh 2025. Officials said that Uttar Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a major tourism hub, with cities like Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mathura, Prayagraj, Naimisharanya, Gorakhpur, and Vindhyachal (Mirzapur) becoming key destinations. Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh will showcase its rich cultural, spiritual and natural heritage at the Japan Tourism Expo 2025 scheduled from Sep 25 to 28, an official spokesperson said on Wednesday. The UP tourism department will participate with a powerful and strategic presence, highlighting the state's heritage to a global audience, particularly visitors and investors from Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. Officials said a themed pavilion spanning 54sqm will be set up at the venue. It will use advanced technology like digital LED screens, auto-navigation displays and AR-based selfie panels to offer an immersive experience. Visitors will also get a glimpse of the state's handicrafts, culture, music and festivals, enriching their overall experience. "Information about UP's top tourist destinations will be shared with Japanese visitors. To facilitate this, special booklets will be printed in both English and Japanese.
