
Police urge woman in viral phone theft video to surrender
KAJANG: Police have urged a woman, who was caught on camera allegedly stealing a mobile phone from a food outlet at Cheras Trader Square, Batu 9, here on Thursday, to surrender herself.
The suspect's image, captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV), has since gone viral, making her easily recognisable.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that a police report was lodged at 9.48pmon June 27 by a 20-year-old woman.
"The complainant said her Huawei Nova 5G mobile phone had gone missing while she was working at the counter of the premises.
"CCTV footage from inside the shop showed a woman taking the phone, which had been placed on the counter," he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Police are advising the suspect to surrender at the nearest police station.
Members of the public with information are urged to assist in the investigation by contacting any police station or the investigating officer, Inspector Ammar Mohd Tahir, at 018-2586153.

Drunken dispute turns violent, man stabbed outside supermarket in Tawau
TAWAU: A dispute between two men believed to be under the influence of alcohol turned violent when one of them was stabbed outside a supermarket here yesterday afternoon. The incident took place at 3.43pm after an argument broke out between the two labourers, who are known to each other. Both were reportedly intoxicated at the time. The suspect is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lacking valid travel documents and is being detained under Section 51(5)(b) of the same Act. Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the victim lying on the ground with serious injuries. Several bystanders were seen surrounding him at the scene. The victim was later rushed to hospital for treatment.

Young suspects: The five MRSM students being remanded to assist in investigations over the bullying case in Kuala Terengganu. — Bernama KUALA TERENGGANU: Five students have been remanded to assist investigations in a bullying case at Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Besut. The three-day remand order, which expires tomorrow, was issued by Senior Assistant Registrar Yuhanis Mohd Roslan at the Magistrate's Court here yesterday. The five students, aged between 15 and 17, were remanded for investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code, Bernama reported. Besut police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said a Form Two student lodged a report alleging he was bullied by several Form Three students around 11.30pm on Tuesday. In a statement on Thursday, he said the boy suffered pain in his abdomen and right rib, as well as bruises on his back. The incident was discovered by a dormitory warden who informed the victim's family.

Two foreigners detained for impersonating public servant and fighting in Selangor
KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained two foreign men yesterday for allegedly impersonating a public servant and engaging in a physical altercation at Jalan Dinar, Taman Subang Perdana, Kampung Baru Subang, Selangor. Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said authorities received a distress call at 1.15 pm, prompting patrol officers to intervene. 'Upon arriving, officers arrested two foreign nationals, aged 26 and 32, suspected of involvement in the fight. One was found handcuffed inside a car,' he stated. Initial investigations revealed the dispute arose from a personal disagreement between the two individuals, who were reportedly friends. Police seized two Perodua cars and a pair of handcuffs from the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 160 (affray) and Section 170 (impersonating a public servant) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 89 of the Police Act 1967 for unlawful possession of police equipment.
