Joint operation held to curb narcotics smuggling at railway station
To check the smuggling of narcotics and ganja at the Vijayawada railway station, a special drive was carried out on Tuesday. Teams from the Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (ELITE), Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) participated in the drive.
Following the directions of ELITE IGP Ake Ravi Krishna and GRP Superintendent of Police, Rahul Dev Singh, the teams searched the platforms and luggage in the waiting halls.
As part of the inspection, the teams checked Train No. 17479 (Puri-TPTY) Express with the assistance of a sniffer dog.
GRP inspector J.V. Ramana and Vijayawada RPF inspector Baig said: 'The drive is part of our efforts to prevent smuggling through trains.'

Architect of Jambhulkheda blast, which claimed lives of 15 jawans, arrested
1 2 Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough, Gadchiroli police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested a hardcore Maoist, Ankal alias Mannu Sulge Pallo, deputy commander of the Korchi Dalam, on Friday from Kawande jungle, near Maharashtra's last police post. He had a reward of Rs six lakh on his head. This post gained prominence after the visit of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis last month. The 28-year-old Maoist, a resident of Kawande in Bharmaragad tehsil, was nabbed while conducting reconnaissance to orchestrate subversive activities in the region. Sulge, who was underground since 2020, was a key figure in the 2019 Jambhulkheda blast in Kurkheda which killed 15 police personnel. The NIA took over the probe into the blast. Sulge's active involvement in the attack and other violent anti-state operations made him a high-value target, with the Maharashtra govt announcing a reward for his capture. Sulge's arrest marks a major success in Gadchiroli police's anti-Maoist operations, with 104 Maoists apprehended since January 2022. The operation was executed by a joint team comprising the Special Operations Squad, Kawande police post, and CRPF's 37th Battalion C-Company. Acting on intelligence, the teams spotted a suspicious individual in the Kawande jungle, leading to Sulge's swift apprehension. Further interrogation revealed his role in multiple violent incidents, including a 2021 encounter in Khobrameda jungle. He faces charges in five cases, including three encounters and two murders. A Kurkheda court has remanded him to seven days of police custody. Sulge's Maoist journey began in 2012 as a member of the National Indravati Park Company in Chhattisgarh, followed by stints in Bharmaragad and Korchi Dalams, rising to deputy commander by 2017. Since 2020, he operated covertly along the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, gathering intelligence for Maoist activities. The operation was led under the guidance of senior officials, including Inspector General (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sandip Patil, Deputy Inspector General Ankit Goyal, and Gadchiroli SP Neelotpal, who vowed to intensify anti-Maoist operations.

Security up at 3 places in Ganjam after man crushed under chariot wheels
1 2 Berhampur: A day after a 32-year-old man was allegedly crushed to death under the wheels of a chariot at Sikula in Ganjam district, security has been tightened in places where Rath Yatra was held on Saturday. Chariots are pulled by devotees in Digapahandi, Dharakote and Surangi, a day after Puri. Hundreds of people from nearby villages pulled the chariot in Digapahandi and Dharakote, while several people from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and tribals thronged Surangi in Patrapur block to participate in the festival. Siba Behera of Sikula died after the chariot allegedly ran over him on Friday. He was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries late evening, police said. "We are investigating the incident," said Deepak Mishra, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Purushottampur. "Following the accident, we have asked police officers to keep strict vigil on chariot pulling in their areas," said SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M. He said adequate forces were also deployed in Surangi and Digapahandi to ensure incident-free Rath Yatra. "Ever since the Jagannath Temple was built in Surangi, located near the Andhra Pradesh border, by the then king in the 18th century, the pulling of chariot was done a day after Puri Rath Yatra," said Anchal Pradhan, an elderly resident. Similar tradition continues in Dharakote and Digapahandi. "Bahuda Yatra will also be observed in these places a day after the traditional return car festival. It's our tradition since the temple was established," said Kuresh Patra, an advocate in Digapahandi. According to legends, everyone went to participate in the Rath Yatra in nearby places, including Jarada and Chikiti, leaving behind hardly any devotee to pull chariots in Digapahandi, Dharakote and Surangi. This propmpted the kings to postpone the pulling of chariots for a day. Rath Yatra was celebrated in Jarada on Friday, where Lord Jagannath is worshipped as Lord Parthasarathi.

40 lakh, gold found in ACB officer's home at Jagatpura
Jaipur: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Saturday claimed recovering over Rs 49 lakh in unaccounted cash, including the Rs 9.35 lakh found in his car, and nearly Rs 40 lakh during a late-night raid at the house of additional SP Jogaram Meena in Jagatpura. The searches also led to seizure of gold and silver jewellery, property documents worth crores, and 85 bottles of expensive foreign liquor. ACB has indicated that while Meena has not yet been formally arrested, further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation. The case could potentially expose deeper layers of systemic corruption within govt departments in the state. Additional DG (ACB) Smita Srivastava said the officer has been relieved from the bureau and sent back to his parent department. An FIR will be registered against Meena after a thorough investigation, Srivastava said. The investigation into Meena's conduct began after ACB's intelligence wing received inputs indicating that he was misusing his official position for corrupt practices. ACB's operation commenced Friday when Meena was intercepted at a toll plaza in Shivdaspura near Jaipur, while traveling back from Jhalawar with allegedly collected bribe money. The cash found in his vehicle was concealed in bundles and envelopes. Following the initial seizure, ACB teams conducted a raid on Meena's residence, employing cash-counting machines to tally the amounts discovered. The searches also found documentation related to multiple immovable assets, indicating that Meena may have amassed a significant portfolio through corrupt dealings. The liquor bottles found at his residence, stored without proper permits, have prompted the ACB to alert the Ramnagariya police station to act under the Excise Act. ACB officials said Meena was under surveillance for the past two months. During this time, he allegedly collected regular payments, described as "monthly cuts" and facilitation bribes, from various govt department officials in Jhalawar. Investigators are now reviewing Meena's phone call records, WhatsApp chats and financial transactions.
