Proposed T3 terminal at city airport to have arrival & departure facilities

Bhubaneswar: Authorities of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here have dropped the plan of segregated arrival and departure in two terminals (T1 & T3) and have decided to redesign the proposed T3 terminal into a standalone integrated facility. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now T-3 will be built over a 65,000 sqm area and will be able to handle 86 lakh flyers annually and 3,000 in an hour during peak time. An integrated terminal has departure and arrival facilities in one building. "In a meeting with stakeholders, we decided that it (T3) will be designed to handle both arrivals and departures. Segregation would have brought difficulties in handling passengers and other operations at both lounges," said BPIA director Prasanna Pradhan. "There is land available for the project in the operational area and close to the T1 building. There are altogether 18 aprons for aircraft to enter bays, but after the T3 is built, six more aerobridges will be required," he added. Officials privy to the development said the cost estimate for the project could touch Rs 1,000 crore. "The project estimate has been done. Now it needs to be passed to the board to start the project," an official said. The city airport had only one terminal before 2013, with the old domestic terminal converted into the international terminal (T2). In March 2013, a new state-of-the-art domestic terminal was constructed at a cost of Rs 145 crore on a modular pattern to allow further expansion. It can handle around 1,000 flyers at a time. Officials said that considering the air traffic, passenger comfort and commercial activities, the design of the new terminal will be finalised. Currently, the airport witnesses a daily footfall of more than 15,000. Five domestic destinations — Patna, Lucknow, Kochi, Jaipur, Dehradun and Indore — were recently added. Other cities directly connected with Bhubaneswar are Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Ranchi, Allahabad, Hyderabad, Raipur, Varanasi and Ahmedabad.

Noida airport to be ready by November, minister says after review meet

Noida: The Noida International Airport — which has missed several deadlines since its foundation stone was laid in Nov 2021 — will be operational by Nov this year, industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' announced on Saturday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "During the SP and BSP govts, the airport project would surface only around elections before disappearing again — like a genie back into its bottle. But in the past eight years, work actually moved beyond files gathering dust. And now, the airport is set to be fully completed by Nov this year. It will be the largest airport in Asia and the fourth largest in the world," Gupta said during a review meeting of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). The minister's announcement comes after multiple missed deadlines. Originally scheduled for completion by Sept last year, the timeline was revised to April this year, then pushed to May-June because of pending work on the terminal building. This March, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had set a May 15 deadline for domestic flights and June 25 for international operations. According to officials of Noida International Airport Ltd, the concessionaire presented a phased timeline during a review meeting last month — cargo and domestic operations were expected by Sept 15, and full international services beginning in Nov. But as construction continues, meeting the Nov deadline seems easier said than done. The airport project still needs crucial approvals, including security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and an aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). According to officials, the project's overall physical progress stands at over 80%, but the runway and airside infrastructure is more than 90% complete. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The passenger terminal building is progressing steadily, with roofing and interior work currently in force. Multiple agencies are working on the terminal, coordinating civil work and installation of technical systems. However, supporting infrastructure has shown significant progress. A 750-metre interchange and internal road connecting the airport with the Yamuna Expressway are complete. Water and sewage treatment plants, which were 40% ready in March, are now advancing rapidly. The air traffic control building and the installation of CNS/ATM systems by the Airports Authority of India are also nearing completion. With the project getting delayed with every passing month, the state govt has imposed a daily fine of Rs 10 lakh on the concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), since Jan 1. Once complete, this 1,334-hectare project will be NCR's second full-fledged commercial airport, after Delhi's IGI. Hindon terminal in Ghaziabad, which is under the Indian Air Force, has also started commercial flights to metro cities.

From Dev Bhoomi to Khel Bhoomi - Himachal Pradesh's way forward for sporting transformation

Shimla, July 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh, revered as Dev Bhoomi for its spiritual heritage and scenic beauty, is now transforming as Khel Bhoomi — a rising land of sporting excellence. A government spokesperson said here today that the state is undergoing a dynamic transformation into a sports powerhouse. The evolution is driven by the government's commitment to developing world-class infrastructure, nurturing young talent, and creating an inclusive sports ecosystem, he said, asserting that Himachal is not only advancing its sporting landscape but also setting an example for other states to follow. At the heart of this change is the construction of a multi-purpose sports complex in Kharedi, Nadaun (Hamirpur district). "With an investment of Rs 65 crore, this facility will include an eight-lane swimming pool, shooting range, wrestling and boxing arenas, kabaddi and yoga centres, along with modern infrastructure for table tennis and badminton. This landmark initiative aims to shape the next generation of sporting talent in the state," he said. "Further boosting infrastructure, the government is setting up a 100-bed sports hostel in Luhnu, Bilaspur, and enhancing facilities at the Rajiv Gandhi Multi-Purpose Stadium in Katasani, Shimla, he added. Indoor stadiums are coming up in Solan, and new sports centres are being developed in Reckong-Peo, Haroli, and Jaisinghpur. Synthetic tracks and field facilities in Hamirpur and Sujanpur are also underway to provide high-performance training environments," he said. Understanding the critical role of nutrition, the state has significantly increased diet allowances for sportspersons, he stated, adding that the primary-level players receive Rs 250 per day during state competitions, while others get Rs 400. "For out-of-state events, allowances go up to Rs 500. Hostel athletes receive Rs 250 per day within the state and Rs 400 outside. So far, Rs 76.98 lakh has been distributed to 421 athletes under this initiative. "To further ease participation, the government covers travel expenses for competitions. Athletes traveling up to 200 km are given AC 3-tier train fare, while longer journeys are supported with economy class air fare. A total of Rs 6.01 lakh has been disbursed to 235 athletes for travel support," he said. In a progressive move, student-athletes competing in state and national events are now marked 'present on special leave' instead of absent, ensuring their academic progress isn't hampered by sports participation, said the spokesperson. Acknowledging sporting achievements, the government has significantly raised rewards and Rs 14.77 crore has been distributed among 21 international medallists, and Rs 44 lakh awarded to other top performers, he informed. Through structured training, financial support, and inclusive policies, Himachal is nurturing talent at every level, he maintained, adding that Himachali athletes are making their presence felt on medal tallies nationwide, reinforcing the state's growing prominence in Indian sports. With a focused and inclusive approach, Himachal Pradesh is not just building facilities — it is building champions, redefining its identity as a progressive and dynamic centre of sporting excellence, claimed the spokesperson.
