Emergency services were called to reports of a 5G mast alight on Upper Dunmurry Lane shortly after 11:45pm on Monday.
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to access the site due to a locked gate.
The Sunday World understands the mast failed to ignite fully.
Police officers at the scene removed material from the interior of the mast that was used, in an attempt to start the blaze.
The 17 previous attacks
A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said: 'Firefighters used a CO2 extinguisher to extinguish the fire and the scene was handed over to the PSNI.
'The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 1.07am.'
A PSNI spokesperson said: 'Some damage was caused to electronics in a nearby building and we're treating the fire as deliberate, with our enquiries into the matter ongoing.
'We understand the concerns regarding the recent series of attacks on 5G masts in the west Belfast area and the significant disruption these incidents are causing across the community, impacting both businesses and local residents.

'We believe there are individuals with knowledge that could assist us in identifying those responsible for these attacks and, once again, are appealing to the public to share any information with us.
"We're also keen to speak with anyone who might have CCTV or other footage that could assist with our enquiries.
The overnight incident brings the total number of masts destroyed since January 2023 to 18.
Earlier this week the Sunday World reported that a group calling itself 'Anarchy 61' have claimed responsibility for the most recent attacks.
The value of each mast ranges between £100k and £200k meaning the cost of the damage to date could be as high as £3.4m.
In a statement Mobile UK, the umbrella organisation of the UK's main network providers, said the time for condemnation of such incidents has long passed, with providers now seeking what they say will be 'a crucial intervention' from Stormont to help stop the attacks and ensure seamless network coverage for all, across Northern Ireland.

‘I'm lost for what to say': Fermanagh village in shock after three killed in house
It is the most beautiful of rural roads, quiet and tree-lined. The only sounds are the barking of a dog and the voices of television correspondents filing their reports for the evening news. It was here, in a large, detached house around a mile outside the village of Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh , that the 'very harrowing' events of Wednesday morning happened. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it received a call from inside the property at about 7.50am. When they arrived, two people were dead and two others seriously injured. They were all members of the same family and all had sustained gunshot wounds. One of the injured died in hospital in Enniskillen on Wednesday afternoon. It is understood the victims were two children and their mother, who was in her 40s. READ MORE The other individual, an adult male, remains in a serious condition in hospital in Belfast . A murder investigation has been launched and one line of inquiry is that this was a triple murder and an attempted suicide. The names of the victims have not yet been released and, speaking to reporters at a press conference in Enniskillen PSNI station, local police commander Robert McGowan said not all family members had been briefed. He said: 'This tragic event will have sent shockwaves of sadness through the community.' The local GAA club, St Mary's Maguiresbridge, offered 'heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those impacted by this tragic incident which happened in our community'. It said the victims were 'active and beloved members' of the club. Dean Kenneth Hall, bishop's commissary in the diocese of Clogher, said 'the whole community has been shocked and saddened . . . we ask that the family circle of those affected will be kept in our thoughts and prayers'. Elected representatives from both sides of the political divide also expressed their condolences. MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Sinn Féin's Pat Cullen, spent much of the day in the village. Similarly, DUP Assembly member Deborah Erskine was present for much of the day there. On Wednesday evening, forensic officers in white suits could be seen examining a car parked across the road and another in the garden of the property on Drummeer Road. The road remained closed, with tape and a police car acting as a blockade. A number of uniformed police officers were present at the scene. Many locals were reluctant to speak about what happened, with some saying they found it difficult to express the feeling of shock and sadness in the village. 'It's so sad, just so sad,' said one woman. 'Such tragic circumstances – it's the kind of thing you never think could happen.' 'Everyone is saying the same thing, that they're shocked but don't really know what else to say,' said Daniel, a local man. 'It's a strange feeling, like nobody really knows how to feel. 'I've spoken to enough people about this today, I'm lost for what to say any more. Every shop you go into, people are talking about it.' Another man said: 'I'm just shocked. What else can you say? It's just an awful tragedy.'

Documentary on murder of showjumper Katie Simpson set to air after being pulled by family
We can reveal that Jill Robinson, who washed Jonathan Creswell's clothes after he killed the 21-year-old in August 2020, gives an explosive interview to the makers of Death of a Showjumper A Sky documentary about the murder of showjumper Katie Simpson was pulled after her family complained about how one of the women convicted of covering up the murder was portrayed, the Sunday World has learned. We can reveal that Jill Robinson, who washed Jonathan Creswell's clothes after he killed the 21-year-old in August 2020, gives an explosive interview to the makers of Death of a Showjumper. She was one of three women convicted of being involved in the cover-up but she is the only one of the three who agreed to take part in the documentary. Episode one of the three-part show was due to be shown last Wednesday but Sky postponed the screening at the last minute, despite massive publicity. Jill Robinson The family along with their solicitor met the production team from Walk On Air and Sky Studios and it's understood all issues have now been resolved and the show is due to be aired soon. We understand one of the issues that troubled people close to the family – who were given an advance viewing of the three-part series – was how 43-year-old Robinson was portrayed. Robinson, who admitted to perverting the course of justice by washing Creswell's clothes and was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, features throughout the documentary. Meanwhile, it has been claimed that Katie might still be alive if cops had captured Creswell back in 2016 for indecent exposure. Creswell, who took his own life on the second day of his trial for rape and murder of Katie, evaded justice by fleeing across the border to County Donegal in 2016 when a couple made a complaint about him exposing his genitals and making threats to kill them while they worked at stables in County Antrim with him. Creswell was never arrested for that, the case was closed as cops said they could not trace him, despite Creswell setting up a new business in Donegal and repeatedly travelling back into Northern Ireland to attend horse shows and hunt balls. Death of a Showjumper details the shocking death of Katie Simpson A campaigning journalist who features in Death of a Showjumper says Katie might not have been murdered if police had been more diligent in tracing Creswell, especially as by the time he exposed himself he already had served time in jail for battering previous partner Abi Lyle. Tanya Fowles, who fought to have cops reopen the Katie Simpson case after concerns were raised to her about the suicide claim, says police were warned about just how dangerous Creswell was. The exposure victim and her partner – who we are calling Sarah and Ian – worked with Creswell briefly in late 2015. After exposing himself, he was challenged by Ian and Creswell threatened to 'snap (Ian's) neck and break his back' while shouting, 'your c**t of a girlfriend will get what's coming'. Jonathan Creswell 'When Sarah was a victim of Creswell's behaviour in 2016 and reported him to police she was very clear to stress he was dangerous,' Tanya told the Sunday World. 'She recounted very specific details which in essence pointed to him being predatory, sexually deviant and particularly dangerous to females. 'After around a year she was told he could not be found and the PPS had declined to prosecute. 'When the murder trial ended last year Sarah reported her concerns to the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland (PONI)who dismissed her complaint, contending the PSNI had carried out extensive searches for Creswell and believed he had fled to ROI. 'She then contacted me and I very quickly found evidence of Creswell being repeatedly in Northern Ireland and even at the very stable yard where the incident occurred. 'In fact when he went for High Court bail after being charged with Katie's murder, Sarah's case was used as an objection that he may try to flee if released as he had done in the past but his own barrister confirmed he had gone to live in Donegal but apparently drove to the Antrim yard daily to work and police never came looking for him. Death of a Showjumper 'However, what became more concerning in this already epic failure by PSNI around Creswell, I submitted multiple press enquires and FOIs on Sarah's case which have all been stonewalled. 'If PSNI had taken Sarah's account seriously – especially coming on the back of his appalling behaviour against Abi Lyle – Katie may well be alive today. 'This is something which really troubles Sarah and while Creswell was the perpetrator with overall responsibility for his conduct, the PSNI's laxity in addressing this when critical information was brought to their attention meant he ran free and unfettered.' Sarah went back to the Police Ombudsman with the new information about Creswell being seen regularly in Northern Ireland and the new team have reopened her case. The Sunday World can reveal the handling of those complaints made by the couple he threatened are part of a massive PONI probe which has seen 13 police officers investigated. Specialist investigating officers have been brought in from London to look into various potential failures with the handling of the Katie murder. Currently seven police officers are being investigated while six were already looked into during an initial investigation which resulted in an apology from the PSNI. Five of those 13 have retired while under investigation across two separate probes from the police watchdog. We can reveal two retired while being investigated in the first probe while three were disciplined and one was cleared. In the second probe, which is ongoing, three officers have retired and four are still serving. The investigation is muti-layered and covers not just the initial failure to treat the murder as a suicide but also the second police investigation and most importantly potential police failures dating back to 2016. Three of the complaints to PONI were made after the collapse of the trial last year when Creswell took his own life. One complaint has been made about an officer and their conduct while another relates to the overall second police investigation including the failure of police to charge a fourth woman who we understand had admitted to police she was aware Katie had been beaten by Creswell the night before and that he had taken her phone. In August 2020, Katie, a talented showjumper originally from Tynan in Co Armagh, was living with Creswell, his partner Christina, who was Katie's sister, and Creswell and Christina's two young children at Gortnessy Meadows on the Derry outskirts. Shortly before 8.30am on August 3 that year, a 999 call was made saying Katie had been found in the house after apparently having tried to take her own life. Creswell said he found Katie when he returned to the house after taking his children to his mother's house. Instead of waiting for emergency crews, Creswell put Katie in his car and drove towards Altnagelvin Hospital. En route, he was told by a 999 handler to pull over and start CPR on Katie. In a recording of the call, Creswell can be heard counting as he supposedly does resuscitation chest presses. This, it later turned out, was all an act. Paramedics arrived at the scene and took over the efforts to revive Katie before taking her to the hospital. She never regained consciousness and died on August 9, 2020. Assault case against Scottish mobster and Kinahan ally Robert Kelbie dropped
He was due to go on trial on two counts An assault case against Scottish mobster and friend of Daniel Kinahan, Robert Kelbie, has been dropped, the Sunday World has learned. The 41-year-old was due to go on trial, accused of attacking Malcom Gemmill, by punching him in the head at the Newbridge Inn pub near Edinburgh between August 1 and 30, 2021. He was also accused of 'acting in an aggressive manner' towards Mr Gemmill and another person, Lacey Moffat, in Tranent, East Lothian in June 2022. Appearing in Edinburgh Sheriff Court, last February, Kelbie pleaded not guilty to both charges. His co-accused, Lisa Eardley, of South Gyle, Edinburgh, is alleged to have knowingly or recklessly procured medical information relating to Mr Gemmill without consent and disclosing the information to another at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on June 30, 2022. She did not appear at the hearing, but entered a plea of not guilty. The pair were due to go on trial last November; however, it did not go ahead. The case against Kelbie has been dropped completely, while Eardley is due to go on trial at a rescheduled date of October 27th 2025. Robert Kelbie, who was recently snapped backstage at an Oasis gig with singer Noel Gallagher, is a boxing promoter who previously worked for Daniel Kinahan's now-defunct company MTK. The Scotsman, who previously admitted mortgage fraud in 2012, is well-known to Scottish police and has survived three assassination attempts. In July 2023, Tyson Fury was spotted out and about with Kelbie on a whistlestop trip to Edinburgh, where they popped into a plush cocktail bar while the fighter posed for pictures with tour bus staff. Fury and Kelbie (far right) Fraudster, Kelbie, who has links to the Lyons crime clan, became pals with Tyson, who has no links to criminality, after allegedly landing a job working with him three years ago. He's posted numerous snaps on social media alongside stars such as Mike Tyson, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sir Alex Ferguson and Ronnie O'Sullivan. Kelbie claimed to have served as director of talent for MTK Global, the boxing promotions firm linked to mobster Kinahan, and was a key player in setting up a now-defunct MTK gym in Fuerteventura. MTK Global was put out of business after US cops put a $5 million bounty on founder Kinahan's head in 2022. The previous year Kelbie was with Fury when he kicked out at a taxi in an incident caught on camera while they were on holiday in the south of France. Kelbie was seen leaning through the passenger's side window while Fury tried to open the door before it takes off without them. He later uploaded pictures to his Instagram in the resort town that included footage of the boxer and his dad with pints of Stella at a roadside bar. Kelbie, who has reinvented himself as a boxing promoter, is a sworn enemy of jailed cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson (38) whose associates include members of Glasgow's Daniel Clan, MailOnline reports. Robert Kelbie News in 90 Seconds - July 23rd Gangsters working for Richardson are believed to have ripped off Dubai-based Ross 'Miami' McGill with £500,000 of fake cash for a cocaine shipment. The Daniel Clan's deadly rivals, the Lyons gang have reportedly been giving McGill, a former Rangers football ultras 'capo', information on the Edinburgh-based gangsters as he conducted his campaign of revenge. He is alleged to have ordered knife attacks, shootings and firebombing that sparked a tit-for-tat gangland clash. Back in 2010, Kelbie was shot in the back outside a Bannatyne's Health Club in Edinburgh. In 2013, a hail of bullets was fired at the hood's home at Ratho Station, Edinburgh which he fled 2016.
