Nothing held back: Lorien Testard's music for Clair Obscur

On this episode of the Game Show, Meena Shamaly explores the massive game score of the 2025 smash hit, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, in addition to an extended conversation with the composer Lorien Testard, beyond the broadcast, that explores the stories behind the music, the collaborations that bring it to life, and how he created the soundtrack of his dreams
When finally presented with the opportunity to write his first ever game score, composer Lorien Testard grabbed on with both hands to take players on the ride of their lives.
Across a soundtrack album of more than eight hours, Testard put his heart and soul into every inch of this score, with themes and compositions that explore every possible emotional element of this story. His numerous melodies accompany the titular expedition, as they travel from their French-inspired city of Lumière to try and stop a creature known as The Paintress from enacting her annual erasure of souls, known as the Gommage.
The first part of the title, Clair Obscur , takes its name from chiaroscuro - the contrast of light and darkness in visual art, especially painting. This concept is at the heart of the game's story, characterisation, and visual style, driving every composition by Testard. As dark, heavy, and heartbreaking as some moments can be (the "obscur"), there is always lightness and levity to be found (the "clair").
Joining the composer on this score is vocalist and co-composer Alice Duport-Percier, who becomes a central voice to the score as she brings the lyrics of this world to life. Testard also features the Orchestre Curieux (the Curious Orchestra), a chamber ensemble led by Daniel Sicard, as well as several guest musicians to expand the score's sonic palette. Actor Ben Starr also makes his tender singing debut in this story, and vocalists Victor Borba and Axelle Verner bringing the heat to some of its biggest confrontations.
With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 , Lorien Testard has cemented himself as a talent impossible to ignore.

Inside Jodhi Meares' new $4.1m Byron Bay hinterland home

Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Jodhi Meares has opened up about the real reason she left Sydney for Byron Bay, and the private life she has created for herself in the hinterland. In a new interview with Stellar, the fashion mogul and ex-wife of James Packer admits she was never comfortable in the spotlight and is 'definitely a behind the scenes person'. 'I'm a true introvert. I like to be able to watch people. I find people really interesting. 'Being in the public eye wrecked that a little bit,' Meares told Stellar. Late last year, Meares purchased a four-bedroom, Modernist-inspired home – which features an avocado, citrus, banana and papaw orchard, at Brooklet. The property is located inland between Ballina and Byron Bay in the NSW Northern Rivers region – and was purchased for a reported $4.1 million. Jodhi Meares is on the cover of today's Stellar. I need to just go somewhere and speak to another human …'' The former Australia's Next Top Model host and Tigerlily founder also made a surprising confession about her time as a model, saying she 'never really loved having my photos taken'. 'It's been a means to an end. But I felt very lucky to be able to do it because I wasn't sure what I was going to do when I was young. 'And school and I didn't get along that well.' Delta Goodrem reveals new wedding details from Malta ceremony and shows her fifth all-white outfit

Australian singer Delta Goodrem has given fans an exclusive look behind the scenes of her June wedding. On Thursday, Goodrem shared a carousel of photos from the intimate rehearsal dinner, revealing new details about her look. The 40-year-old popstar married her longtime partner, musician Matthew Copley, in a lavish ceremony in Malta. Earlier this month, Goodrem shared photos from the moment the couple said 'I do' at 12th century's St Paul's Cathedral in Mdina. The new shots captured the loved-up couple at their rehearsal dinner. In the Instagram post, Goodrem praised the team of people who helped create the look for the private family event. The white dress, with a V-neck lace-back, was designed by Sydney-based fashion designer, Amanda Tasevski. 'Thank you for all your hard work and love!!,' Goodrem wrote. The rehearsal gown is the fifth all-white dress the singer wore to celebrate her 'magical' wedding. Her wedding day outfit was an off-the-shoulder, French tulle gown by fashion house Paolo Sebastian, which took months to create. It featured a 2.5m-long train and matching cathedral-length veil. The train also had the couple's wedding date embroidered into the fabric. 'We said I do under the Maltese skies in a family fairytale wedding brought to life by so many angels surrounding us,' Goodrem announced on July 10. 'We are holding on to every memory from that moment, the love, the laughter, the happy tears and dancing till the sun came up. 'We can't wait to come back to Australia and celebrate as Mr & Mrs. 'Love, Delta & Matthew xx.' The pair first went public with their relationship on New Year's Eve in 2018, after posting a picture of themselves cuddled up on an outdoor lounger. After almost a decade together, they were engaged in Malta in 2023. Before the wedding day reveal, the couple had been notoriously private and Goodrem has very rarely spoken publicly about her relationship. But in an interview with The Australian's Woman's Weekly in February, 2023, the singer gave a rare look inside their love story. 'He's my guitarist, I met him through music,' Goodrem said. 'It's incredible to be on stage with him because he's so talented. We really are a team. He's my best friend, he's kind and just a beautiful human being. 'But I learnt quite young that I enjoy keeping part of that private. 'I've always been so understanding that I've lived in the public eye since I was a teenager but also I think it's nice to keep some things to yourself.'
