Jamala Musiala's injury hits FC Bayern Munich, says Max Eberl

Hans India4 hours ago
FC Bayern Munich have confirmed that midfielder Jamal Musiala will be out for a long time after examinations by the German champions' doctors revealed that the attacking midfielder sustained a fracture of the fibula associated with a broken and dislocated ankle. The 22-year-old flew from Orlando to Munich on Sunday morning and will undergo surgery soon.
The 22-year-old suffered a serious injury during the Club World Cup quarter-final between FC Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain in the USA and had to be substituted at half-time.
Max Eberl, FC Bayern board member for sport claimed the injury 'hits' FC Bayern as a club and offered support to the young footballer.
'This serious injury and the lengthy lay-off are a real shock for Jamal and us all. This hits FC Bayern. Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he has in our team. Furthermore, there's also a huge human impact and we all feel for him: Jamal has just come back from an injury and will now be out for another long period. He'll get everything he needs from us. We'll support him intensively, be by his side and already look forward to when he's back on the pitch,' read the statement by Eberl.
Saturday's game also marked Thomas Muller's storied Bayern Munich career reaching a quiet end at the FIFA Club World Cup, with the veteran forward choosing to sidestep farewell fanfare in the wake of teammate Jamal Musiala's devastating injury.
The 35-year-old, who has made 756 appearances in Bayern colors, had hinted in recent days that he was ready to walk away from the only club he's ever known.
Muller had reportedly hoped to extend his Bayern deal, but the club declined, prompting speculation about a move to Major League Soccer. An offer from Los Angeles FC is said to be on the table, though Muller remains noncommittal as reported by Xinhua.
Across his career, Muller won 13 Bundesliga titles and six German Cups with Bayern, scoring 250 goals and providing 283 assists along the way. He is the top German scorer in UEFA Champions League history, with 57 goals in the competition.

Nico Hulkenberg Ends Record Drought With Career-First F1 Podium At Silverstone

Last Updated: Nico Hulkenberg ended his record of most F1 starts without a podium by finishing third at the British Grand Prix, moving from 19th to third in chaotic weather. Nico Hulkenberg finally ended one of Formula 1's most unfortunate records, delivering a stunning drive from 19th on the grid to secure his maiden podium finish — at his 239th Grand Prix start. Driving for the underdog Kick Sauber team, Hulkenberg defied all odds and adverse weather conditions to claim third place at a wet and wild Silverstone. The German, long known as the driver with the most F1 starts without a top-three finish, turned that narrative on its head in unforgettable fashion. Finally… Nico steps onto the podium! 🥹 #F1 #BritishGP — Formula 1 (@F1) July 6, 2025 Making his debut in 2010, Hulkenberg's wait has spanned over a decade. But on Sunday, the 37-year-old finally stood where he had always dreamed — on the podium. 'Good. It's been a long time coming, hasn't it?" Hulkenberg said with a smile during his post-race interview with Jenson Button. 'But I always knew we have it in us — I have it in me — somewhere. What a race. Coming from virtually last, doing it all over again from last weekend. It's pretty surreal, to be honest. I'm not sure how it all happened, but obviously crazy, mixed conditions." Masterclass in Chaos The British Grand Prix saw treacherous and unpredictable weather wreak havoc across the grid. But Hulkenberg kept his cool, making smart strategy calls and executing decisive overtakes as the rain came and went. Behind them, Hulkenberg's gritty charge through the field culminated in a dramatic battle with Lewis Hamilton, ultimately denying the British star a record-extending 13th consecutive Silverstone podium. 'I was thinking that he's going to give it his all here, in front of his home crowd," Hulkenberg said of Hamilton. 'And I was like, sorry guys, but it's also my day. I got to stick my neck out." A Long-Awaited Moment After years of near-misses and frustration, Hulkenberg's resilience was finally rewarded in front of a packed Silverstone crowd. 'Super happy. And thank you very much for the great energy and support here every year," he said to the fans, visibly moved. First Published: July 06, 2025, 22:37 IST
