Former Clemson star wide receiver Justyn Ross waived by the Kansas City Chiefs
Former Clemson standout Justyn Ross is officially moving on from Kansas City. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs waived Ross on Wednesday after the wide receiver requested his release.
Ross had been on a reserve/future deal and was hoping for a fresh start elsewhere after spending parts of the last three seasons with the organization. He was promoted from the practice squad ahead of this year's AFC Championship Game but saw limited action overall, appearing in just two games during the 2024 season without a catch.
Across two years of active playing time, Ross recorded six receptions for 53 yards and made one start over 12 total appearances. His NFL journey began in 2022, but a preseason foot surgery led to a stint on injured reserve during his rookie season.
Ross was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school and made an immediate splash at Clemson. Despite missing the 2020 season due to a serious neck/spine injury, he finished his collegiate career with 158 catches for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns in 39 games. His impact still ranks among the program's best: tied for fifth all-time in receiving touchdowns, 10th in receiving yards, and 11th in total receptions.
Now healthy and looking to reset his professional career, Ross will search for a new NFL home.

Johnson had eight tackles in the 2017 AFC Wild Card Game and sacked quarterback Marcus Mariota in an electrifying manner that could have resulted in a turnover. The Chiefs' 22–21 loss to the Tennessee Titans also served as Johnson's last with the team after 13 seasons. "When you're at home and in the playoffs, up 21-3, you book it. I don't care if it's the end of the second or third quarter. I don't care what it is. You figured out how to win the game; unfortunately, we didn't. Some things happened in that game, where, if they go our way, we probably win," said Johnson, "I'm always reminded by Chiefs fans when I see them play. 'Man, that Mariota hit.' That Titans game in 2017 was tough. It was obviously a bad call. They look at it now and, like, there's no way you call that. I think they called it forward progress. I mean, it was a hit-and-out. I had a really good game, my last game as a Chief, and, man, I got some really good championship moments. Never won the big one at the Chiefs, but was there for 13 years. So I learned a lot and was blessed a lot." The Gold Glove catcher leads the majors with 32 homers this season. But in Monday's matchup against the Kansas City Royals, Randy Arozarena grabbed the spotlight. The All-Star outfielder left the yard in the fourth inning, hitting his 100th career home run, per MLB. Arozarena jumped on the first pitch of the at-bat, blasting a Michael Wacha cutter 395 feet to right center. It was his ninth homer of the season and the 100th of his seven-year career. But Arozarena wasn't done yet. He added to his impressive career total the following inning, crushing a 94 mph four-seamer 401 feet to center. Raleigh joined elite company with his power surge in the first half of the season. He leads the majors in home runs and RBI while adding Gold Glove-caliber defense behind the plate. However, Seattle's pitching has been a disappointment this year. While the rotation was the team's biggest strength in 2024, several key starters have dealt with injuries this season. The Mariners did get a strong outing from George Kirby on Monday. He allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts over six innings of work. The fourth-year veteran was an All-Star and Cy Young candidate in his breakout 2023 campaign and turned in another strong performance last year. But Kirby began the 2025 season on the injured list with shoulder inflammation and didn't make his debut until May 22. The Mariners have gone 10-6 over the last 16 games heading into the series opener against the Royals.
