Liverpool's spectacular free art biennial opens next month – everything you need to know
Known as the Liverpool Biennial, the art fest is one of the reasons we ranked the city as one of the places you just have to visit in 2025. So, here's everything you need to know about the three-month-long event.
What is the Liverpool Biennial?
Only the largest free festival of contemporary art in the country. This year's Liverpool art biennial will be its 13th edition. For 2025, its theme is 'BEDROCK', inspired by the sandstone that spans the region and features in its architecture. Organisers say that the title also 'acts as a metaphor for the unique social foundations of Liverpool, haunted by empire, and the people, places and values that ground us'.
The whole thing has been curated by Marie-Anne McQuay, the head of programme at Liverpool gallery Bluecoat. It'll showcase 30 artists and collectives with 22 brand new artworks commissioned especially for the event.
When is the Liverpool Biennial 2025?
It'll be taking place throughout the city from June 7 to September 14.
Where can I see the art at Liverpool Biennial?
The festival will be spread across 18 venues in the city. As part of the Liverpool Biennial 2025, you'll be able to see art, for free, at:
Albert Dock

What art will be at the Liverpool Biennial 2025?
Artists from all over the world will be showing their work. There will be a spectacular steel structure by Isabel Nolan at St John's Gardens, mosaic sculptures by Petros Moris and 'glass collages' by Ana Navas at Liverpool Cathedral, as well as at Bluecoat and Walker Art Gallery and a multi-layered gallery installation at Bluecoat by Alice Rekavb. The super tall family who spent £10million just to fit in their house
An exceptionally tall family has found themselves with no other choice but to spend millions to build a house that is big enough for them to fit inside - after years of knocking their heads While some people pray to be taller, for one family their towering height has brought nothing but trouble. Measuring between 6ft 3ins and 6ft 10ins, for the Temeras, even everyday tasks like taking a bath pose problems because they can't fit into a standard size tub. Getting through doorways without banging their heads is a constant annoyance, and taking a shower under a standard-sized head is no mean feat either. Now, the family has decided to take matters into their own hands and build a home they can all fit into, but it won't come cheap at a cost of £10million. Their ability to go the "extra mile" and create a mega-mansion for the whole family is down to daughter Marie's success as a TikTok model who brings in £7.5 million every year. At 6ft 3ins tall, she's a foot taller than the average UK woman. Woman, 25, says boyfriend, 76, is her 'soulmate' and blasts people calling it 'disgusting' 'Brits have work affairs all the time and cheating was the best thing I ever did' Mum Christine, 63, - who stands at 6ft 5 - is a retired 911 operator, and dad Michael, 65, is 6ft 3, and formerly worked as an electrician. The model also has two basketballer brothers, Troy, 27, who stands at 6ft 10in and Shane, 29, who reaches 6ft 9in. Currently, Marie lives in a £1.5 million property in Florida, with her parents living right next door in a £500,000 house that she bought them thanks to her success. But they're so sick of injuring themselves in their unsuitable homes that they're planning to knock both down and build one that is fit for purpose. "We're going the extra mile to make our home more comfortable to live in,' Marie explained 'Our houses are way too small for us because the ceilings are eight feet tall so we're going to knock them down. "We're always touching the door frames, banging our heads, and having to duck," Marie, who has three million followers on Instagram, explains about life in a normal-sized home. "The toilets and showers are too low, we have to crouch down to wash our hair and the baths are too small to lie down in. We're going to have the ceilings and doors as tall as they can go and all the space we need." Marie admits that sometimes things were "pretty hard" financially for the family - she also has two incredibly tall brothers, Troy, 27, and Shane, 29, who are 6ft 10 and 6ft 9 respectively. "We didn't have that much money growing up, so we couldn't afford to make the house bigger like I can now. My brothers would smack their heads going down the stairs every time. "The houses we lived in were from the seventies, so we were hitting our heads on ceilings, and everything was too low, including the toilets and shower heads. We all had that problem growing up. "We are looking forward to having a home where we don't have to hunch, crouch, or worry about hitting our heads every time we walk through a room." The model added, "Dad was an electrician, and he barely made anything. He made £26,000 a year, and my mom was an emergency operator, so she didn't make much more than that. "It was pretty hard, but they did a really good job of giving us everything that we'd ever needed. They just never had any money to buy anything for themselves." However, after decades of her parents putting their children's needs before their own, she is thrilled to be able to return the favour, and create the megamansion for the supersized family that they have always dreamed of. "So they really put us first. It will be nice to do this for them; they deserve it. This is something we've talked about for years, and I'm grateful I can finally make it happen for my family." Marie explains that her family is "happy" about her career and they have been able to retire thanks to the big bucks she is bringing in. 'My family is very grateful and happy for me and my career; they even star in some of my videos on TikTok," she says. The plan is for the whole family of five to move into the custom mansion that Marie will have built, and never knock their heads whilst going about their days again.

OnlyFans model builds £10m mansion with 25ft ceilings for her super tall family
Marie Temara is 6ft 3in, an entire foot taller than the average woman in the UK, while her mum Christine, 63, is 6ft 5in and her dad Michael, 65, is 6ft 3in. A family of five who are so tall that they bump their heads on doorframes are building a supersized £10m mansion with 25ft ceilings and 12ft doors. Marie Temara is 6ft 3in, an entire foot taller than the average woman in the UK, while her mum Christine, 63, is 6ft 5in and her dad Michael, 65, is 6ft 3in. The model also has two basketballer brothers, Troy, 27, who stands at 6ft 10in and Shane, 29, who reaches 6ft 9in. The family have become so sick of banging their heads while moving around their respective homes that they are now planning on knocking their houses down and building a towering mansion to live in together. "We're going the extra mile to make our home more comfortable to live in," Marie, who has 3m followers on Instagram, @marietemara, said. "Our houses are way too small for us because the ceilings are eight feet tall so we're going to knock them down. We're always touching the door frames, banging our heads and having to duck. "The toilets and showers are too low, we have to crouch down to wash our hair and the baths are too small to lie down in. We're going to have the ceilings and doors as tall as they can go and all the space we need." Marie, from Florida, US, currently lives in a £1.5m house with 8ft ceilings and a £75,000 gym that the fitness fanatic had installed herself. Meanwhile, retired 911 operator Christine and retired electrician Michael live in a £500,000 property next door. But because they weren't always wealthy, the family have always lived in homes unsuitable to their lofty heights. That's set to change following Marie's success on OnlyFans, which she joined in 2021. The adult star made £110,000 in her first month and now rakes in £7.5m per year. As a result, Marie has been able to help her parents retire and even bought them their current home. She also plans to fork out for the new mansion out of her earnings from the site. She said: "We didn't have that much money growing up, so we couldn't afford to make the house bigger like I can now. My brothers would smack their heads going down the stairs every time. "The houses we lived in were from the seventies, so we were hitting our heads on ceilings, and everything was too low, including the toilets and shower heads. We all had that problem growing up. Prime Video shares poignant tribute to star killed in crash in new trailer for hit show
The new season is set to feature some major cameos from the main show Prime Video has unveiled a fresh glimpse at the second series of their near flawless superhero spin-off show including a tribute to a late star who died last year. The forthcoming instalment of Gen V is slated to arrive on the streaming platform later this year. From 17th September, new episodes of The Boys spin-off will be accessible. Season one boasts an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%, with one critic hailing it as 'simply extraordinary'. Now, fans have been given an even better sneak peek, with a significant cameo from one of the main show's cast members revealed, reports the Express. Gen V delves into the lives of students attending America's only college exclusively for young adult superheroes (supes) run by Vought International. The series probes the lives and moral boundaries of these students as they vie for the top ranking and a chance to join The Seven, Vought's elite superhero team as seen in The Boys. However, in the first series, the students begin to unearth the university's darkest and deepest secrets. The upcoming series of Gen V will introduce pivotal events and revelations that feed directly into the final chapter of The Boys. Its first three episodes premiere 17th September, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The trailer also appears to feature a poignant tribute to star Chance Perdomo, who tragically perished in a motorcycle accident before filming commenced at just 27 years old. The show's creators chose not to recast his character from the first series and completely rewrote the second season. In the fresh teaser, one character honours his role by declaring: "For Andre." According to the programme's synopsis, lessons resume just as the remainder of America adapts to Homelander's authoritarian grip, whilst back at Godolkin University, the enigmatic new Dean advocates a syllabus that vows to make pupils more formidable than ever before. Cate and Sam are hailed as heroes, whilst Marie, Jordan, and Emma grudgingly return to university, weighed down by months of psychological scars and bereavement. However, festivities and lectures become difficult to prioritise with conflict brewing between Humans and Supes, both within and beyond the campus grounds. The group discovers a clandestine programme dating back to Godolkin University's establishment that could have far more significant consequences than they comprehend. And Marie plays a crucial part in it. The second series features Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer, Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap, London Thor as Jordan Li, Derek Luh as Jordan Li, Asa Germann as Sam Riordan, Sean Patrick Thomas as Polarity and Hamish Linklater as Dean Cipher. The preview, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, revealed a surprise appearance by beloved The Boys actor Chace Crawford who portrays The Deep and confirmed the casting of Wicked star Ethan Slater, who will become a main cast member. Also glimpsed in the trailer making a brief appearance is Erin Moriarty, who portrays Annie January, better known as Starlight. The programme faces considerable expectations following the first season's success, which garnered glowing critiques. One reviewer declared: " Prime Video's new series is just as brilliant as the original, and it's also a demonstration that the superhero genre still has a lot to say." Enthusiasts are already buzzing about what the guest appearances and special cameos could signify for both the spin-off and original programme. One fan wrote: " I like that 'Starlight is now canonically leading this underground resistance post President-Homelander. And I love that we're finally properly 'crossing over both shows!" Another commented: " Very cool to see Starlight and Noir." Whilst a third observed: "For Andre" hit hard. Chance Perdomo will be missed.". Gen V season two launches on Prime Video from September 17
