Smash-and-grab burglars ram stolen car into high-end shop in L.A., police say
Officers sent to the 400 block of North Fairfax Avenue around 5 a.m. Friday found that a blue Toyota Camry had rammed into Solestage, a shop known for streetwear, accessories and sneakers.
LAPD Officer Drake Madison said the vehicle had been reported stolen. It is unclear what items were taken from the store.
Solestage did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
Authorities say the suspects ran away, but had no other information about them as of Friday afternoon.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD's Wilshire Division at (213) 473-0476. During non-business hours, or on weekends, calls should be directed to (877) 527-3247. Tips can also be made anonymously via lacrimestoppers.org or (800) 222-8477.
Solestage sells brands such as Supreme and Louis Vuitton — with a wallet collaboration costing about $3,500 — and claims to house the 'rarest' collection of clothing and foot apparel.
The store was among those targeted by thieves in June 2020 after weeks of civil unrest across L.A. While such smash-and-grab crimes drew widespread attention online, a Times analysis found they made up only a fraction of the city's burglaries in 2020.

USC parking garage reopens after ‘suspicious item' prompts closure
USC briefly closed part of campus on Friday after 'hazardous materials' were discovered, with some media reports indicating the dangerous item was a military grenade. The item, however, was later deemed to be 'inert,' school officials said. The school confirmed shortly after 1 p.m. Friday that 'out of an abundance of caution, access to the Downey Way Parking Structure at UPC will be temporarily restricted while LAPD evaluates hazardous materials discovered in a garage storage area.' The Los Angeles Police Department said they responded to the 3600 block of McClintock Avenue at about 12:35 'for a suspicious item.' That address corresponds to the parking garage. Media reports indicate the item found was a grenade, though school and police officials have not yet confirmed that. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the school posted to social media that access to the parking structure 'has been fully restored.' 'LAPD determined suspected hazardous materials were inert,' the school added. In another grenade-related incident, three Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies were killed by a grenade they thought was inert last month. Luis Zuniga contributed to this report. Police identify alleged gunman who shot driver that crashed into crowd in East Hollywood
Los Angeles police have identified the alleged gunman who opened fire on a driver moments after he crashed into a crowd of people outside of a club in East Hollywood in July. Efrain Villalobos, 28, of Lawndale, is being sought by police in connection with the shooting that happened on July 19 at around 2 a.m. outside of the Vermont Hollywood club in the 4600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard near Vermont Avenue. Investigators say that Villalobos fired at least one shot at the driver, 29-year-old Orange County man Fernando Ramirez, who drove his vehicle into a crowd and left more than three dozen people injured. Ramirez was struck in the buttocks by gunfire after he was pulled from the car and attacked by some members of the crowd. He required hospitalization following the incident, for which he faces charged with 74 criminal charges. Though Ramirez was promptly arrested, police have been searching for Villalobos since that morning. He is described as standing about 5-foot-10 and weighing approximately 160 pounds. He has some distinctive features, police said, like gauged ear piercings and tattoos. They shared photos, showing a tattoo that reads "VILLALOBOS" on his left forearm, and another on his inner forearm that reads "Respect is earned, not given." On his right inner forearm is a tattoo that reads "Miabella." "Villalobos is facing serious felony charges in connection with the shooting of the driver and should be considered armed and dangerous," LAPD's news release said. Anyone who knows of his whereabouts or who may know more is asked to call 911.
