Doom The Dark Ages release time and when it arrives on Xbox Game Pass
Doom: The Dark Ages is almost here, and if you're desperate to get into the action, you can play it right this moment.
It's been too long since we ripped and tore. It's time to kick back into gear. Doom: The Dark Ages is almost here, and it's set to be a hotter-than-hell plunge into the past as we learn more about how Doomguy truly became the Doom Slayer, with a heap of dragons, mechs and flails in his medieval arsenal. The game has been a long time coming after the huge success of Doom Eternal and the groundbreaking arrival of 2016's start of the rebooted series, and so far, it's been proving itself with players.
There are a few things different here, though, with glory kills becoming a little sparse and a number of changes coming in via the game's new Shield mechanics. Our Doom: The Dark Ages review described the game as 'not so much a bold leap forward on all the aspects and features 2016's Doom perfected, but rather another sidestep – complete with its own mechanical quirks, benefits, and drawbacks,' indicating that your feelings about the new changes will vary on what it is you're trying to get out of a new Doom game, whether it be the bone-crunching action of its two predecessors, or a linear shooting experience like the classic games.
Regardless, the guesswork is taken out of the process for many, as it is set to come to Xbox Game Pass on day one and deliver a chance to play it at no extra cost on console and PC when the title officially launches. It's a great example of just how good day one releases on the service can be, especially as the rest of the rebooted Doom series makes a home on Xbox Game Pass too.

Tommy Fury offered big money by Jake Paul for rematch after Tyson Fury text
Paul has offered Tommy Fury $5million to try and get their rematch over the line after the 'Gypsy King' sent him a desperate text to try and make the fight YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has offered bitter rival Tommy Fury $5million (£4m) in a bid to make the rematch official. The pair initially squared off in 2023 after years of trading barbs. Despite dropping Fury in the final round of the contest, Paul ended up losing the bout on the judges' scorecards. Both men have been in an ongoing verbal tussle over a second meeting since their first encounter, but an agreement has not been reached yet. With talks over a potential rematch heating up, Tyson Fury – Tommy Fury's older brother – has even reached out to the 'Problem Child.' Speaking with Seconds Out, the 'Gypsy King' said: "I hoped they would. I've even texted Jake Paul to say 'what's going on do you want to get it on with Tommy and make the fight happen. I just think there's a lot of egos involved in boxing. It's a lot of 'he said this, she said that, I want this, I want that'. When things like that happen, it's difficult to make fights as you've seen over the years." In response to Fury's viral interview comments, Paul's business associate Nakisa Bidarian took to X – the formerly known as Twitter – making it public knowledge that Tyson had indeed messaged Jake. Bidarian confirmed: "I can confirm he did text Jake and say you and Tommy need the rematch. I can also confirm Jake responded that said he offered Tommy $5million and he's not getting that money from anyone else", reports All Out Fighting. Paul, 28, is hoping for a busy 2025 in the ring following his return to action last weekend. The 'Problem Child' squared off against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in his first bout since beating Mike Tyson last November. From start to finished, the young American dominated proceedings and eventually won the clash on points. Just moments after the win, Paul did not hesitate to challenge a wide range of fighters, including cruiserweight champions Gilberto Ramirez and Badou Jack, as well as Fury. But it was Nakisa Bidarian, Paul's business partner, who later elaborated on this ambitious lineup. "I want tougher fighters. I want to be world champion. Zurdo looked slow as s*** tonight. That'd be easy work, too," Paul confidently proclaimed. "Badou Jack. I want everybody. Anthony Joshua, Gervonta. And Tommy, stop running. I'm hustling, getting warmed up. You've already seen my face, get used to seeing it more." Pressed about when he'll step back into the ring, he declared: "As soon as possible. I'm staying active, I'm fighting everybody." Casting light on Paul's future plans, Bidarian pinpointed a rematch with Fury - aiming to avenge his previous 2023 loss to the British star. "If it's not for the title, then it's looking at Tommy, if he's reasonable, then Anthony Joshua. He's adamant he wants to make that fight happen at the end of 2026, and we're set to pow-wow with Matchroom when we're in New York for the most epic trilogy in boxing history - Amanda Serrano vs Katie Taylor 3."

Video game spending has dropped almost 25% amongst young people
Young adults are spending less and less across the board, but the games industry has been hit the hardest. Gaming has never been the cheapest of hobbies, but it has undeniably become more expensive in recent years, to the point that many have had to cut back their spending. Not only has the price of consoles gone up, with the Nintendo Switch 2's £395.99 price tag considered affordable by comparison, but so have the games. The ninth generation began with Sony insisting it had to start charging £70 for games and now we have Nintendo asking up to £75 for Mario Kart World. Regardless of where you stand on whether such price increases accurately reflect the value of the games, there's no doubt that they're a key factor in why spending on gaming as a whole is seeing a decline, especially amongst young adults. Matt Piscatella, executive director and industry analyst at Circana, has shared a chart on Bluesky collating data on the average weekly spending among adults aged 18 to 24 in the US, within the four weeks ending in April 2025. Aside from gaming, the data covers spending on things like houseware, accessories, and clothing. Compared to the same period of time in 2024, there have been sharp declines in spending among young adults in all areas, with gaming seeing the largest impact – a drop of nearly 25%. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. For what it's worth, video game spending among all other age groups hasn't declined as much, but it's still dropped by about 1 or 2%. This isn't universal among other industries though, with spending on sports equipment and beauty products up this year. Video game spend among 18 to 24's is down sharply."Young grads are having a much tougher time finding jobs. Student-loan payments are restarting for millions of borrowers… credit-card delinquency rates have risen to their highest points since before the pandemic…" — Mat Piscatella (@ 2025-07-01T14:25:35.367Z While this data is specifically for the US, spending habits between it and the UK aren't dissimilar, so it's safe to assume that more or less the same applies here. Even if it didn't, the US is a massive and important market for the games industry, so this should still be cause for concern amongst games companies. This all lines up with past data. Last year, chip company AMD (which both Sony and Microsoft are partnering with on their next consoles) admitted that demand for gaming had become 'quite weak.' Earlier this year, another Circana report revealed that more than 70% of active PlayStation 5 and Xbox players in the US were dedicating a significant amount of time to playing at least one of the 10 most popular live service games, such as Fortnite, Call Of Duty, and Roblox, rather than any new releases. More Trending A big part of this is because they're free-to-play, so there's less of a barrier to entry. As such, anyone who enjoys games but can't justify spending upwards of £80 on new releases is more likely to shift their attention to free-to-play fare. This in turn stands to further incentivise studios into making live service games, which earn their money through microtransactions; a strategy Sony has obsessively chased for years, with very little success beyond Helldivers 2 (which wasn't even made in-house). But even that isn't guaranteed to address the industry's woes, as evidenced by how many live service games have crashed and burned over the years. This is best exemplified by a March report that showed the vast majority of PC players are not only primarily playing live service games, but ones that were at least two years old. With the likes of Counter-Strike and League Of Legends still holding a fierce chokehold on the market, what chance do any new live service games have? Oasis fan fumes they can't watch band in Cardiff over broken station issue
One Oasis fan took to social media to fume over a lift issue at Cardiff Central as he heads to the Welsh capital to watch Noel and Liam Gallagher in their first reunion gigs One Oasis fan has been left fuming after a broken lift situation in Cardiff has caused chaos for disabled travellers. The band are back together for the first time in years, as Noel and Liam Gallagher put aside their differences after a 16 year-long feud. The band are performing in Cardiff tomorrow evening for their first live show for years, with fans desperate to get there early to secure the best spot and soak up the atmosphere. However, things haven't gone to plan for a number of fans using wheelchairs. One fan expressed their anger on social media: "Imagine not being able to go to watch @oasis at the @principalitysta in #Cardiff as @tfwrail have a lift out of order so wheelchair users cannot get off/on at the train at the capital city of #Wales - absolute shambles, what you think @liamgallagher @NoelGallagher." They then told Transport for Wales that they had "spoke to the passenger assistance who stated that the lifts at both Cwmbran and Cardiff Central are out of order so we couldn't use an electric wheelchair as couldn't get to/off the platforms". Transport for Wales then started that Cwmbran platform 1 (to Cardiff) was accessible via a ramped path from Edlogan Way and that at Cardiff Central the East End lift is "still available for passengers to use for platform 1 & 2". The fan then replied to explain he knew about the issues with Cwmbran but said he had been told "by passenger assistance that the lifts at Cardiff were unavailable". Oasis' Cardiff gigs has also caused chaos for wider transport across the city, with a number of road closures. As Cardiff city centre braces for the influx of music fans, significant road closures will be implemented around the capital. For the Oasis concerts, city centre roads will be shut from midday and are expected to reopen at the stroke of midnight. A Cardiff Council spokesperson said: "The M4 motorway is expected to be very busy for these concerts - so please plan ahead - and avoid the congestion in Cardiff by using the park and ride at the car park by the Vindico Arena on International Drive in the Sports Village. "For up-to-date traffic information on the motorway and trunk roads, go to the Traffic Wales website, or @TrafficWalesS on Twitter and Facebook." Concertgoers are being urged to arrive in Cardiff early. From 7am, Scott Road and Park Street will be shut due to preparations at gate five and to ensure the safety of queuing fans. A full city centre road closure will be in effect on July 4 and 5, commencing at 12noon and lasting until midnight. Access to certain areas of the civic centre will be regulated throughout the day, with entry permitted only for event parking, limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks. Roads impacted include King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.
