Why the Cowboys hold training camp in Oxnard, California
There are certainly some major storylines as the Cowboys begin camp, including the status of star defensive end Micah Parsons, who is currently negotiating a new contract with the team but still arrived at training camp on Monday.
It should be an exciting few weeks as Dallas' camp gets underway in sunny *checks notes* southern California?
That's right. Every season since 2012 (with the exception of the COVID-19 season in 2020), the Cowboys have held their training camp in Oxnard, California. The team has held 18 camps overall in Oxnard since 2001 after previously holding camp in California from 1963-89.
So, why does Cowboys owner Jerry Jones opt to move his team across the country for camp? There are a few reasons.
The weather is the obvious one. Holding camp in California rather than Texas in July allows the Cowboys to practice outside and, therefore, have more fans in attendance. There are other reasons, as well, such as added revenue streams and appealing to Dallas' wide-reaching fan base. Dallas even manages to bring some star power into the building occasionally, as it did in 2022 when Jamie Foxx made an appearance at the team's facilities.
The tradition doesn't seem likely to go away any time soon, either. Earlier this month, the team agreed on a five-year deal to keep Dallas' training camp in Oxnard through 2030.
While holding your offseason training camp on the other side of the country isn't exactly typical in the NFL, it's a luxury you have when you are a brand as well-known as the Cowboys.

Packers open training camp with a new mindset: Urgency and accountability
With Green Bay Packers training camp officially starting on Wednesday, the team is preparing for the 2025 season with urgency and accountability at the forefront of everyone's mind. On the heels of a disappointing postseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, general manager Brian Gutekunst made it clear back in January that urgency must be a greater part of the culture moving forward. "I think, for me, the thing that's been on my mind as we've concluded this season is we need to continue to ramp up our sense of urgency," Gutekunst said. "These opportunities don't come (very often). The life of a player in the National Football League is not very long. We've got a bunch of good guys in that locker room, got a bunch of talented guys in that locker room, and yeah, I think it's time that we start competing for championships, right?" When you're affectionately referred to as Titletown, championships are the standard, and expectations are high for this version of the Packers. The roster is loaded with young talent on both sides of the ball, with several veterans ready to take charge. There's only been one practice, but one of those veterans is already noticing a difference. "The intensity is definitely here, it's definitely up," said running back Josh Jacobs. "We didn't like what we did last year, so we all feel that in this building. You can feel it—the guys on defense flying around from the d-line to the safeties, everybody. Guys on offense, we're pushing each other to finish." Jacobs certainly lived up to the standard with his play last season. In his first year in Green Bay, he rushed for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns, both top-five marks in franchise history and top-six in the league. But even when Jacobs is shouldering the load on offense, he embraces leadership just as seriously, even if it means being unapologetically direct. "One thing about being a leader, it's not always easy, and it's not always doing what's comfortable," he said. "Sometimes you got to ruffle feathers, sometimes you got to hold people accountable. That's something I try to do, I try to say the things that people are afraid to say." The Packers were too afraid to admit it, but last season clearly wasn't their year. They dropped two games to divisional opponents to close out the regular season before getting outmatched by the eventual Super Bowl champions. Falling short of expectations again didn't sit well with tight end Tucker Kraft, who spoke candidly on locker cleanout day. "As a team, we need to wake up," Kraft said. "Everyone talks about how we're not ok with just making the playoffs, but we have yet to walk the walk. Going forward, I'm going to embrace everything that I've put into this game and take on a little bit more of a leadership role—try to get people on the same wavelength that I'm on. I feel like I have a lot to offer in that aspect." If Kraft can take that next step in Year 3, it would be a welcome development. This team needs leaders who set the tone and speak the hard truths. Jacobs agrees that the Packers walking the walk and not just talking the talk will allow them to go from a good team to a great team. "I feel like the greatest teams are the most closest, but also the teams that hold each other the most accountable, so that's what we try to do," said Jacobs. "We're trying to set the standard high and I feel like to be able to do what we want to do, what we say we want to do, we've got to live what we sell."

Which team has the best chance to go from worst to first in NFL in 2025?
A team going from worst to first in the division is nearly an annual occurrence in the NFL. With last-place teams getting advantages like favorable schedules and higher draft picks, there have been 25 teams since the 2002 realignment that followed up a last-place finish with a division title the following year. While no team pulled off the trick last season, it had happened least once in each of the previous four seasons. Perhaps no team is better positioned to do it this season than the San Francisco 49ers , who followed up a Super Bowl loss in the 2023 season with a 6-10 last-place finish in 2024. The Niners were done in by a string of injuries to key players and now head into the 2025 season with the weakest projected schedule thanks in part to three games against fellow last-place teams Chicago, the New York Giants and Cleveland. Here's a look at the contenders based on their odds to finish first from BetMGM Sportsbook: San Francisco 49ers BetMGM odds to win division: +165. Reason for optimism: The 49ers still have star power with players like Fred Warner , George Kittle , Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams and one of the top offensive coaches in the game in Kyle Shanahan. With the last-place schedule and a rotation that includes eight games against the weaker South divisions, the Niners are favored to win the NFC West. Reason for pessimism: San Francisco let several defensive starters leave in the offseason as part of a movement to get cheaper and younger. But if their rookie class can't step in and contribute immediately, the defense could have some holes even with the return of coordinator Robert Saleh . New England Patriots BetMGM odds to win division: +475. Reason for optimism: QB Drake Maye showed flashes as a rookie and should get a boost in Year 2 with a better coaching staff led by Mike Vrabel and coordinator Josh McDaniels. Reason for pessimism: Maye still has very little support even after the offseason acquisitions of rookie lineman Will Campbell and veteran receiver Stefon Diggs. Chicago Bears BetMGM odds to win division: +550. Reason for optimism: The Bears brought in the most highly sought after coaching candidate when Ben Johnson was hired after a strong run as offensive coordinator in Detroit. They also upgraded the interior of the offensive line by acquiring Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman and Jonah Jackson in the offseason to help second-year QB Caleb Williams. Reason for pessimism: Chicago is in a division with three returning playoff teams and has one of the more difficult schedules in the NFL. If Williams' struggles as a rookie were more about holding onto the ball too long instead of the surrounding environment, the upgrades might not be enough. Tennessee Titans BetMGM odds to win division: +800. Reason for optimism: Last year's struggles delivered Tennessee the No. 1 overall pick. QB Cam Ward brings his playmaking ability to Tennessee and should be helped by an improved offensive line following the additions of Dan Moore and Kevin Zeitler and anticipated improvement from recent first-rounders JC Latham and Kevin Zeitler. Reason for pessimism: Ward doesn't have a strong group of pass catchers even after the signing of veteran Tyler Lockett and Tennessee hasn't done much to upgrade a defense that allowed 27.1 points per game last season. New Orleans Saints BetMGM odds to win division: +1,300. Reason for optimism: The offense could get a boost if first-round tackle Kelvin Banks can step in immediately and receivers Chris Olave and Rasheed Shaheed are healthy. Reason for pessimism: New Orleans has uncertainty at quarterback after Derek Carr's retirement and is counting on either second-round rookie Tyler Shough or 2024 fifth-rounder Spencer Rattler to perform at a high enough level to compete. Las Vegas Raiders BetMGM odds to win division: +1,500. Reason for optimism: Perhaps no team upgraded at quarterback and head coach as much as the Raiders with Pete Carroll replacing Antonio Pierce at coach and Geno Smith coming in at quarterback after a platoon of Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell. The offense under new coordinator Chip Kelly could be intriguing with record-setting second-year tight end Brock Bowers and rookie running back Ashton Jeanty. Reason for pessimism: Las Vegas is in a division that had three playoff teams last season, making it a difficult proposition to climb too high in the standings. There are major questions in the secondary that could prove fatal in a division with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Bo Nix. New York Giants BetMGM odds to win division: +2,800. Reason for optimism: The Giants should have one of the top defensive lines with No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter joining Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux. The return of left tackle Andrew Thomas after he missed 11 games last season should help boost the offense under new quarterback Russell Wilson . Reason for pessimism: While Wilson may be an upgrade at quarterback, his play has fallen significantly since leaving Seattle following the 2021 season. New York traded up to draft Jaxson Dart in the first round but he might not be ready to take over as a rookie on a team that still has many holes on offense. Cleveland Browns BetMGM odds to win division: +3,000. Reason for optimism: The Browns feature one of the game's top defensive players in four-time All-Pro Myles Garrett after he got a new contract last season and Kevin Stefanski has won AP Coach of the Year twice in five seasons with Cleveland. Reason for pessimism: Cleveland is still searching for a QB three years after trading for Deshaun Watson. Veteran Joe Flacco , Kenny Pickett and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are all in the mix but none provide immediate hope for success. ___ AP NFL:

When is Bill Belichick at ACC media days? Start time, TV channel for UNC news conference
There are a handful of storylines that are expected to define the ACC during the 2025 college football season. Behind quarterback Cade Klubnik and coach Dabo Swinney's belated willingness to bring in impactful transfers, will Clemson be able to repeat as conference champions? How will SMU follow up its stellar debut season in the league, which ended with a berth in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff? How will Florida State rebound from a disastrous 2-10 finish in 2024 — if it even can at all? Perhaps nobody in the league will have more eyeballs on it this year than a program that has won at least 10 games once since its coach's girlfriend was born. REQUIRED READING: Bill Belichick and North Carolina football show must deal with ACC Media Days circus When said program hires arguably the greatest coach in NFL history, though, the spotlight can intensify. North Carolina sent shockwaves through the college football world last December when it hired Bill Belichick, who helped turn what had been a hapless New England Patriots franchise into a six-time Super Bowl champion. For all of his accomplishments, the move comes with risks. Belichick has never coached in college. At 73, he'll begin the season as the oldest coach in college football. And these were just the concerns that were present before Jordon Hudson, Belichick's 24-year-old girlfriend, turned the cagey coach into a tabloid figure through her perpetual public-relations missteps. On July 24, Belichick will make one of his first major public appearances as the Tar Heels' coach when he speaks at ACC media days, about a month before North Carolina's season opener against TCU. Here's what you need to know to watch Belichick at ACC media days: REQUIRED READING: An absurd quest to find who can mimic Indiana's College Football Playoff run What time is Bill Belichick at ACC media days? Belichick is scheduled to take the dais at ACC media days in Charlotte at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 24. He'll be appearing four hours after Boston College coach Bill O'Brien, who was his former offensive coordinator with the Patriots. What channel are ACC media days on today? Belichick's news conference at ACC media days, as well as all coach and player news conferences at the event, will air on the ACC Network. Streaming options include the ESPN app, which requires a valid cable login to access; ESPN+, ESPN's subscription streaming service; and Fubo, which offers a free trial to potential subscribers. Watch ACC media days live with Fubo (free trial) Will Jordon Hudson be at ACC media days? It's unclear whether Belichick's girlfriend, who he described in his memoir as his 'creative muse,' will be joining him in Charlotte for ACC media days. Since Hudson clumsily attempted to interfere with Belichick's interview on CBS Sunday Morning interview in April, and after journalist Pablo Torre reported she had been banned from the North Carolina football facility, the university has publicly distanced itself from Hudson, noting that she's not an employee of the school but rather the manager of Belichick's 'personal brand' (though it added she is welcome at the football facility). At the very least, Belichick will be in Charlotte with four of his players — defensive backs Thaddeus Dixon and Will Hardy, quarterback Gio Lopez and wide receiver Jordan Shipp — all of whom will also be speaking with the assembled media.
