Bumper crowd for Louth GAA club's 5k
I was only after arriving when I met up with hurler Sean Byrne from New Muirhevna who said he was there to help with the stewarding and said they were expecting a huge crowd to take part.
Next I got a word with ex footballer Pat Mackin from Knockbridge who played with the seniors for 20 years and said it was a lovely evening for the 5K and they were expecting more than 250 to take on the race.
I then headed over for a chat with club chairperson and an old friend of mine Eugene Kirk from Grange who was there with his son Oisin. He told me he was very proud to be there to make sure the inaugural race went off without a hitch and was delighted that the four clubs had come together to help raise money both for the upkeep of the club and help with their brand new pitch which is in the pipeline too.
He then introduced me to chairperson of the ladies team Shane Darcy who was in great form and was looking forward to the run. When I asked if any of his team would be taking part, he jokingly replied 'of course they are, if they're not then they're dropped'!
I did manage to get a quick word with main organiser Fiona Carpenter from Lisroland View who was extremely busy that evening but did say the entire even had come together in a short period of time, around 3 months and was pleased all four clubs showed such enthusiasm towards the fundraiser for the upkeep of the pitch and the grounds.
Not too far away I managed to get a quick chat with Raymond Kelly from Stephenstown who was on the race organising committee and is a manager of the Division 5 team and has been a Brides member for more years than he can remember. He is also a North East Runner and was really looking forward to making sure the event took place without any major incidents.
Next I headed over for a chat with father and son Noel and Ruairí Carpenter from Lisroland View. Ruairí is a Louth Minor player and said neither would be taking part but were happy to be stewarding. They went on to say it's a great event for the Knockbridge community and there's a great buzz of anticipation around the ground.
After this I met up with Andrew Cumiskey from Rathiddy but is better known as the main man from Frank's Carpets from the North Link Retail Park and is responsible for the Ladies u16 and u12 teams who told me there was a lot of preparation getting everything for the 5k but as the start grew closer he was really looking forward to it.
Next I headed over for a quick word with two ladies Sharon Kelly and Deirdre McEnteggart both from Knockbridge. Sharon said she was certainly looking forward to the run and had got the bug after taking part in a 'Couch to 5k'after Christmas. Deirdre said she wasn't taking part but was there to cheer on all the kids during the race.
After this I managed a quick word with Paul Quigley from Lennonstown Manor who is a North East Runner and said he wasn't sure how well he'd go after doing the Newry Half Marathon the previous weekend had found it a bit challenging, but was looking forward to the first Knockbridge 5k all the same.

I then had the pleasure of meeting Mary McKenna from Little Ash and Kathleen McNally from Rathiddy who said they were there to help out and would be making sure the runners got their sustenance after they'd finished with plenty of tea and refreshments.
Not too far away I met up with Caitriona McCaughey from Dundalk who was warming up and was looking forward to the race.
I then managed to get a quick word with Rita Sweeney from Grange who said she was just there to help out and certainly didn't want me to mention how she had featured on the tv coverage during the big Louth win against Meath in Croke Park a few weeks ago!
Making my way onto the pitch I then got a word with Padraig Smith from Lisroland View, Deirdre Mackin from Rathiddy, Susan and Lauren Fennell from Knockbridge who are all club members were looking forward to the race.
They were then joined by Rachel Rice from Blackrock who told me she plays with the St. Brides ladies and was going to be leading the warm up exercises before the race actually got under way.
I then headed over for a word with Orla Callan from Marlmount and Brenda Kieran from Rathbrist who told me their kids Theo and Ellie Callan, Adam, Joey, Georgia and Dylan are all at the school and have just started to play with the Brides, so they certainly weren't going to miss the fundraiser.
After this I met Glen, Lisa, Jack and Killian Crowe from Seafield Road in Blackrock who said they were all looking forward to the run and thought it was a great idea as a fundraiser for the club.
Not too far away I got a word with Conor McClenaghan from Haggardstown who said he is an ex player and ex student at the school and was definitely there to support the run and was really looking forward to it.
Beside Conor I then caught up with Emma and Paddy O'Connor from Lisroland View who said it was a lovely evening for the race and they were going to be stewarding throughout.
After this I met up with Sinead and Dermot McKeown from Blackrock and Louise Wynne from Lisheen Park who were looking forward to the start and wanted to say a word of thanks to Stephen Hillard from Pro Property whom they said was one of main sponsors of the event.
As Rory McClean the teacher from St, Mary's School called everyone to order on the PA, I caught up with Deirdre Searson from Loughantarve from the camogie club who said she was a steward for the race but wanted a special mention for sister-in-law and niece Tara and Aoife McArdle who were running that evening and to wish them all the best.
Next I met Una Sheils from Dunmahon who was there with niece Niamh Bailey from Knockbridge and told me they were there to support their local club and were looking forward to the run on such a lovely sunny evening.
I then got a word with father and son Eamon and Emmett Kirk from Ballinclare. Eamon was armed with a camera and was there to immortalise the event while Emmett was there to help out to make sure the event ran smoothly.
As the communal stretching got under way I managed to get a quick word with Lorna McLoughlin from Loughantarve who was with son Kyla and Marion Brabazon from Lisroland View who was with daughter Gia and said they were there to support the runners on such a lovely evening.
Finally, before I departed I met Padraig Murphy from Avondale Park who said he was there with his son Patrick, a member of St. Gerards AC who was warming up for the race and agreed they had got a lovely evening for the first Knockbridge5K and wished the club all the best.

Cocaine worth £100m seized by Border Force officers in huge port bust
It is the sixth-largest cocaine haul found since records began. Border Force officers have seized 2.4 tonnes of cocaine with a value of almost £100 million in one of the biggest drugs busts in years. The enormous haul was found under containers on a ship arriving into London Gateway port from Panama, the Home Office said. Specialist officers detected the shipment earlier this month after carrying out an intelligence-led operation. With help from the port operator, they moved 37 large containers to get at the stash. Worth an estimated £96 million, it marks the sixth-largest cocaine seizure since records began. Minister for migration and citizenship Seema Malhotra said: "Drugs gangs trying to import illegal substances into the UK are a blight on society. "We will leave no stone left unturned in our pursuit of organised crime gangs inflicting addiction, misery and death upon Britain's communities. Well done to Border Force Maritime officers on a hugely successful operation, which has struck a major blow against the criminals threatening our country." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Cocaine-related deaths in England and Wales rose by 31% between 2022 and 2023, the Home Office said. Border Force Maritime director Charlie Eastaugh said: "This seizure – one of the largest of its kind – is just one example of how dedicated Border Force maritime officers remain one step ahead of the criminal gangs who threaten our security. "Our message to these criminals is clear – more than ever before, we are using intelligence and international law enforcement co-operation to disrupt and dismantle your operations." Container ships are one of the main methods used by gangs to smuggle cocaine into the UK, Mr Eastaugh told The Times. Meanwhile, a haul of 20 firearms, 320 rounds of ammunition, 170kg of ketamine and 4,000 MDMA pills have been found in a lorry at Dover Port. National Crime Agency investigators estimate the street value of the ketamine would have been around £4.5 million and £40,000 for the MDMA. The driver, a 34-year-old Tajikstan national, was arrested on suspicion of smuggling the illegal items.

Tammy Hembrow celebrates an early Christmas in July with children after fleeing the country following split from husband Matt Zukowski: 'My soul needed this'
Tammy Hembrow fled the country this week after announcing her shock split from husband Matt Zukowski. The pair are headed for divorce after just seven months of marriage, and the fitness influencer has jetted off to New Zealand to rest and recuperate. And Tammy is very much in doting mother mode as she enjoys the idyllic getaway with her children. Tammy took to Instagram on Saturday to share a series of images and clips showing her and her three children — Wolf, nine, daughter Saskia, seven, and toddler Posy, three — living it up in Queenstown. The family foursome were getting into the festive spirit early, celebrating a whimsical Christmas in July. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Tammy, rugged up in a fleecy jumper, with her midriff exposed, posed happily with her brood in front of a wintry scene dotted with festive candy canes and large, illuminated Christmas presents. Another photo showed the influencer posing in front of the same scene, hugging her three children tight. There was also time for some sweet shopping too, with another shot showing her youngsters staring in wonderment through a local Queenstown candy shop window. It wouldn't be a winter escape without some skiing, and Tammy also shared a short clip of her flaunting her style on the slopes. 'Christmas in July because who doesn't love a lil winter Christmas magic?' Tammy captioned the sweet snaps. 'When I tell you my soul NEEDED thissss. Forever my favourite holiday. 'A reminder of warmth, family, the magic of slowing down & the joy that lives in the littlest moments. The cosiest first night in NZ w my babies!!' The post was met with a flurry of comments from friends and followers, with one offering: 'Glad you're enjoying your time here Mama, you deserve it always, better days are coming, sending love.' Another chimed in with a similar sentiment: 'I love this for you guys! You're an amazing mama and you're doing a great job.' Tammy announced her shock split from Matt in an emotional video on Sunday. The Love Island Australia star also revealed the couple's separation in a sombre Instagram Story, telling fans the decision was not taken lightly. 'It's with a heavy heart I share that Tammy and I have decided to separate,' Matt began. 'Both of us have struggled with making this decision; however we need to do what is right for ourselves and her three children. 'This wasn't a decision we took lightly. Our time together will always be cherished and never forgotten,' he added, before thanking fans for their support and asking for privacy. Despite their short-lived marriage, both parties have asked for privacy as they adjust to life post-breakup. 'We appreciate everyone's support and space at this time as we navigate the split,' Matt concluded in his emotional post. In a post shared to Instagram on Thursday, Tammy announced she was heading to Queenstown with her kids, before sharing footage of the family at the airport. 'Errands before our lil getaway. Honestly this couldn't have come at a more perfect time' Tammy wrote in her caption. 'Guys, give me all your Queenstown recommendations,' she added alongside a series of images in which she posed alongside her car. Tammy later addressed the split in an emotional TikTok video, telling fans she would be getting a divorce. 'I don't want to get into the details, and I want to be sensitive to everyone involved,' she told fans. 'Obviously, when you marry someone, you do it thinking that it is going to be forever, and I blame no one but myself,' Tammy continued while breaking down in tears. 'I've made not the best choices when it comes to relationships. I'm good at putting on rose-coloured glasses. 'Obviously the worst part for me is that I have kids. I don't care about me, I know I will be okay, but I feel awful.' The news came less than 24 hours after Matt was spotted spending time with sports journalist Tayla Little at the London Tavern in Melbourne. Tammy and Matt tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at Château Du Soleil in Byron Bay on November 23. They got engaged in December 2023, following just three months of dating. The jet-setting pair became engaged in the Maldives, before heading off to Greece and Bali for luxury holidays.

Crop, Livestock Supply Stable Amid Hot, Dry Weather
SHAH ALAM, June 28 (Bernama) -- Crop and livestock supplies nationwide remain stable despite the ongoing hot and dry weather caused by the Southwest Monsoon, according to the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM). Its Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the ministry has not received any major complaints or reports of serious supply disruptions. There have been some complaints, but they are isolated and weather-related, whether due to floods or drought, he added. 'Overall, disruptions are minimal and the situation remains under control,' he told reporters after officiating the Agriculture Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) @KPKM carnival here today. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) earlier reported that the Southwest Monsoon, which began on May 10, is expected to last until September. Separately, Mohamad said the coconut industry holds strong potential to become a key contributor to the national economy, similar to pineapples. He noted rising demand for both mature coconuts, which are being actively cultivated in Sabah, and young coconuts, especially from China. 'The crop is expected to generate impressive export value, just like pineapples, which have surpassed RM1 billion in sales,' he said. Mohamad had previously praised the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) for driving national production and export growth in the sector.
