Meta upgrades online ad tools to let brands optimise for value and profit

Meta is making changes to its ads ecosystem to let advertisers share information about the types of outcomes they value and how they measure success.
The company announced updates to its suite of advertising tools such as Value Optimization, Incremental Attribution, and Value Rules on Wednesday, June 4. It said that advertisers who were focused on maximising the value of conversions rather than the total number of conversions saw a 12 per cent higher return on ad spend (ROAS) on average.
For example, a business using value optimisation with a $200 campaign budget would prefer $500 in revenue from three sales for a ROAS of 2.5 over $400 in revenue from four sales for a ROAS of 1.25. Hence, Meta said it has accordingly rolled out updates to its existing value optimisation solution.
'In an era of AI-enabled advertising where the best performing campaigns are those that have flexibility to find the most relevant customers, our goal is to help advertisers guide our ads system to optimize for the outcomes that are most important to their business,' Meta said in a statement.
This comes just days after reports indicated that Meta plans to let brands fully create and target ads using its AI tools by the end of next year. A brand could provide a product image and a budget, and Meta's AI would generate the ad, including image, video and text, and then determine user targeting on Instagram and Facebook with budget suggestions, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
While most advertisers consider purchase size or profit to be ROAS, some calculate the metric based on value associated with a custom event or a non-purchase standard event, such as getting someone to make their first purchase, or having someone sign up for a subscription.
For such advertisers, Meta said it is testing the ability for them to share data through a Conversions API that highlights the profit driven from a sale.
The company provided the example of Laura Geller, a beauty brand that was able to improve its ROAS through its ad campaigns on Meta after using the upgraded ad products. '. Compared to their business as usual campaigns focused on new purchasers, they were able to increase ROAS by 46 per cent,' Meta said.
In addition, advertisers on Meta will also now be able to share more granular click-level attribution information, such as an individual click credited with a conversion, with the tech giant. Meta also supports Analytics integrations of Adobe Advertising, Northbeam, Rockerbox, Triple Whale, and other partners.

A lack of retail shops in the past has created a culture of thrift in northeastern states where secondhand goods arrive in bales. We stand out by offering quality products at reasonable prices.'With thrift shops launching on Instagram on a daily basis, curation, quality control and deliverables are the way risk analyst Aparna Balaji has thrifted from shops in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, and says they understand the meaning of thrifting. 'They carefully choose the pieces they put up. So, it's unique. It is sent through India Post , making it even lighter on the pocket and truly sustainable, what thrifting is meant to be,' says bag designer Sudha Sekhar has faced some issues. 'I am particular about the cut and fabric. These pages mostly get products from East Asian countries that almost always have smaller sizes. 'One needs to really do some homework for the business to thrive. Understanding the customer's choice is very important. Since 90% of my clients are from places that are hot and humid, I mostly source comfortable natural materials,' says Mashangva, a physics teacher-turned-thrift business says sourcing good pieces has become tough: 'Sometimes after going through 1,000-3,000 items, we end up with just 40-90 good pieces.' She does a drop of 20-25 pieces. She sells 30-50% of clothes on the day of the drop but ends up with a lot of unsold items, which are put on sale after a couple of says, 'When you are selecting from 100 kg bales, you end up with a lot of defective pieces.' And the number of followers matters a lot for this business.'Jajo says that whether the thrift stores will succeed depends on the individuals running it. 'We started small but have grown into a sustainable business over the past six years. Demand and growth have been steady, with 80% customers returning.' New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned representatives of tech giants Meta and Google as part of a money laundering investigation against a number of illegal online betting platforms, official sources said on Saturday. The executives have been asked to depose before the agency on July 21 here and get their statements recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said. There was no immediate response from the two companies. The federal agency is probing multiple platforms hosting illegal betting and gambling links, including instances of advertisements placed for them on various Internet-based social media outlets and app stores. The tech giants are understood to have been called by the ED to understand how such illegal platforms are able to place advertisements on their social media and communication links. Some actors, celebrities and sports persons are also under the scanner of the agency in these cases, and they are also expected to be summoned by the ED soon. The ED has said illegal online betting and gambling platforms were cheating innocent people of their hard-earned money and also laundering and evading taxes worth crores of rupees.
