Pahalgam terror attack: NIA gets custody of two accused for 10 more days
'After the expiry of the earlier 10-day remand, Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar were produced before the Special NIA Court, which extended their remand to enable the NIA to carry out its investigation in the case,' the officials said.
The two were arrested on June 22 and were presented in a local court in Jammu the next day. The court initially granted the NIA five days' remand before the case was shifted to the special court.

According to the NIA, the accused disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack and confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated with the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The federal agency alleged that Parvaiz and Bashir had knowingly harboured the terrorists at a seasonal 'dhok' (hut) in Hill Park in Pahalgam before the April 22 attack that left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead and 16 others injured.
'The two provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists, who, on the fateful afternoon, selectively targeted and killed tourists based on their religious identity, making it one of the most gruesome terrorist attacks in recent memory,' the NIA said, as it continues its probe into the terror network behind the massacre in Kashmir's tourism hub.

Supreme Court declines to interfere in Telangana HC order granting bail to 4 men accused of supplying explosives to Maoists
The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by the Telangana Government challenging a Telangana High Court order that granted bail to four men accused of conspiring and supplying explosives and material such as drones to members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). The case was heard by a bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, who declined to interfere in the high court's order. The case was registered in the Cherla police station of Bhadradri Kothagudem district and later transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The trial court dismissed their bail petitions on November 7, 2023, and January 18, 2024. The four bail applicants are accused 1, 3, 6, and 7 in the case. In the trial court, the special public prosecutor for the NIA had contended that the offences, charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other laws, were grave and serious in nature, and since some of the accused in this case were absconding, it was not safe to grant bail. The police caught them on June 5, 2023, on the outskirts of Cherla Mandal during a vehicle check drive. They were found in possession of 'incriminating material objects, such as one drone, cortex wire bundles – 2 each 80 meters length, gelatin sticks – 10, detonators – 5. The accused 1 to 7 conspired to hand over the same to the underground cadres of proscribed organization of CPI (Maoist) i.e., accused 8 to 11 and others, for making landmine and IED firearms', the police alleged. However, while hearing the batch of petitions challenging the rejection of bail applications by the trial court, a Telangana High Court bench of Justices K Lakshman and P Sree Sudha granted them bail with certain conditions, including some general ones, bail bonds, and weekly reporting. The high court, in its order dated March 21, 2024, acknowledged the NIA's primary concern that the accused might threaten witnesses, including protected ones, and potentially disrupt the fairness of the trial. Should this occur, the special court might be unable to conduct a fair trial. In such a scenario, the NIA is free to apply for the cancellation of bail, the bench said. Jailed J&K MP Allowed To Attend Parliament Between July 24 And August 4
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday granted to jailed Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid custody parole between July 24 and August 4 to attend the monsoon session of Parliament. Rashid has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2019 after he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the 2017 terror funding case. Additional sessions judge Chander Jit Singh granted the custody parole. A detailed order is awaited. The Baramulla MP sought either interim bail or custody parole to carry out his duty as a parliamentarian. Custody parole entails a prisoner being escorted by armed police personnel to the plea. Rashid's counsel had earlier submitted his client should be allowed to attend the parliamentary session by granting interim bail. In the alternative, Rashid could be allowed custody parole, without payment of travel costs, the advocate added. The NIA opposed the plea, saying interim bail should not be granted and custody parole could be allowed only after payment of travel expenses. The Baramulla MP, who defeated Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, is facing trial in a terror funding case with allegations that he funded separatists and terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the NIA's FIR, Rashid's name cropped up during the interrogation of businessman and co-accused Zahoor Watali. After being chargesheeted in October 2019, a special NIA court framed charges against Rashid and others in March 2022 under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war against the government), and 124A (sedition) of IPC and for offences relating to terrorist acts and terror funding under UAPA.

NIA chargesheets key accused in Chittorgarh explosives-recovery case
New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Firoz Khan, a key accused who was arrested in April after absconding for three years in a Chittorgarh explosives-recovery case, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday. The accused has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Explosive Substances Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the supplementary chargesheet filed before a special NIA court in Jaipur on Monday, the statement said. The court had earlier declared Firoz Khan a proclaimed offender and also issued a standing warrant of arrest against him, the NIA statement said. NIA investigations have shown that Firoz Khan had conspired with several co-accused in the case, related to the recovery of explosives and components used in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in March 2022. He had attended conspiracy meetings and, on the direction of co-accused Imran Khan, had bought chemical substances for the fabrication of IEDs, the probe agency said. The NIA had, in September 2022, filed a chargesheet against 11 accused in the case that was registered in April of that year. Another supplementary chargesheet was also filed in November 2023.
