Apple launches new emoji word game to take on Wordle and the NYT
It's called simply Emoji Game, and each day you're presented with three phrases, which have some letters filled in, but are mostly blank. There's a partial hint as to what the word or phrase is that you're trying to complete, and then a whole bunch of emoji at the bottom. The idea is to take the words or sounds the emoji represent and use them to fill in the blanks. So — and this is just an example I made up, so it's not a spoiler — you might be presented with SH_ _ _, and an emoji of an elf. Stick it in there and you have a 'shelf.'
It's a novel twist on word games, which have become ubiquitous online over the last three years. It's really forced me to use my brain in a different way, though I'm not sure if I enjoy it just yet. Maybe once it becomes a routine. That said, it's nice that there doesn't appear to be a fail state; when you guess wrong there's no real punishment, though the game does count the number of moves it takes you to complete each puzzle, so there is a competitive element. The most recent few puzzles are also free to play, so you can get a feel for it even if you don't currently have an Apple News Plus subscription. (It's currently available only in the US and Canada.)
The Emoji Game is a small daily diversion, and one that points to the fascinating innovation and experimentation happening in the word game space. After Wordle and the subsequent rush of clones, there hasn't really been a word game that has gone viral in the same way, and so designers are crafting interesting new twists on the formula to stand out. The idea is that you don't necessarily need one blockbuster hit, but instead a varied collection that will keep folks coming back daily. Puzzmo, for instance, has steadily grown since it launched, with everything from an accessible crossword to a weather-based take on sudoku. It just launched an experimental word game called Missing Link that's like an elevated take on word search puzzles.
As subscriptions continue to become an established part of modern life — no shade — these sorts of daily games have proven to be a successful retention tactic. Habits are hard to break, and that's especially true when they provide a brief, welcome respite in the form of clever word play. Or emoji.

The shares have lost 1.4% since July start and in this appearance, the CNBC host discussed how analyst upgrades were failing to inject momentum into the stock. Previously, Cramer has shared optimism for The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS)'s streaming service and remarked that CEO Bob Iger has managed to turn around the firm's fortune. He also believes that the firm's theme park and cruise ship businesses merit a deeper look. Here are his latest thoughts: '[On higher targets for Disney over last couple of weeks] Yes and it's not working. My trust owns this. We've got several including comments about how linear TV's not down [inaudible] and the stock doesn't move. And I think the stock doesn't move because people [inaudible] it's a showman stock. People want to see Plus numbers and see that they're really is a breakout. Because there's been so much distrust about anything that's involved with linear. No one seems to get their way until they see the numbers. I think the numbers are gonna come through and the stock is going to look cheap. I'm a believer.' A packed theater of moviegoers watching a blockbuster film produced by the entertainment company. Previously, Cramer discussed The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS)'s valuation: 'Okay, Disney's had a real rip-snorting rally from the bottom, but it's still only up 6.8%. It's got a good movie slate coming, only sells at 20 times earnings, and the theme parks are doing incredibly well. I think the answer is absolutely. DC Studios Reportedly Searching for an Unknown Mediterranean Actress to Play DCU's Wonder Woman — GeekTyrant
DC Studios appears to be moving quickly on its next big superhero projects after the success of Superman , and Wonder Woman is one of the films at top of the list. Recent reports suggest the studio is fast-tracking a new film centered on Diana, which could make it the next DCU movie to roll into production after Clayface . A writer is already working on the script, and if this project is now a major priority for Warner Bros. and DC, it's not hard to imagine that casting could be underway. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic, the studio is reportedly on the hunt for an unknown actress to take on the role of Wonder Woman. Sneider shared: 'I've asked around to see if they might want to go an unexpected route by possibly casting someone Black or Latina, and was told it would more than likely be someone of Mediterranean descent — but a Black actress may wind up playing the lead in the Paradise Lost Max series.' This approach makes sense for James Gunn's vision of the DCU. Gunn has been open about introducing fresh faces into iconic roles rather than relying on established A-list stars. Of course, 'unknown' doesn't necessarily mean completely new to the screen, but fans hoping for popular picks like Melissa Barrera or Adria Arjona might be disappointed if this report holds true. Speculation about Arjona heated up recently when fans noticed Gunn following the Andor star on social media. Gunn quickly addressed the rumor, saying, 'You know, I follow Adria on Instagram. And everyone came out, 'He just followed her. That means she's Wonder Woman.' She'd be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. But she was in a movie I made, seven years ago. We've been friends and have known each other since that time. So, I followed her then, I didn't just follow her [recently].' If these reports are accurate, who will step into the boots and tiara of the DCU's Wonder Woman? A Mediterranean actress makes sense for Diana's origins, and casting an unknown talent could give the character a fresh start. For now, fans will have to wait and see who emerges as the new face of the Amazonian warrior.

Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Confirms Who Will Direct the X-MEN Film Reboot — GeekTyrant
Marvel boss Kevin Feige has done a good job of choosing filmmakers, actors, writers and crew members to tell the comic book stories we all love over the past 17 years. We have some fun films coming up as we move through the MCU's sixth phase, and one that fans are looking forward to is the reboot of X-Men . Little is known about the film, except that it will be the main focus after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars , which will hit theatres in December 2027. Now we have a little more info on who will be behind the camera, bringing the film to life. Feige confirmed to Comic Book, while making the rounds for The Fantastic Four: First Steps , that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier will be helming the X-Men reboot. Feige said, 'It's official, Jake Schreier is doing X-Men for us, and we're very, very lucky to have him and very excited to have him. And so we're beginning. It's all starting now. The script's underway.' The producer confirmed that the positive response to Thunderbolts* played a role in Schreier getting this gig, but his faith in the director extends beyond that. He went on to add, 'Jake's an incredibly smart guy, and he's an incredibly talented filmmaker. We had a great experience with him on Thunderbolts* . And if you saw that movie, what he did with those character interactions, he also has his pulse on, shall we say, a younger demographic. He's younger than me for sure, but he's tapped into that in a way that I think was important for Thunderbolts* , much more important for X-Men . Because X-Men , as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.' I think this is a great match, and I can't wait to see what Schreier does with these beloved characters. Stay tuned for more updates.
