Influencer Tanner Martin is laid to rest after announcing his own death in heartbreaking video

Daily Mail2 days ago
Influencer Tanner Martin was laid to rest during a funeral service in Utah on Saturday after he announced his own death in a heartbreaking video.
He passed away at the age of 30 following a battle with stage IV colon cancer which he was first diagnosed with in 2020.
The emotional clip was uploaded on June 25 to Instagram by his wife Shay Wright. 41 days before his death, the pair had welcomed their first child together — a daughter named AmyLou.
The public service — which was also streamed via Zoom for those that could not attend in person — had been announced by his wife on social media.
In a post shared a week earlier, Wright encouraged attendees to 'wear something Star Wars in honor of Tanner — ties, pins, stickers, our custom Rebels Against Cancer shirts with other formal wear.'
She added that, 'Tanner requested for Star Wars stickers to be placed on his casket.'
Shay further offered gratitude to the love and support both she and Tanner had received from over the years.
'We are so grateful for this community & all of you that love Tanner with us. Your support has carried us in many years.'
In the caption, Wright also included a quote from Tanner and penned, '"Be kind and assume good intent." - Tanner. Thank you all for your support during this time.'
Martin is survived by Shay, their daughter AmyLou, his mom Kimberly and father Thomas, as well as brother Spencer, per Us Weekly.
Tanner was remembered by his loved ones, including his parents that each gave moving eulogies during the funeral service.
Kimberly said that her son had been an 'outstanding example of faith' and added, 'Even while being very ill with cancer, if you could, you would attend sacrament meetings...in your PJs and robe.
'You taught me that you can see the blessings and love in our Savior in any situation. Because of that, it brings happiness,' she continued.
Kimberly then recalled a conversation she had with Tanner one day when he was receiving chemotherapy treatment.
'I just asked you, "Are you angry or frustrated because I am?" He looked surprised and said to me, "Ma, because of cancer, I have been so blessed."
'"I've been able to experience our Savior's love for me through others. I know I'm loved by my family, friends and those I interact with during treatments,' his mother added.
Tanner had said he was 'blessed' and because of his cancer, he was able to meet 'the nurses and doctors and other patients [who] are so amazing.'
Towards the end of her eulogy, Kimberly expressed that it was 'a miracle' to see Tanner 'grow your family' with Shay.
'You have left an amazing legacy of faith, kindness, love and what it means to be a true disciple of our Savior for our sweet AmyLou.'
Tanner's father also stated that, 'It is an honor and pleasure to be his dad — and it still is,' before adding that his son was 'always just generally happy.'
Shortly before his death, Thomas recalled watching Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings movies with Tanner and his brother Spencer.
He also credited Shay as being a 'wonderful companion' to Tanner but emotionally added, 'It sometimes doesn't seem fair that I've had 30 Father's Days, and Tanner had one.'
Last month on Father's Day, Wright uploaded a video montage to her Instagram page to celebrate Tanner becoming a dad when their daughter was born.
And 10 days later, Tanner delivered the heartbreaking news of his death in a pre-recorded video message posted by Shay.
The couple had documented his difficult journey on social media after he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer five years earlier.
Tanner was as smiley and disarming as ever as he addressed the camera directly.
'Hey, it's me, Tanner. If you're watching this, I am dead,' he began, before easing some of the tension with a laugh at his own gallows humor.
'I had a heck of a life. I decided to make this video announcing my death because I saw someone did that, like, a year or so ago, and I think it's a good opportunity to get all your thoughts out,' he explained.
Despite his bubbly demeanor, his voice was clearly weak and raspy as he spoke about how his wife Shay would cope with his death just weeks after becoming a new mother.
'But you guys, life was awesome. I really enjoyed it while I was here,' Tanner continued.
'Hopefully, I believe there's something after this. I'm excited to meet those people, and hopefully we're hanging out now and making fun of all you nerds,' he said, before noting family members whose deaths preceded his own.
'There's just a lot of people that for the afterlife, I'm excited to see them, and excited to see them not in pain and just happy,' he added.
Even more shocking than the announcement of his own death was how optimistic Tanner managed to be as the end of his time on Earth neared.
'I don't know. I'm like, death is scary, but it's also like a new adventure, you know,' he admitted. 'I'm excited to see what the experience is like, and hopefully it's good.'
He concluded his video by stating that he loved his fans and thanking them for their 'support and helping to make the last years of my life here on earth like fun and enjoyable and helping me be comfortable.'
In her caption, his wife Shay wrote, 'May the force be with you from our angel force ghost see the next video for his wish.'
The second video Shay shared on Wednesday again featured Tanner in the same room, but he was visibly weaker and his voice was even more frail.
He sat on a sofa wrapped in a thick blanket, and next to him was his snoozing baby daughter AmyLou on a pink pillow.
In the heartbreaking video, Tanner said that his daughter likely would have no memories of him because of how young she would be when he died.
He urged his fans to help his wife and daughter after his death by contributing to a GoFundMe account set up in their name.
By 2023, doctors determined that Tanner's cancer was no longer curable, and they estimated that he might live two to five more years
According to the Washington Post, Tanner began noticing symptoms of his cancer — initially just stomach aches — in 2020.
But the pain soon grew, and he decided to see a doctor about it after he began having difficulty going to the bathroom as well.
A colonoscopy soon discovered that he had stage 4 colorectal cancer, which had already spread to his liver by the time it was discovered.
By 2023, doctors determined that Tanner's cancer was no longer curable, and they estimated that he might live two to five more years.

Heartbreaking video shows Camp Mystic girls having fun hours before floods swept dozens to their deaths

Heart-wrenching video showed campers dancing and having fun at Camp Mystic just hours before dozens of them were swept away in the tragic flash flooding. The all-girls Christian camp near the Guadalupe River, Texas, was hosting 750 girls for the summer when a heavy deluge on Friday night swept away the camp in the dead of night. Cabins housing the eight and nine year old girls were the worst hit. At least 27 campers and counselors are confirmed dead in the tragedy, with 11 more missing. Video taken by Camp Mystic nurse Devon Paige captured the joy and fun of camp in the hours before the tragedy. The girls danced and ran around the food hall, played running games in the grass and cheered each other on in the heartwarming video. They were blissfully unaware of the horrors to come just hours later. The death toll for the Fourth of July holiday weekend tragedy surpassed 100 on Monday, c limbing to at least 104 as rescues scoured the debris for bodies. First responders are stil l hopeful that they'll find survivors four days after the tragedy, but have acknowledged that the window is quickly closing. Paige later shared a series of devastating videos en route to the reunification center after the floods struck. One of the eerie videos captured the moment a bus full of singing girls fell nearly silent as they were confronted with the devastation of the floods. The girls were singing Christian hymns in unison, trying to stay calm as their bus navigated the dangerous drive to safety. But their voices suddenly faded, replaced by gasps and quiet cries of 'oh my god, oh my god' as the true scale of the destruction came into view. The footage shows the bus moving through floodwaters, passing downed trees, submerged streets, wrecked homes, and cars tossed together like toys. 'The girls are singing to try and calm everyone,' Paige said. 'This is footage from my evacuation and everything I saw. I wish you could see before shots to show how truly devastating it is.' The video moved thousands on TikTok, with many users comparing the scene to a real-life horror movie. Operators of Camp Mystic, a century-old, all-girl summer camp in the Texas Hill Country, said on Monday 10 girls and one counselor remain missing. The raging flash floods — among the nation's worst in decades — slammed into riverside camps and homes before daybreak Friday, pulling sleeping people out of their cabins, tents and trailers and dragging them for miles past floating tree trunks and automobiles. Some survivors were found clinging to trees. Piles of twisted trees sprinkled with mattresses, refrigerators, coolers and canoes now litter the riverbanks. Search-and-rescue teams used heavy equipment near Kerrville to remove large branches while volunteers covered in mud sorted through chunks of debris, piece by piece. It is unclear how many people remain missiong across Central Texas, but there are fears that the weather could continue to worsen into Monday night. The National Weather Service is predicting two to three inches of rain to fall per hour, with even more in some regions. These areas are already soaked through from the heavy deluge of the weekend and any more rain will likely cause rapid flash flooding.

Blake Lively is forced to answer tough questions about It Ends with Us after bold legal move

In the latest phase in the litigation surrounding last summer's hit romantic drama It Ends with Us, a date has been set for Blake Lively to answer questions asked by the attorneys of her costar in the film, Justin Baldoni. An email sent July 2 stated that the deposition for Lively, who shares four children with husband Ryan Reynolds, 48, is set for July 17. The details were uncovered as part of a request for a one-week extension after attorneys for Lively, 37, subpoenaed a pair of publicists employed by Baldoni, 41; an attorney for the publicists then subsequently filed the motion, People reported Monday. The Gossip Girl alum, who with Reynolds was dismissed from Baldoni's $400 million defamation and extortion lawsuit nearly a month ago, is tentatively slated to take the stand when the trial begins in New York City in March 2026. The deposition is slated to take place in New York City, insiders confirmed to TMZ, but it was unclear where. Insiders with Lively told the outlet she was prepared to face a series of difficult inquiries; and that Reynolds isn't expected to attend. Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Lively and Baldoni for further comment on the story. Baldoni lawyer Bryan Freedman spoke with TMZ Live June 10 - a day after a New York City judge scuttled a $400 million suit Baldoni filed accusing Lively and spouse Ryan Reynolds of defamation and extortion. The lawyer admitted that while he and the Baldoni camp 'weren't pleased that that the judge dismissed the defamation claim, ' it wasn't 'what the case is about.' The attorney then recapped the series of events that led to the massive litigation surrounding the surprise summer hit. 'We got started because Blake Lively filed a CRD complaint and then walked over and filed a lawsuit,' he said, 'which accused some very good people of a smear campaign and accused a terrific young man of sexual harassment - both of the which were completely untrue.' 'And that's where the case got started' and 'where the case stands today.' 'What we wanted our win is to show there was no smear campaign, and there's no sexual harassment,' Freedman explained. 'And she hasn't proved a thing - as a matter of fact, it's just the opposite.' Freedman told TMZ Live that evidence presented in the early stages of litigation has been damning for Lively and Reynolds. 'Look at the facts, look at what's been shown, look at the receipts, look at the video,' said the lawyer. Freedman told the outlet that proving the claims Lively made to be false has always been the chief focus for Baldoni's team, 'in addition to getting damages.' He said he was hoping Lively didn't 'drop her lawsuit ... because she's on a false victory tour, and she's afraid of the truth. 'The truth is, you know, going to be shown through depositions, which is what's going to be next, I've noticed her deposition - it's set in June - we're going to see if she's going to appear at that deposition or not,' Freedman said. 'And we're gonna proceed forward with the case, and we're gonna show that there was no sexual harassment, and we're gonna show that there was no smear campaign.' The actress on Monday released a powerful statement on June 9, hours after a judge dismissed Baldoni's case. 'Last week, I stood proudly alongside 19 organizations united in defending women's rights to speak up for their safety,' Lively said on Instagram. 'Like so many others, I've felt the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit, including the manufactured shame that tries to break us.' The Los Angeles-born star continued: 'While the suit against me was defeated, so many don't have the resources to fight back.' Lively vowed that she was 'more resolved than ever to continue to stand for every woman's right to have a voice in protecting themselves, including their safety, their integrity, their dignity and their story.' Lively wrapped up in thanking those in the public who have supported her amid the turbulent past year. 'With love and gratitude for the many who stood by me, many of you I know,' Lively said. 'Many of you I don't. But I will never stop appreciating or advocating for you.' The It Ends With Us actress, whose legal battle has had a significant impact on her friendship with Taylor Swift, added a list of groups that had publicly supported her amid the highly-publicized Tinseltown tussle. Among them, in alphabetical order, were the California Employment Lawyers Association, California Women's Law Center, CHILD USA, Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, Equal Rights Advocates, Esperanza United, Her Justice, and Herunivercity Inc. In a move that might have been a harbinger of changing momentum in the case, Lively took aim at Baldoni Thursday, saying that women's groups had abandoned him in droves. A total of '19 leading survivors and organizations devoted to women's rights, children's rights and domestic violence have now signed onto four separate amicus briefs,' a spokesperson for the Another Simple Favor actress told Daily Mail in a statement. The statement continued: 'All are united in opposing Justin Baldoni's attempt to dismantle a law designed to protect women who speak up — simply to protect himself.' Lively's team said that Baldoni was going against his own playbook as the complicated legal case progresses, leaving himself open to increased scrutiny in the wake of his past public statements. 'Rather than defend his case on the facts, Baldoni is now contradicting years of his own public persona - abandoning the message of his #MeToo YouTube 's, podcasts, TED Talks, and interviews, where he once upon a time urged men 'to listen to the women in your life … to hold their anguish and actually believe them, even if what they're saying is against you,' Lively's rep said. The statement wrapped up: 'These women and organizations are sounding the alarm about his DARVO tactics, and the chilling effect they could have well beyond this case.' One party that can breathe a sigh of relief after Baldoni's lawsuit was thrown out is Marvel Entertainment, LLC. Baldoni had subpoenaed the studio to get it to preserve any documents related to the Deadpool & Wolverine character Nicepool, which his legal team claimed was designed 'to mock, harass, ridicule, intimidate or bully' Baldoni. But after throwing out Baldoni's lawsuit, Liman agreed to Marvel's request to 'quash the subpoena issued to Marvel from [Baldoni's] Wayfarer Parties and for a protective order prohibiting the disclosure of Marvel's confidential documents.' Baldoni's team had send a letter requesting documents be retained to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Bob Iger, CEO of its parent company Walt Disney, on January 7. Lively has accused Baldoni of sexual harassment in a lawsuit; while Baldoni accused Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds and publicist Leslie Sloane of defamation and extortion in a $400 million suit - the latter of which was dismissed Monday. Baldoni has denied the allegations brought about by Lively, while Lively, Reynolds and Sloane have denied the accusations made in litigation by Baldoni. Lively in December sued Baldoni amid claims of sexual harassment during production of the motion picture. In her lawsuit, the Gossip Girl alum accused Baldoni of sexually harassing her in multiple ways — including body shaming her — and orchestrating a smear campaign against her to damage her reputation. The star of films such as The Town and The Shallows posted a statement to her Instagram Stories amid the momentous legal proceedings June 9 Baldoni and his reps have said in response to the lawsuit that Lively twisted the meaning of text messages and mislead the public about their interactions while making the motion picture. In her lawsuit, Lively named a number of Baldoni's collaborators, including his company Wayfarer Studios, the studio's CEO and financial backer, and PR personnel Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel. Baldoni subsequently sued the newspaper for $250 million in a defamation claim over a December 21 story titled '"We Can Bury Anyone": Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine ;' the newspaper has denied the allegations. Baldoni on January 16 filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds and her publicist Leslie Sloane, alleging defamation and extortion. Baldoni told the court the trio had concocted 'false accusations of sexual harassment' against him. In the film based off Colleen Hoover's 2016 novel, Lively portrayed florist Lily Bloom opposite Baldoni who played the role of Ryle Kincaid.
