Fleet Expansion Plan: Royal Air Maroc Receives 2 New Boeing 737 MAX 8

Morocco World5 days ago
Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) received two new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on Thursday as part of the carrier's fleet expansion plan.
In a report today, Moroccan news outlet Le360 quoted Royal Air Maroc's head of the Prospective, Strategy and Fleet Department, as emphasizing the importance of the new fleet batch for the company.
'This is a big day for us,' Fadwa Mahamma said, adding that the two aircraft mark a 'significant acceleration in the expansion of our fleet, fully aligned with our company's ambitions supported by the State.'
She revealed that Royal Air Maroc has been receiving 'nearly one aircraft every two weeks, meaning that by the end of the year, around ten aircraft will join our fleet.'
Mehdi El Yaalaoui, RAM's Director of Strategy and Innovation, echoed Mahamma's remarks, noting that these planes will allow the company to renew its fleet and to improve the onboard experience for its customers.
El Yaaloui said the fleet will also reduce its carbon footprint by 15%, citing next-generation engines.
'Each new delivery symbolizes our collective commitment to achieving the goals of our development plan and to being ready for major events like the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup, two key moments for our country and continent,' he added.
In June, RAM's CEO Hamid Addou expressed frustration over Boeing's delays in submitting ordered aircraft.
'You have to offer your customers what they're paying for. And in the economy… You have to offer the kind of service they're expecting. So we need to invest in the product, and we are already doing it,' Addou told CNN.
'One feels frustrated when you have 15 to 18 months of late deliveries,' Addou said, but acknowledged that all executives and airlines face the same and that promises have been made and steps have been taken for things to evolve in the 'right direction.' Tags: Royal Air MarocRoyal Air Maroc (RAM)

UM6P, Tanger Med Launch AI Program to Transform Industrial Operations

Marrakech – The University Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P) and Tanger Med Group signed a new partnership agreement on Tuesday, launching the 'AI Tanger Med' program. This initiative mobilizes students from the 1337 MED campus to develop artificial intelligence solutions for real industrial challenges faced by companies within the Tanger Med ecosystem. The program operates under the scientific guidance of UM6P's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to ensure strong academic foundations while addressing practical operational needs. Students work on concrete projects involving automation, data analysis, and cybersecurity – all directly connected to port, logistics, and industrial operations. 'The terrain becomes a classroom and puts innovation at the service of operational excellence,' states the joint press release from both organizations. This approach creates a dual benefit: Tanger Med brings together its partners to formulate operational problems, while students gain an immersive, structured experience connecting their technical skills to industrial realities. The agreement builds upon a successful collaboration that began in 2021 with the establishment of the 1337 MED campus in Martil near Tangier. Today, this campus hosts nearly 400 students trained through a unique model in Morocco based on project learning, mutual assistance, and autonomy. Without traditional lectures or professors, students develop problem-solving skills through collaborative projects. This partnership propels the North African country's digital landscape forward alongside other technological initiatives. Earlier in July, the Ministry of Digital Transition held the first national conference on artificial intelligence under the theme 'An Efficient and Ethical AI Strategy Serving Our Society.' During this conference, Digital Transition Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni declared that 'integrating AI into the national strategic horizon is a prerequisite for sovereignty.' She asserted that AI must be viewed 'not as a subsidiary technical solution, but as a fundamental institutional responsibility.' The government has recently launched several initiatives to position Morocco as a regional leader in AI. On July 22, a protocol agreement between government ministries, the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency (AMDIE), and the French group, Onepoint, established a data and AI excellence center in the Casablanca-Settat region. The project plans to recruit 500 Moroccan engineers over four years, strengthening expertise in AI, middleware, and data management. Additionally, the Ministry of Digital Transition signed partnerships with UM6P in early July to advance research in data centers and digital sovereignty as part of the 'Morocco Digital 2030' national strategy.

Morocco's tourism revenues reach 54 billion dirhams by June 2025, up 9.6%

Tourism revenues in Morocco reached 54 billion dirhams by the end of June 2025, marking a 9.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024, an additional 4.7 billion dirhams, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy. This strong performance, the ministry explained in a statement, is largely due to a 19% rise in tourist arrivals, highlighting Morocco's growing appeal as a top international destination. The increase also contributed significantly to boosting the country's foreign currency reserves and supporting the national economy. Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor stated that this momentum reinforces Morocco's ambition to position itself as a high-value tourism destination. «We're focusing on investing in tourism-related entertainment, which is a key driver for increasing visitor spending, extending stays, and encouraging repeat visits», she said. The ministry noted that the rise in both tourist numbers and foreign currency revenues is a direct result of initiatives under the 2023–2026 roadmap to improve air connectivity and promote Moroccan tourism abroad. These results are supported by several initiatives aimed at diversifying the tourism offering and maximizing the positive economic impact across all regions of the Kingdom. Among them is the GO SIYAHA program, designed to develop new and innovative tourist experiences across Morocco. Additional efforts include the launch of specialized incubators in areas such as Moroccan cuisine, gaming and digital services, which aim to foster creative ideas tailored to tourists' expectations. The ministry also highlighted the creation of a project bank containing over 900 ready-to-launch tourism projects nationwide. These are intended to capitalize on local potential and help develop concrete, marketable tourism offerings across the country.
