Ahly striker Wessam Abou Ali apologizes for misconduct amid MLS transfer talks - Egyptian Football

Palestinian forward Wessam Abou Ali apologized publicly on Monday to Ahly fans, teammates, and club officials for his misconduct as the Egyptian giants near finalizing his transfer to MLS side Columbus Crew.
Abou Ali, 26, expressed remorse for his recent conduct after pushing for a move away from the Cairo-based club, citing personal pressures and emotional toll.

"I apologize to Ahly fans, President Mahmoud El-Khatib, and everyone at the club," Abou Ali said in a statement on the club's website.
"Things escalated too quickly, and I lost control. I bear full responsibility," he added.
The striker's apology follows mounting tensions surrounding his future. After a standout performance at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he scored a hat-trick in a dramatic 4-4 draw with FC Porto, Abou Ali made it clear he wanted to leave, urging the club to accept a transfer offer.
Linked with Gulf sides Al-Rayyan and Al-Wasl, as well as MLS outfits New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew, Abou Ali's situation turned contentious when he missed pre-season training, citing injury. He was subsequently fined by the club and excluded from Ahly's training camp squad in Tunisia.
The Palestinian Football Association intervened last week, issuing a statement urging Ahly to respect the player's wishes and facilitate a move abroad, only to retract it a few hours later by removing the statement from their official channels.
Despite initially valuing the player at $10 million and declaring him not for sale, Ahly is now reportedly prepared to accept Columbus Crew's $7.5 million bid, plus $1.5 million in performance-based add-ons and a 15 percent resale clause.
Abou Ali joined Ahly from Sweden's IK Sirius in January 2024 and made an immediate impact, scoring 18 goals in 19 matches to win the Egyptian Premier League Golden Boot in his debut half-season. Although injuries disrupted his follow-up campaign, he still finished with 10 goals in 16 league appearances, second only to teammate Emam Ashour.
The striker's contract with Ahly runs until 2029, but both parties now appear ready to part ways.
"Whether the deal goes through or not, I am grateful to Ahly. This club made me a star, gave me a platform, and took me to the Club World Cup," Abou Ali said.
A formal agreement with Columbus Crew is expected in the coming days.

Messi, Alba risk ban after MLS All-Star game withdrawal - World

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami team-mate Jordi Alba could face a suspension after withdrawing from Major League Soccer's All-Star game, multiple US media reports said on Wednesday. Argentina superstar Messi and Alba had been due to start for a combined MLS team which will face a squad representing Mexico's Liga-MX in Austin on Wednesday. However, US media reported on Wednesday both Messi and Alba had pulled out of the squad. No reason for the withdrawal was given and it could mean Messi and Alba are given a one-game ban unless they have a valid reason for withdrawal, such as an injury. The duo's participation in the exhibition game had been under a cloud after Miami coach Javier Mascherano indicated at the weekend he wanted Messi and Alba to rest. "The players are called up. I'd prefer they rest, but it's not my decision," Mascherano said. "I know how important the All-Star Game is, and as far as I know, there's no decision from the club - everything continues as normal." Both Messi, 38, and Alba, 36, have a history of recent injury problems while Inter Miami has faced a gruelling schedule which included participation in the recent FIFA Club World Cup. MLS did not immediately respond to a request for comment. (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at @AO_Sports and on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports.) Atletico Madrid to sign David Hancko after Al-Nassr reportedly back out - World

Atletico Madrid has reached a deal to sign David Hancko after the defender reportedly was turned away by Al-Nassr when he arrived at the Saudi team's training camp. Atletico said Wednesday it has an agreement with Dutch club Feyenoord for the transfer of the Slovak player. The deal was pending a medical, and financial details were not disclosed. Spanish and Dutch media said Feyenoord had originally reached an agreement with Al-Nassr for Hancko's transfer, but the Saudi team — where Cristiano Ronaldo plays — reportedly backed away at the last minute. The defender had already arrived in Austria, where Al-Nassr was training, but was told there by Al-Nassr that the deal fell apart. Atletico, the third-place finisher in the Spanish league last season, has been boosting its squad in recent weeks. It signed 22-year-old right back Marc Pubill from Almeria, 24-year-old Argentina international Thiago Almada from Brazilian club Botafogo, midfielder Álex Baena from Villarreal and 22-year-old Italian left back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta. Arsenal off to winning pre-season start in Singapore - World

Arsenal kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 1–0 win over Italian giants AC Milan at the National Stadium in Singapore on Wednesday. Manager Mikel Arteta started the match with several regulars, including Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Ben White. Christian Norgaard, a new signing from Brentford, made his first appearance for the Gunners, while fellow arrivals Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi started on the bench. In front of more than 22,800 fans, Arsenal, who finished runner-up in the last three consecutive seasons in the English Premier League, looked the more lively of the two sides in the first half, dominating possession but failing to convert their chances. Arteta then made six changes at the break, with Arrizabalaga and Zubimendi introduced to the Arsenal faithful. Their breakthrough came just seven minutes into the restart, as England international Bukayo Saka latched onto a cross from defender Jakub Kiwior and slotted the ball home into the far corner. Saka, later named Man of the Match, made way for 15-year-old Max Dowman -- a product of the club academy -- who impressed with his confidence and flair. Arsenal continued to press for a second goal, but Milan's substitute goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani denied Mikel Merino's header with a full-stretch save in the 75th minute. He was called into action again seven minutes later, tipping Leandro Trossard's close-range effort over the bar to keep the scoreline in Arsenal's favour. "I'm very happy with the attitude and the domination we had shown throughout the game. But there are always things to improve," Arteta said at the post-match press conference. "I have to find that cohesion within the players, and they have to continue to step up to the next level. But we are heading in a good direction." The Londoners next take on fellow Premier League side Newcastle on Sunday.
