Jammu and Kashmir valley remained shut for the first time in 35 years on Wednesday in protest against Tuesday's macabre terror attack in south Kashmir's Pahalgam. Terrorists struck at a prime tourist location and killed at least 30 people, mostly tourists. Most shops, fuel stations, schools and other business establishments were shut in Srinagar, while outlets dealing in essential commodities were open across the city. The effect of the shutdown was also witnessed in the other district headquarters of the valley. The shut down protest was called by several political parties, socio-religious organisations, trade bodies, and civil society groups. The city was left in shock even as fear-psychosis has set in. The hugely condemnable dastardly act has left the valley in utter chaos.

Time Centre calls spade a spade
This is regarding the massacre of tourists by terrorists in Pahalgam. Ironically, whenever violence and large-scale incidents of killings are reported from any part of the country, the Centre asserts in double-quick time that these are unacceptable and vows to wipe out such menaces. Alas, no rigorous retaliation takes place from our side and no concrete results come out; this has been going on for years together. Till date, we have lost innumerable security men and civilians. We must help ourselves as no other nation is going to help us in controlling militancy. The Modi government at the centre should leave no stone unturned in identifying the perpetrators and hanging them. This would be a potent deterrent. After all, we can't let our innocent people die like this.

Killing of tourists is a heinous act
The killing of tourists in Pahalgam is a heinous cowardly inhuman act that the terrorists have indulged in. Mahatma Gandhi always suggested that peaceful negotiations were the only meaningful humane way out. It is self-defeating for J&K because it will lose precious tourism revenue. The top grade infrastructure that are put in place by the authorities are brought down ruthlessly by the trigger-happy barbaric elements, who don't believe in humanity.

Terrorism raises its ugly head in J&K
After several years, the state of Jammu & Kashmir has once again come under terror attacks. The brutal killing of tourists, including foreigners, is an inhuman act that is not only condemnable but one that should be dealt with an iron hand. It is a serious setback to tourism and development of Jammu & Kashmir. In the interest of the state's economy, its people must launch a civic movement and rally in support of the security forces, the brave-hearts who are fighting the terrorists.

Ensure safe and secure Amarnath Yatra
It's heartbreaking that terrorists mercilessly killed 26 tourists, including three foreigners, in Pahalgam, which is unpardonable. No amount of consolation or compensation can alleviate the agony of the bereaved families. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi rightly emphasized those behind this heinous crime should not be spared. Meanwhile, Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to start from Pahalgam on July 3, now poses an additional concern for devotees. The government must take stringent measures to ensure the pilgrims' safety and security. The nation demands justice for the Pahalgam victims and their families. The perpetrators must be brought to book and punished severely.

Family of Pahalgam terror attack victim finds solace following ‘Operation Mahadev'
Bengaluru: For the family of Bharath Bushan, who was killed in the Pahalgam attack, the news of the killing of the mastermind of the attack and his associates in 'Operation Mahadev' has brought a sense of relief. Bushan was among the 26 people killed in front of their families after confirming their religious identity in Pahalgam on April 22. Most of those killed by terrorists were tourists. Speaking to PTI videos on Tuesday, Bushan's father Chennaveerappa said the killing of his son in the terror attack was a 'very barbarous act'. The killing of terrorists has definitely brought some solace to the grieving families who lost their sons. Lauding the Modi government for its efforts, he said, 'Hereafter, I think the government should ensure that no terrorists enter our land and kill innocent people... This should not happen again and the government should make sure that military personnel are posted in such areas...' He said deploying army personnel at the tourist spot could have prevented the attack and 26 precious lives could have been saved. Calling for an end to cross-border terrorism, he said, 'The government should be alert and avoid cross border terrorism and they have to see that Pakistan learns a lesson in this regard. Of course Modi has done a good work. He killed terrorists... he informed the whole world that we are against terrorism.' Though Bushan's brother, Preetham, was relieved that the terrorists were eliminated, he lamented that nothing could bring his brother back. 'We are not going to get my brother back but I am very sure that the government and the armed forces have eliminated such evil people who would cause such kind of trauma for many other families so from that perspective, we are very happy that such kind of people who did brutal killing of innocent tourists have been eliminated,' he said.

Himachal Gov Shukla briefs PM on disaster loss, anti-drug campaign
Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Tuesday apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the impact of recent rain-induced disasters in the state and also the progress of the 'Drug-Free Himachal' campaign. Shukla, who met PM in Delhi, briefed him about the extensive damage caused by the cloudbursts and landslides in Mandi district this monsoon season. Several tragic incidents of cloudbursts have resulted in the loss of lives and widespread destruction of property and many families have been rendered homeless and have lost their agricultural land, the governor said. Prime Minister Modi assured that all possible assistance would be extended to provide relief and rehabilitation to the affected families. Briefing Modi about the anti-drug campaign, which is being implemented up to the panchayat level, Shukla said that significant steps have been taken to create awareness against substance abuse and to build community participation to make Himachal a drug-free state. He also shared details of the recently held three-day national conference titled 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat' organized by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in Kashi, Uttar Pradesh which would help in making a drug-free society by 2047. The Governor assured that the principles of the Kashi Declaration would be earnestly implemented as part of the broader Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
