Three clubs face Super League axe over licensing issue
The clubs must submit additional documentation to fulfil financial criteria by May 31.
Failure to comply could see their national licences revoked by the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) independent First Instance Body (FIB).
In a statement, the FIB announced that eight Super League clubs and two Amateur Football League (AFL) A1 teams have fulfilled all licensing requirements for the upcoming season.
FIB licensing committee chairman Sheikh Nasir Sheikh Sharif said the body required additional time to review the documents before making a final decision on May 22.
"I would like to congratulate all clubs that successfully obtained the national licence and commend their outstanding efforts in ensuring their applications were approved," he said.
To be granted a licence, clubs are assessed on six key criteria outlined in the 2024-2025 edition of the MFL Club Licensing Regulations — sports, infrastructure, personnel and administration, legal, financial, and commercial.
The national licence awarded is valid for one season only.
Clubs that have secured full licences for the 2025-2026 season are Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), Selangor, Penang, Kuching City, Sabah, Terengganu, Sri Pahang and Negri Sembilan.
In addition, AFL A1 sides Melaka and Immigration FC have also been granted approval to join the Super League.
KL City, Police and Kelantan Darul Naim, who received conditional licences, must now furnish additional documentation.
Former M-League champions Perak and Kedah Darul Aman failed to secure licences and will not feature in the Super League next season.

Argentine Hidalgo eyes Malaysia call-up after December
KUALA LUMPUR: Argentine Manuel Hidalgo hopes to be a national player for Malaysia. The 26-year-old, currently on loan to KL City from Johor Darul Ta'zim, said he will meet FIFA's five-year residency requirement after December, making him eligible to play for Harimau Malaya. The City Boys kick off their Super League season with a match against Immigration FC at Batu Kawan Stadium in Penang on Saturday.

JDT the clear favourites again

THE 2025-26 football season will kick off with the Charity Shield on August 8. It is a match between 11-time Super League champions JDT FC and another giant in Malaysian football, Selangor FC. It is also the first league game of the new season and a lot will be at stake for both teams. JDT FC will no doubt be the hot favourites to win the tie with their menacing line-up of heritage and naturalised players in addition to their foreign imports and local Internationals. Although I believe Selangor also known as the Red Giants have prepared well and set their sights for a good season, it will still be a very tough task for them to get a win in the season opener. ‘Gaddar' eyes capital gains in terms of progress in new chapter with KL
PETALING JAYA: Fazrul Amir Md Zaman's last stint outside Kelantan came in 2019 with the now-defunct PKNS, when he was a promising youngster trying to make his mark in the Youth and President's Cup. That opportunity did not pan out, but the experience helped shape his journey. Now, seven years later, the man fondly known as 'Gaddar' is ready to take another leap - this time with Kuala Lumpur in the Super League kicking off on Aug 8. After gradually building his reputation back home - especially during a standout 2023 season with Kelantan - Fazrul earned a move to the capital. While some initially viewed him as a potential back-up option, his lively displays in pre-season friendlies suggest he may have a bigger role on the left wing. But the 25-year-old isn't getting ahead of himself as he is well aware of the fierce competition in his position, with Argentine playmaker Manuel Hidalgo, S. Sharvin, and J. Partiban all vying for spots on the flanks. 'This is my second time playing outside the east coast, but I've been able to adapt quickly. The staff and my teammates have helped make the transition smooth,' said Fazrul. 'Competition on the wings is intense, but I consider it a positive challenge. It motivates me to raise my level. 'After four friendly matches, I feel more in tune with the team, and my form is picking up - but there's still plenty I need to improve on.' Kuala Lumpur have played four pre-season friendlies so far, drawing with Bunga Raya (0-0) and Sabah (1-1), beating Armed Forces (3-1), and losing narrowly to Indonesian side Semen Padang (0-1). They will travel to Melaka for another friendly tomorrow, with more matches scheduled before their Super League opener against Immigration at the Batu Kawan Stadium on Aug 12. Last season, Fazrul made 24 appearances in all competitions and scored two goals. 'My personal target this season is to play consistently, contribute more with goals and assists, and keep progressing. 'For the team, the aim is clear - we want to climb up the table and take KL further than before this season.' The City Boys finished sixth with 31 points last season.
