OpenTable has put together a list of its top 100 restaurants for outdoor dining in Canada and nine local businesses have made the cut.
The online reservation service said the rankings were based on dining data, consumer reviews and other unspecified factors.
While big cities like Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and Vancouver were well represented on the list, southern Ontario had some standouts.

Pet-friendly dining is also top of mind for those dining outside, with OpenTable data revealing a 25 per cent uptick year-over-year in reservations at 'pet-friendly' restaurants. Fifty-six per cent of dog owners have reported dining out with their pet at a restaurant/café at least once a month in the summer, while 36 per cent indicated they would 'definitely' dine out more often with their pet if dog-friendly options were easier to locate. 'We are seeing a demand for pet-friendly patios in real time, as dining is growing 11 per cent higher year-over-year at pet friendly restaurants than those that don't allow pets,' said Matt Davis, OpenTable Canada's senior country director, in a news release. Epcor offers up to $10K in rebates through rainwater pilot program

Epcor is offering up to $10,000 in rebates to eligible projects that help slow the direct flow of rainwater into storm drains. (Dave Mitchell/CTV News Edmonton) Edmontonians could receive up to $10,000 in rebates from Epcor through a pilot program that encourages property owners to slow rainwater from flooding storm drains. The RainWise program was launched in April and it will run for three years. Single-family, multi-family and commercial properties in Edmonton are eligible for a rebate if they build a project that meets certain eligibility requirements and slows the direct drainage of storm water. Epcor RainWise rebate program The Epcor RainWise program provides up to $10,000 in rebates to eligible projects that help prevent a demand on city storm systems. (Dave Mitchell/CTV News Edmonton) Projects listed on the Epcor website include: Downspout disconnections; rain barrels and storage tanks; rain gardens and box planters; soakaway pits; permeable pavement; and absorbent landscaping. 'If we can slow it down, it helps prevent flooding in local areas, then ultimately for the greater city of Edmonton area,' Dale DeBock with Epcor told CTV News Edmonton on Friday. He said up to $2,000 rebate may be approved for a multi-family project, and up to $10,000 rebate for larger commercial projects. 'We've put our money where our mouth is and we want to help the community do these projects, and we are encouraging these projects to happen,' he said, adding that Epcor has invested $300,000 for the length of the pilot. Epcor is offering rebates for eligible property projects that slow rainwater Homeowners can receive rebates for eligible projects through an Epcor pilot program that aims to slow rainwater from entering storm drains. (Dave Mitchell/CTV News Edmonton) DeBock said to avoid flooding, Epcor has had to do 'expensive upgrades to storm systems' and build big pipes to 'handle' all the rainwater. He said the program incentivizes people to take initiative and explore different things they can do in their backyards, and to help avoid these added costs. 'This is an opportunity to invest in the community and people's personal part of the city that would reduce the cost … or even eliminate the need for an upgrade altogether.' Applications can be made online. Projects that meet the eligibility requirements will receive a reply with approval. Receipts are then submitted when work is completed and homeowners will receive the rebate. At the time of the interview, DeBock said more than 220 applications have been made since the start of the program. With files from CTV News Edmonton's Nahreman Issa and Dave Mitchell

'Extremely serious' landfill fire closes dump in Prince Rupert through long weekend

A landfill fire in Prince Rupert has closed the municipal dump through the long weekend, with the earliest possible reopening coming on Tuesday, the city says. In a statement posted online, the northwest B.C. city says the fire was discovered Friday morning and was followed by an immediate closure. "Under advisement of our landfill consultant, the City landfill will remain closed over the weekend with the intention to reopen on Tuesday morning, pending confirmation that it is safe to do so," the statement says. "Landfill fires are extremely serious and require particular fire response and management, requiring automatic closures when they are detected. The City has reported the incident to environmental authorities and will follow any guidance provided." No air quality advisories have been issued in relation to the fire.

Hot weather pushes Quebec produce to early harvest

Quebec farmers say hot weather has ripened crops early, making for an abundant — and slightly sweeter — harvest season. Quebec farmers are saying the hot weather in recent days means their produce is sweeter. It also means some crops have ripened faster and are ready to be harvested already. Tomato season came early this year in Rougemont. At Potager Mont-Rouge Halte Gourmand, farmer Philippe Beauregard is harvesting his Italian tomatoes two weeks ahead of schedule. Biting into one, Beauregard says, 'Look at that, it's red till the very flesh of the tomato. So that's ready!' He added: 'Usually we have this around mid-August. And now we're early August, and everything is ready to be picked.' Patrice Leger Bourgoin of the Quebec Vegetable Growers Association says this year's heat is helping crops. 'The sweet corn is sweet, so it's perfect,' he said. 'It's a good season so far, so our growers are happy even though in a certain area it's a little bit tougher because we have some episodes of heavy rains.' Storms like the on July 13 can set back a whole harvest, says Beauregard. 'The worst thing is when we have, you know, such a big rainstorm. We can see the damage only a few weeks after the rainstorm. An excess of water in that really short period of time.' There hasn't been much rain since then, which is also worrisome to growers, says Bourgoin. 'It's going to be a problem at the beginning of next week if we don't receive a little bit of rain.' Farmers are taking advantage of the early crops to get as much of their produce to customers, and those customers will be spoiled for choice. 'The pressure is there to provide volume for their retail or the public market and the farmers market,' Leger said. Beauregard adds: 'There is no reason not to buy Quebec produce in the next few weeks for sure.'
