Police seeking help to identify man charged with six counts of fraud in Queensland
Police from the Ferny Grove Criminal Investigation Branch in Queensland released an image of the 32-year-old man, who has been charged with six counts of fraud, and one count each of attempted fraud, stealing, receiving tainted property, dealing with identification information, forgery, possessing false foreign travel documents and contravene police requirement.
Though the man identified himself to police as Paul Sorin Kimpian, he is also believed to go by the names Roman Janecek and Jean Paul Fontaine.
He is described as being of Romanian appearance, approximately 184cm tall, with balding dark brown hair and a moustache, and is believed to frequent the Brisbane and Gold Coast regions and travel via public transport. Police said he may also have recently been in Cairns.
Mr Kimpian's matter was heard at Brisbane Arrests Court on Thursday, with Legal Aid lawyer Ollie Labone telling Magistrate Aaron Simpson his client was seeking a lengthy plea date.
'He doesn't have any Australian history but I assume the circumstances will require a lengthier plea than normal,' Mr Labone said.
The court also heard that Mr Kimpian – whose fraud matter relates to as much as $10,000 or $12,000 – is wanted overseas.
'There's an international extradition that will likely be waiting on him, he's skipped bail in America,' he said.
Police have put in a request to obtain his American history.
Anyone with information that may assist ongoing investigations, including the man's identity and residence, or anyone connected to him, is encouraged to contact police.
Police also encouraged anyone who notices fraudulent transactions on their accounts to notify their financial institution immediately, then report the matter to police and seek any personal support they may need.
The matter was adjourned to September 11.

Queensland police are investigating after a child was allegedly injured at a Cairns childcare centre last week. Police said initial information suggested a child "sustained minor injuries" at the Mayfield Early Education centre on Fretwell Road in the Cairns suburb of White Rock last Thursday. A Mayfield Early Education spokesperson said a worker at the centre was stood down after the alleged incident on Thursday and the employee was fired on Friday. A spokesman for the Queensland Department of Education said the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority was undertaking an investigation and had referred the allegation to Queensland police. "The safety and protection of all children in Queensland early childhood education and care services is our number one priority," the spokesman said. "Where steps are inadequate to ensure the health and safety of children, the Queensland Early Childhood Regulatory Authority does not hesitate to take robust and appropriate action, including prohibition and prosecution."

Man, 59, charged by AFP after allegedly assaulting cabin crew over bathroom dispute on Brisbane-bound plane
A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting an airline crew member on a Brisbane-bound flight over an on-board toilet dispute. In a statement, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said the man was charged after a response was made to the AFP for assistance on July 14. It is alleged the man, 59, refused instructions to take his seat by the flight crew as the flight, travelling from Perth Airport to Brisbane, was preparing for departure. The man allegedly wanted to use the bathroom and pushed a crew member. The incident was reported to the flight captain, who requested the AFP attend the gate and remove the man from the plane. AFP officers removed the man, who was allegedly uncooperative with police. He has been charged with one count of assaulting a crew member, contrary to section 318A of the Criminal Code (WA), which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years' imprisonment if convicted. The 59-year-old faced Perth Magistrates Court on July 29. AFP Inspector Peter Brindal said airline crew members worked to ensure a safe journey for all travellers and any aggressive or violent behaviour towards them was unacceptable. 'The AFP has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to the assault or mistreatment of airline staff, and anyone who commits such an offence can be prosecuted,' Inspector Brindal said.
