98,619 Mumbai textile mill workers eligible for homes, DyCM Shinde
He said this while responding to a question raised by NCP legislator Rohit Pawar and others in the state Assembly.
DyCM Shinde further stated that the government issued a government resolution on March 15, 2024, for making available homes to the workers from closed and sick textile mills from Mumbai in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The government has assured that homes in the MMR region will not only be affordable but will also be equipped with essential facilities to ensure a dignified living for mill workers.
He said that so far, 15,870 homes have been distributed to textile mill workers -- 6,925 in 2012; 2,634 in 2016; 2,417 in 2016, and 3,894 in 2020.
He said that two developers have been selected after the expression of interest was issued, following the consent of the high-power committee for the construction of homes. The online forms are being filled up by the textile mill workers from June 16 for homes, and so far, 2,094 textile mill workers have submitted online applications.
The Deputy CM said the urban development department has initiated a process for the redevelopment of 11 chawls situated on the lands of nine mills of National Textile Corporation.
Earlier, Dy CM Shinde announced that one lakh homes will be constructed for mill workers. He instructed the officials that in order to implement the ambitious 'Houses for All' scheme, the state's new housing policy should focus on affordable, sustainable and environmental-friendly houses. He instructed the officials to prepare a detailed policy within a month so that citizens could easily benefit from the schemes of MHADA and the housing department and speed up the stalled redevelopment projects in the city.

Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], July 8 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra said that under India's BRICS presidency next year, the forum will have 'a people-centric approach and the spirit of humanity first.' He stated that India, under BRICS chairmanship, will continue to work closely on all key issues. In his address at the session on 'Environment, COP-30, and Global Health' at the 17th BRICS Summit on Monday, PM Modi said, 'Our goal will be to redefine BRICS as Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability.' 'Under India's BRICS chairmanship next year, we will continue to work closely on all key issues. Our goal will be to redefine BRICS as Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability. Just as we brought inclusivity to our G20 Presidency and placed the concerns of the Global South at the forefront of the agenda, similarly, during our Presidency of BRICS, we will advance this forum with a people-centric approach and the spirit of 'Humanity First.' 'These countries should have the same confidence that developed countries have in shaping their future. Sustainable and inclusive development of humanity cannot be achieved as long as double standards persist. The 'Framework Declaration on Climate Finance' being released today is a commendable step in this direction. India fully supports this initiative,' he added. He emphasised that the health of the planet and the health of humanity are 'deeply intertwined.' He stated, 'The COVID-19 pandemic taught us that viruses do not require visas, and solutions cannot be chosen based on passports. Shared challenges can only be addressed through collective efforts.' He stated that BRICS has also placed special emphasis on enhancing cooperation in the health sector and termed the BRICS Vaccine R&D Centre, launched in 2022, a significant step in this direction. Highlighting India's cooperation with all nations, PM Modi said, 'Guided by the mantra of 'One Earth, One Health,' India has expanded cooperation with all countries. Today, India is home to the world's largest health insurance scheme 'Ayushman Bharat', which has become a lifeline for over 500 million people. An ecosystem for traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, and Siddha has been established.' 'Through Digital Health initiatives, we are delivering healthcare services to an increasing number of people across the remotest corners of the country. Adani Group has secured its third major project in Mumbai, the Motilal Nagar redevelopment in Goregaon (West), following the Dharavi redevelopment and the Bandra Reclamation land deal. MHADA announced on July 7 that it has signed a redevelopment agreement with the Adani Group for the Motilal Nagar 1, 2, and 3 colonies project in Mumbai. On July 7, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) announced that it has signed a redevelopment agreement with the Adani Group for the Motilal Nagar 1, 2, and 3 colonies project. This marks Adani Group's third major real estate project in the city, following the Dharavi redevelopment and the acquisition of 17 acres in Bandra Reclamation. The Motilal Nagar project is estimated to cost around ₹36,000 crore. With this agreement, the Adani Group has been formally appointed as the Construction and Development (C&D) agency for the project, one of Mumbai's largest housing redevelopment initiatives, spanning 142 acres in the western suburb. According to MHADA, the Motilal Nagar redevelopment project is the largest redevelopment project in the country to be implemented through the construction and development model. The Motilal Redevelopment project will rehabilitate 3,372 eligible residential units under MHADA, 328 eligible commercial units, and 1,600 eligible slum tenements per the 1971 Slum Act. MHADA said in a statement that the agreement signing ceremony was held at MHADA headquarters in the presence of Sanjeev Jaiswal, vice president and CEO of MHADA, and Pranav Adani, director of Adani Properties Pvt. Ltd., among others. "The long-cherished dream of the residents of Motilal Nagar is now taking a concrete shape. We aim to make this the finest redevelopment project in the country, ensuring transparency, quality, and social commitment through MHADA's implementation," Sanjeev Jaiswal, VP and CEO of MHADA said. "This dream of redevelopment will no longer remain on paper; it is becoming a reality. Through this project, MHADA is taking a crucial step toward providing residents with modern, secure, and well-equipped homes," Jaiswal said. Through this redevelopment, MHADA will receive 397,100 lakh sq m of constructed area from the developer. This will significantly boost MHADA's housing stock in the near future," MHADA said in the statement. What is the Motilal Nagar redevelopment project? According to MHADA, Motilal Nagar 1, 2, and 3 currently comprise 3,700 tenements, and the rehabilitation will be carried out over an area of approximately 584,100 lakh sq m. Additionally, non-resident tenants will be provided with 987 sq m of commercial space. The construction of the rehabilitation units is expected to be completed within seven years. A five-acre central park will be a key feature of the project. Priority will be given to resident rehabilitation, and excellent traffic and mobility planning is part of the overall design, MHADA said. Moti Nagar redevelopment Master Plan According to MHADA, in order to prepare the master plan, the Adani Group has enlisted international consultants. "The comprehensive master plan has been developed by Mecanoo, a renowned architecture firm based in the Netherlands. The infrastructure planning was done by Buro Happold, a London-based consultancy firm specialising in infrastructure development. The residential buildings under the rehabilitation scheme will also be equipped with solar panels," MHADA said in a statement.
