Violent crime victims remembered during El Paso District Attorney's Office ceremony
The ceremony was held at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 6, at the Crime Victims Memorial at Yucca Park near Yarbrough Drive in El Paso's Lower Valley. The event is part of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, which is observed April 6 through April 12.
The 34th Judicial District is the top law enforcement official in El Paso, Hudspeth and Culberson counties.
"The message I want for you all to take away is that you are not alone," El Paso District Attorney James Montoya said during the ceremony. "You are not alone in your loss. This community is here for you. There are others who are here for you. We are here for you."
More than four dozen El Paso victims of violent crimes last year were added to this year's list. Each name was read with a bell being struck after each name. The ceremony lasted nearly three hours. The names included fallen El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputy Peter Herrera, the victims of alleged 'Desert Killer' David Wood, and the El Paso Walmart mass shooting victims.
The annual event was attended by victims' family members and friends, El Paso community members, district attorney's office staff and local law enforcement officials.
'The assistant district attorneys who are participating in the Reading of the Names got to know the families of those who suffered a loss of a loved one,' Montoya said in a statement. 'They worked to prosecute those responsible for these violent crimes that robbed them of a loved one. It's meaningful to everyone who participates that these members of our community — who were taken from us far too soon — are remembered.'

El Paso police look for missing pregnant woman last seen in Northeast neighborhood
The El Paso Police Department has issued a "missing person" bulletin for a pregnant woman who has been gone for more than 24 hours. El Paso man allegedly robs Subway disguised as woman, wearing pink dress, high heels
An El Paso man was arrested after allegedly robbing a Subway restaurant wearing a pink dress, high heels, and a dark wig, authorities said. Deputies responded about 7:25 p.m. Sunday, June 22, to a report of an armed robbery at a Subway restaurant located in the 12500 block of Pellicano Drive in the Far Eastside, El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Priscilla Contreras wrote in a news release. Employees told deputies a man entered the restaurant wearing a pink dress, high heels, a dark wig and sunglasses. The man concealed one arm under a brown paper bag and handed the employees a note that read, 'Money in the bag,' the news release states. The man was "pointing the bag in a threatening manner to suggest he was armed," the news release states. He fled with about $50 to $60 in cash. He was last seen leaving in a white Nissan Frontier pickup truck. The truck was later connected to two additional robberies in the area, the news release states. No information was released on the two other robberies. More: Cameras, witnesses saw shooter in El Paso homicide at Nations Tobin Park An investigation by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office's Major Crimes Unit and El Paso Police Department identified 29-year-old Manuel Reyes as the suspect, the news release states. Reyes was arrested in connection with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of robbery. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Tuesday, June 24, on a bond totaling $130,000. He remains jailed as of Friday, June 27, jail logs show. No further information was released as the case remains under active investigation. El Paso police ID man killed in triple-shooting at Nations Tobin Park
El Paso police officials have identified the man killed in a triple-shooting that wounded two others at Nations Tobin Park. Jose Jesus Gonzalez Jr., 34, died at a hospital following a shooting that wounded Jacob Mathew Gonzalez, 22, and Ethan Alexander Ramos, also 22, on Friday morning at the park in Northeast El Paso, stated a news release issued Monday, June 23, by Detective Judy Oviedo. Two men were brothers and the other is a cousin, according to a GoFundMe page created by Gonzalez's sister to raise money to help with funeral expenses. "This was unexpected and my family was not prepared for having to bury him so young," his sister stated on the page. "My brother leaves behind four kids and one on the way. His life was taken way too soon and for absolutely nothing. He had flaws and he was not perfect just like the rest of us." Robert Joseph Privett, 22, has been arrested on a murder charge in connection with the park shooting, police said. Privett, who is a Northeast resident, is being held on a $1 million bond at the El Paso County Jail in Downtown, according to a jail log. The shooting occurred Friday morning involving a red car that had crashed into a tree at Nations Tobin Park, 8831 Railroad Drive. A possible motive in the gun violence has not been disclosed. Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit "through swift and coordinated efforts" identified Privett, who was later arrested as the suspect in the shooting, police stated.
