On a night where theatre meets storytelling, actor Sayed Ragab invites us on a journey through two intertwined paths—where comedy merges with contemplation, and narrative blends with inquiry. The evening begins with The Writer on Honeymoon, one of Ali Salem's most notable works, which, with its sharp wit, continues to reflect a reality we still experience today. Under the direction of Ahmed El-Attar, the play is re-imagined in a way that illuminates its different layers, revealing new dimensions within a familiar story. Ragab takes on the role of the writer, caught between doubt and certainty, while actress Yasmeen El-Hawary plays the wife who complicates the struggle, where every certainty becomes fragile, and every truth is relative.
But the night doesn't end when the curtain falls. After the performance, Ragab stays to tell a story. With his captivating presence and unique storytelling style, he revives the art of live narration—where words transform into vivid scenes, enchanting the audience and leaving a lasting impact (19 and 20 March, 9.30pm).

Reda Troupe's Musical Archive Revived for a New Generation

Renowned conductor Selim Sahab is leading a revival of Egypt's legendary Reda Troupe, re-recording its complete musical archive and training young performers to bring its folk legacy to new audiences. Jun 30, 2025 Egypt's iconic Reda Troupe is undergoing a full-scale musical revival, with its entire archive now being reorchestrated, re-recorded, and prepared for a new generation of stage performers. The project is helmed by conductor Selim Sahab, who is blending advanced recording technologies with updated arrangements and live orchestration to preserve the troupe's legacy while adapting it for contemporary audiences. As part of the initiative, young musicians and vocalists are being trained to carry forward the troupe's distinctive sound. The process includes redrafting scores, hosting workshops that merge traditional performance with academic rigour, and rebuilding the troupe's sonic identity for modern stages. Sahab confirmed that the revival also extends to the National Folk Art Troupe's musical repertoire. The initiative was unveiled at a public event at Cairo's Balloon Theatre, as part of the Ministry of Culture's wider strategy to safeguard intangible heritage and reinvigorate Egypt's national performing troupes. The evening featured performances of Reda Troupe classics such as 'Halawet Shamsena', 'Al-Ataba Gazaz', and 'El-Bint Beida', followed by spiritual songs from Mostafa Shawky and patriotic selections from Louay.

Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud visits children's cancer hospital

Local media shared a series of photos capturing the Aladdin star interacting with young patients. During the visit, Massoud spoke with children, their families, and hospital staff. He expressed his deep appreciation for the experience, emphasizing that supporting sick children is a human duty before it is a media responsibility. Massoud's official statement reads: 'My visit to Hospital 57357 was one of the most moving moments of my life. These children are true heroes, and just being among them gives me a different kind of energy. I'm proud that such a medical institution exists in my home country, Egypt, and I'm happy that I was able to be a part of their day.' Mena Massoud Born to Egyptian parents and raised in Canada, Massoud began his acting career in Canadian cinema and television. He appeared in Nikita (2011–2013), playing a member of Al-Qaeda, and had roles in Combat Hospital (2011) as well as the Canadian-American series Open Heart (2015). In 2014, he starred in the Canadian short comedy Americanistan, portraying a character named Mohammed Ali. He went on to take leading roles in Canadian films, including the short drama Final Exam (2017) and the drama-mystery Ordinary Days (2017). He was also cast in Strange but True. Massoud broke into Hollywood with a starring role in Aladdin, opposite Will Smith and Naomi Scott. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film was shortlisted for Best Original Song at the 92nd Academy Awards, though it was not ultimately nominated. Aladdin performed well at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, winning several categories, and also received the Favorite Family Movie award at the 2019 People's Choice Awards. The film is an adaptation of the popular tale Alaa El-Din and the Magic Lamp, one of the stories from the 18th-century collection Alf Laila wi Laila (Arabian Nights). Following Aladdin, Massoud appeared in a short video with Will Smith titled Friend Like Me, as well as in the TV series Reprisal. His more recent work includes roles in films such as Wish You Were Here, The Sacrifice Game, and The Royal Treatment, as well as TV series like Evolving Vegan and History of the World: Part II, among others. He recently completed filming In Broad Daylight, his first project shot in Egypt, in which he plays a young Egyptian caught up in an international mafia. In Broad Daylight is written by Karim Sorour and directed by Marcos Adel. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
