Smyrna police respond to 'active shooter' near Lee Victory Parkway
Several police cruisers and first responder vehicles remained in the area, blocking off access to passersby shortly before 3 p.m.
Smyrna police confirmed via Facebook around 2 p.m. July 15 that an active shooter situation was happening in the city and asked residents to avoid the area.

Police update after six arrested in Newport incident
Police have provided an update on last week's incident in Newport, which led to the arrests of six people. As previously reported, Hampshire and IW Constabulary was called to Nelson Road at 4.22pm last Thursday (July 24). Police responded to reports of a suspicious incident involving a person climbing over the garden fence of an address. A 17-year-old was subsequently arrested. An officer was assaulted during the incident, the force said, but was not injured. "Attending officers also located some cannabis at the address", a spokesperson said. Police have provided the following update: 16-year-old girl – released with no further action. 39-year-old man – released from custody but remains under investigation. 57-year-old woman – released from custody but remains under investigation. 28-year-old man – released from custody but remains under investigation. 37-year-old man – released from custody but remains under investigation for possession with intent to supply Class B drugs. He will face no further action in relation to obstructing/resisting a constable.

Police make huge find after searching 'suspicious' man in Piccadilly Gardens
Police made a huge find after stopping and searching a 'suspicious' man in Piccadilly Gardens on Saturday night (July 26). Officers were on patrol in the city centre as part of GMP's Operation Custodian when they identified a man in the gardens. The force said he was 'behaving suspiciously'. After he was approached, he was then searched which later revealed a number of small snap bags and a quantity of cocaine. A GMP statement continued: "This swift action highlights the ongoing efforts of the police to combat drug-related crime and ensure the safety of our communities. Homeowners worried after several late-night arson attacks
An appeal has been launched after several arson incidents took place on one road. Pipers Close, in Haverhill, has been a target for four arson incidents in four weeks. Homeowners are concerned and police are looking for those responsible. In the first incident, a wheelie bin and 15ft of fencing were set on fire just before midnight on June 21. READ MORE: Number of Ipswich Town fans arrested last season revealed In the second incident on July 12 at 2.04am, a stationary, unattended trailer parked in a parking area was set alight. The third incident saw a wheelie bin set alight close to a home on July 14 at 12.10am. The final incident involved a garden gate and fence set on fire sometime between 3.15am and 3.28am on July 23. Suffolk police confirmed "numerous" inquiries had been made and evidence has been found, but no suspect/s identified.
