NJ residents returning home as wildfire rages on
'We left late last night,' said Charlene Sherriff of Forked River. 'The traffic was ridiculous. By the time we finally got to our hotel, it was midnight.'

Sherriff returned home Wednesday to no power and spent the afternoon in search of ice to save whatever food she has left.
Nikki Esposito was working at Tractor Supply in Waretown when the store was forced to close down early. She drove home on Route 9, right as portions of the highway were being shut down.
'It was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen,' said Esposito. 'Just watching the wind bring the flames closer to the actual highway, it was pretty wild. It was insane. And you could actually feel it. Like, you could feel the heat on the car. It was that close.'
New Jersey wildfire smoke to impact NYC and NJ air quality
James Herbst of Lacey Township said he watched as Liberty Door & Awning burned to the ground. He worked at the family-owned business for more than 20 years.
'The building just engulfed in five minutes,' said Herbst. 'It went to the right side of the building, to the roof, to all the material inside, to everything. And it came down quick.'

Heavy rain, flooding expected to hit NYC area
NEW YORK (PIX11) — If the heat and humidity weren't enough, now New Yorkers have to brace for potential downpours on Friday afternoon. Heavy rain is expected to hit the city from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and it could cause some flooding in the area, according to officials. 'NYers are encouraged to prepare for potential heavy rain from 4 PM to 11 PM today. During periods of heavy rain causing flooding, move to higher ground. If in a basement, move to a higher floor. Two people killed in flash flooding in New Jersey
PLAINFIELD, N.J. (PIX11) — Following flash flooding that swept through New Jersey on Monday, two people were found dead in Plainfield, according to the city's office of communications. The two victims were in their vehicle when it was swept up during the height of the storm, a post from the city's Facebook page announced. They were both pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
