The Bangladesh Police on Tuesday submitted a chargesheet to the Chittagong court against 38 people, including Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, in connection with the killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif.
On Nov 26 last year, the court denied bail to Das in a separate sedition case, ordering his detention. Following the hearing, at least 20 people were injured in violent clashes between his supporters and law enforcement personnel near the court premises, during which Saiful was hacked to death. Out of the 38 people named in the chargesheet, 20, including Das, are in custody, while the remaining are absconding. The chargesheet was submitted to the court's prosecution wing.

Call for reclaiming India's role as ‘Vishwaguru'

The National Hindu Dharmic Conference held here adopted resolutions aimed at 'safeguarding and revitalising Hindu traditions and temple governance.' The conference, organised by Sadhu Parishad here on Wednesday (July 2), called for the immediate revocation of all controversial Government Orders (G.O.s) that adversely affect temple administration. It was strongly recommended that only religiously committed individuals (Dhārmikas) be appointed to temple trust boards to ensure faith-based leadership. One of the major proposals was to declare Tirupati as a spiritual city, alongside implementing a strict ban on alcohol and meat consumption within its limits. To preserve cultural integrity, the government was urged to extend full protection to Hindu festivals and religious processions. The conference, presided over by Srinivasananda Saraswati Swamiji, adopted another resolution emphasising the need to declare cow as India's national animal and establish goshalas (cow shelters) in every village, preferably on temple land. In addition, barren land should be utilised exclusively for cultivating fodder for cows. Educational reforms were also highlighted, including a call to open new institutions under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in every district. Moreover, the TTD was urged to run its own goshalas and to use ghee from those cows in the preparation of laddus, thereby maintaining spiritual purity and self-sufficiency. Additional proposals included government funding for ashram maintenance and the removal of government employees who converted after obtaining employment based on caste reservation. BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav emphasised the need to position Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) as a global spiritual beacon, saying that despite India's immense spiritual wealth, over 80% of the world remains unaware of its dharmic depth. 'India is poised to reclaim its ancient role as 'Vishwaguru', the spiritual guide of the world.' Citing the recent International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, where lakhs of participants chanted 'Om' in unison, Mr. Madhav lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in bringing dharmic consciousness back to the forefront of global discourse. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) State president Vabilishetty Venkateshwarlu, VHP organisational secretary Ravi Kumar and others spoke.

‘Silent emergency': TN BJP on cases against Murugan devotees meet participants

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the ruling DMK government of imposing a 'silent emergency' in the state, following police action against participants of the Murugan Devotees' Conference held in Madurai last month. BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad strongly condemned the filing of police cases against several leaders, including Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran, former party chief K. Annamalai, and Hindu Munnani leader Kadeswara Subramanian. The cases were registered in connection with their participation in the June 22nd devotional gathering, which saw the attendance of over 5 lakh devotees. Prasad questioned the rationale behind the police action, stating that the event was conducted in an exceptionally peaceful and disciplined manner. 'Even critics of the BJP in the media had to acknowledge the flawless organisation of the event. There were no law-and-order issues, no traffic disruptions, and no reports of public inconvenience. Devotees even cleaned the venue themselves after the event,' he said. He alleged that the DMK government had remained silent for 10 days before launching a politically motivated crackdown aimed at appeasing minority vote banks, using the pretext of 'external instigation.' Prasad said the state's law and order situation had deteriorated drastically under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's leadership. 'There is growing fear that Tamil Nadu is descending into lawlessness, where the police act like gangs of thugs. Even the DMK's own MLA, Inigo Irudayaraj, has publicly stated that 'police turned into beasts' and beat temple guard Ajithkumar to death.' The alleged custodial death of Ajithkumar in Sivaganga district has further fuelled criticism of the government. Initially, the state attempted to downplay the incident, but video footage of the police assault and scathing remarks from the Madras High Court forced a CBI inquiry. 'The DMK government's response has been mere theatrics - with a minister sent for damage control and the Chief Minister making a staged phone call to the victim's family,' said Prasad. The BJP also slammed the DMK for what it called 'anti-Hindu' actions and rhetoric. Prasad pointed to recent remarks by DMK Deputy General Secretary and former Union Minister A. Raja, who allegedly used derogatory language against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Protests against Raja erupted across the state, and during one such demonstration at Chepauk in Chennai, BJP State Vice President Narayanan Thirupathi was allegedly manhandled and arrested. The BJP also accused the police of brutality against women protestors, alleging multiple human rights violations. 'Since Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the AIADMK-BJP alliance and visited Tamil Nadu twice, the DMK has lost its peace of mind,' said Prasad. 'Fearing defeat in the upcoming Assembly elections, the ruling party has resorted to suppressive tactics and widespread intimidation,' he added. The BJP has demanded that the state government immediately withdraw what it calls 'false cases' and restore democratic norms. 'The people of Tamil Nadu are watching. In this age of social media, truth cannot be hidden. The consequences of this authoritarianism will soon be reflected in the ballot boxes,' Prasad warned.

Rajnath Singh Slams Oppn For 'Crocodile Tears' Over CAA, Cites Hindu Persecution In Bangladesh

Last Updated: Rajnath Singh accused the opposition of double standards, saying they vehemently opposed the CAA while constantly shedding "crocodile tears" for minorities. Amid concerns over the treatment of minority communities in India's neighbouring countries, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday slammed the opposition parties for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) when it was introduced. Rajnath Singh accused the opposition of double standards, saying they vehemently opposed the CAA while constantly shedding 'crocodile tears" for minorities. 'Seeing the atrocities inflicted on minority communities in neighbouring countries, our government passed the CAA, which was opposed the most by those political parties that shed crocodile tears for minorities day and night," Singh said. The Defence Minister addressed BJP workers at the party's state executive meeting in Patna, delivering a morale-boosting speech ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Referring specifically to Bangladesh, Singh added, 'The situation in Bangladesh is getting quite bad. What is happening to the Hindu community there is nothing less than a stain on the forehead of any civilised society." The remarks come against the backdrop of disturbing reports of increasing violence and systemic discrimination against Hindus in Bangladesh. The government has faced criticism in recent years over the CAA, with opposition parties alleging it discriminates on religious lines. However, Singh reiterated that the Act is intended purely as a humanitarian measure to offer refuge to persecuted minorities from countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. The CAA, enacted in December 2019, allows non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who entered India before December 31, 2014, to apply for Indian citizenship. While it has sparked widespread political and public debate, the government has maintained it is a targeted response to a humanitarian crisis, not a violation of secular principles.
