Domestic Trade Ministry rolls out ‘Ops Kesan 4' to tackle profiteering after SST expansion
He said the operation is part of the ministry's efforts to ensure that traders do not exploit the situation by raising prices unreasonably.
'The KPDN minister (Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali) announced yesterday the implementation of 'Ops Kesan 4', which among other things, aims to prevent profiteering following the SST expansion,' Fahmi said during the ministry's weekly press conference today.
He urged the public to take note of the KPDN hotline and to lodge complaints if they come across any businesses charging unreasonable prices.
Fahmi added that KPDN would promptly identify and take appropriate action against any businesses found guilty of such practices.
Yesterday, Fahmi said he believed the new electricity tariffs would not lead to price increases.
He also reiterated that some 23.6 million consumers are expected to benefit from lower electricity bills, with the revised tariffs taking effect yesterday.
He said the new base tariff is 19 per cent lower than previously anticipated.
'For those using less than 1,000 kWh a month, their bills are likely to remain unchanged or may even be lower,' he said.
He added that the most notable change under the new structure is the revised peak hours, now set from 2pm to 10pm starting yesterday.

Melaka KPDN monitors 5 essential items in Op Kesan 4.0
MELAKA: The Melaka Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is closely monitoring five essential household items under 'Op Kesan 4.0' to prevent price manipulation. The operation, launched today, focuses on condensed milk, chocolate malt drinks, wheat flour, sardines, and white bread. Melaka KPDN director Dr Mohd Hazimin Jamaludin stated, 'This focus is also part of the monitoring measures following the implementation of the Sales Tax rate review and the expanded scope of the Service Tax (SST), which began on July 1.' From July 1 to July 17, authorities inspected 35 premises involving 63 stock-keeping units (SKUs). A written notice was issued for three SKUs, including a viral case related to ice pricing. Mohd Hazimin added that KPDN is also checking for quantity manipulation, where packaging sizes shrink without significant price adjustments. 'Sometimes the price remains the same, but the quantity decreases. What is important is not just cheapness, but fairness to consumers.' Consumers are encouraged to report violations via WhatsApp (019-8488000), the e-complaint portal ( or the call centre (1-800-886-800). From January 1 to July 17, Melaka KPDN recorded 234 enforcement cases under various Acts, with seizures worth RM261,360. Compounds totalled RM66,700, while fines reached RM299,500. TH Plantations CEO put on garden leave, CFO quits over RM5mil payouts
TH Plantations Bhd is a Malaysian oil palm company under Tabung Haji. KUALA LUMPUR : TH Plantations Bhd CEO Zainurin Zain and CFO Marliyana Omar have been served with show-cause letters over alleged unauthorised payments of RM5.1 million to plantation workers. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, TH Plantations said Zainurin has been placed on garden leave until further notice while Marliyana chose to tender her resignation with immediate effect. 'The company shall continue its business as usual. 'In the interim, the functions of the CEO shall be assumed by a temporary committee until further notice,' it said. The temporary board committee comprises TH Plantations chairman Ahmad Kushairi Din, independent non-executive director Kasmuri Sukardi, non-independent non-executive director Nor Adila Ismail, and chief operating officer Alikamal Abu Hassan. TH Plantations is an oil palm company under Tabung Haji.
