Vadodara bridge collapse: Gujarat govt disburses Rs 62 lakh assistance to victims
Gujarat Chief Minister had announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured, while ordering a high-level inquiry into the Mujpur-Gambhira bridge collapse last week, resulting in the death of over a dozen people.
As per a government statement, Rs 62 lakh financial assistance was distributed to the families of victims till Sunday.
Chhotaudepur MP Jashubhai Rathwa and Padra MLA Chaitanya Singh Jhala distributed the cheques of financial assistance on Sunday. While meeting the affected families, the elected representatives also shared their grief over the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The administrative officials were also present on the occasion to assist in cheque distribution to the kin of those devastated by the sudden bridge collapse.
As per the details, cheques worth a total of Rs 62 lakh have been distributed till Sunday, which includes the families of four injured and 15 deceased.
The incident occurred on July 9 at around 7:30 a.m. when the Gambhira bridge, spanning the Mahisagar River near Mujpur village. A portion of the bridge suddenly collapsed and fell into the Mahisagar River below.
The bridge served as a crucial link between the Vadodara and Anand districts, connecting Central Gujarat to the Saurashtra region.
Expressing sorrow over the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced Rs 2 lakh as ex gratia for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured, from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

'Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, during his Dubai visit, held a meeting with Mr. Vinay Thadani, CEO and Director of Grew Energy Private Limited, and the delegation regarding proposed investments in Madhya Pradesh,' the MP Chief Minister's Office stated in a post on X. 'The meeting focused on the special industrial assistance provided by the state government for the 3.0 gigawatt solar cell project to be established in Narmadapuram district. It is noteworthy that this project will create over 700 employment opportunities and will prove to be a significant initiative in establishing Madhya Pradesh as a leading state in the sustainable energy sector,' it added. As per Thadani, his company had already committed Rs 3,000 crore to Madhya Pradesh, with commercial operations slated to begin in March 2026 and further expressed optimism about further expansion that is expected to go up to Rs 10,000 crores. 'The meeting with the CM was very energetic. We have already invested in Madhya Pradesh, worth approximately Rs 3000 crore, and are currently discussing the commercial date, scheduled for March. Our group chairmen also met with the CM and we discussed our further expansion plans, which will go up to Rs 10,000 crores in the upcoming years, in which investment in the renewable sector, investment in textiles plus flexible packaging, and investment in all sectors where our users are already present,' Thadani stated. He praised Madhya Pradesh's administrative support and central location, saying, 'Madhya Pradesh has been very cooperative in all forms, whether it is administrative or vision-wise... and secondly, geographically, it is located in the centre of the country, which helps all industry.' Yadav's official visit to Dubai in the UAE and to Spain is scheduled from July 13 to July 19. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah distributes 500th crore ticket under Shakti scheme
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 14 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah handed over the symbolic 500th crore ticket to a woman here on Monday under the Shakti scheme, the State's free bus travel initiative for women. Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar distributed tickets to women passengers on the bus near Windsor Manor Bridge in Bengaluru. On this occasion, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, and several other dignitaries were present. Five guarantee schemes were announced during the 2023 Assembly election. The Shakti Yojana was launched on June 11 as per the decision taken in the Cabinet to implement it immediately after the government came into existence on May 20, 2023. The Chief Minister explained that since then, women in the state have been provided free travel facilities in government buses. Speaking to the reporters, Siddaramaiah also said that he, his cabinet colleagues, and Congress MLAs will not participate in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Kalasavalli-Ambargondlu Bridge, which is scheduled to take place later today. He said that it was a mark of protest as his request to postpone the event at Sagar taluk in Shivamogga district was not accepted by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. 'I had called Nitin Gadkari and asked him to postpone the program. He said he would postpone it. But now, bowing to the pressure from local BJP leaders, they are going ahead with the event,' Siddaramaiah told reporters. 'But here, protocol has been violated. As a mark of protest, none of us is participating in the program. Congress MLAs from the region, the District Minister, and the Minister for Public Works are all staying away. They are deliberately creating a rift between the central and state governments,' he added. Meanwhile, Congress MP Surdeep Singh Surjewala accused the Centre of insulting the Chief Minister and the people of the State. 'Insulting the people of Karnataka and Kanadigas has become a habit of the BJP. This is not just an insult to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, but to the seven crore people of Karnataka,' Surjewala told ANI. 'BJP thinks of Karnataka as just a money-making machine. Dubai [UAE], July 14 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on the second day of his visit to Dubai, held one-to-one interaction with investors and discussed the immense potential of investment opportunities in various sectors in the state. Yadav's official visit to Dubai in the UAE and to Spain is scheduled from July 13 to July 19. The aim of his visit is to bring global investment to Madhya Pradesh, encourage technology sharing, and create new job opportunities under the umbrella of 'Global Dialogue 2025'. Speaking to ANI, CM Mohan Yadav said, 'Since this morning, we have been meeting with different people. First, we met the people from the embassy and had a discussion with them about how the Indian govt and the MP govt can do business with foreign nations in a simpler manner and what are the possible areas. We have mining and have various types of industry set ups. There is a huge potential for a food park, we have discussed it too. We allocated time for every business-related task; we also had several one-on-one discussions and interacted with many good investors.' He further emphasised the air services potential in Madhya Pradesh, highlighting to increase the flights for state government's initiative of Air Ambulance facility. 'We are also doing work on aviation in our state, and they (investors) are ready to support it with the guidance of the Indian government. I was in India for seven years, and it was an eye-opener to see the kind of investments and vision the CM has for the state.
