Cremonese promoted to Serie A with playoff win over Spezia
After the first game ended goalless on Thursday, the second match turned into a thriller as a double from Manuel De Luca and a goal from Michele Collocolo gave Cremonese a three-goal lead.
Spezia rallied with two late goals but could not overcome the deficit and will remain in Serie B for the next season.
The Lombardy club Cremonese, relegated in 2023, will now join Pisa and Sassuolo in returning to Italian top flight, taking the places of Empoli, Venezia and Monza, who were relegated at the end of the season.
"This season will be remembered for all we achieved: with sheer determination and plenty of drive, we secured promotion," Cremonese manager Giovanni Stroppa told DAZN.

Celtic were soundly defeated by Ajax 5-1 as Brendan Rodgers' side unravelled in their first match in the Como Cup. The Dutch side were ruthless against the Scottish champions, who turned on the style in the second half after going in level at the break. Yang Hjun-jun netted the only goal for Celtic midway through the first half and they will now take on Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli on Sunday in the third/fourth place match. The competition has been given the hashtag 'football on the lake' and amid beautiful scenery, the match against Ajax turned ugly for Celtic as they struggled to keep their heads above water during a one-sided second half. Celtic shipped five goals to Ajax on the banks of Lake Como. | Getty Images Ajax - who defeated Hibs 6-3 in a friendly earlier this month - took the lead through Steven Berghuis on 16 minutes, although Yang, who has been linked with a move away from the club recently, levelled matters five minutes later, firing home after being set up by Reo Hatate. Important centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers was introduced at the break for his first appearance of the pre-season after recovering from injury - and it was a baptism of fire for the American and his teammates. Davy Klaasen put Ajax back in front on 47 minutes and Berghuis made it 3-1 just before the hour mark. Both teams made a flurry of substitutions but the Dutch side netted two more goals via Aaron Bouwman on 71 minutes and Rayane Bounida on 83 minutes. Napoli ready to hand Raheem Sterling transfer lifeline with Chelsea locked in talks over two MORE arrivals
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RAHEEM Sterling could be offered a Chelsea escape route by Napoli. But the Italian champions, who already have former Premier League stars Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour on their books, want a loan deal for Sterling on similar terms to Arsenal last season. Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in Sterling, 30, who has two years left on his £325,000-per-week contract with the Blues. Chelsea paid a significant proportion of the ex Manchester City winger's wages after he joined Arsenal in a last-minute deal last summer. There may have to be compromise on all sides if Sterling is to relaunch his career away from Stamford Bridge again this year.. Napoli have turned their attention to Sterling after being frustrated in their efforts to sign winger Dan Ndoye from Bologna. Ndoye is also a target for Nottingham Forest and Napoli are losing patience with their Serie A rivals. Chelsea are said to be moving closer to a deal for RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons. The Blues are yet to make a formal bid and Leipzig are said to be sticking to their £60m valuation of the Dutch international. But there is increasing confidence at Chelsea that a compromise will be reached and Simons will be added to the club's formidable array of attacking talent.
