Denis Villeneuve to direct next James Bond film
Amazon MGM Studios announced Wednesday that Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond movie.
The untitled film will be the first since the studio took creative reins of the storied film franchise after decades of control by the Broccoli family.

Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman had maintained that before the next Bond is cast, they would develop a screenplay and find a director first.
Now, they have one of the most respected blockbuster makers in Hollywood, who's coming off a pair of widely acclaimed 'Dune' films.
In a statement, the 57-year-old French Canadian filmmaker said he grew up watching Bond movies.
'I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory,' said Villeneuve. 'I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor.'
Since taking creative control of Bond in February, Amazon MGM has worked quickly to get the next movie going.
The studio is also trying to win over fans skeptical of the new corporate leadership and the fearful of future spinoffs.

'James Bond is in the hands of one of today's greatest filmmakers,' said Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.
With Pascal and Heyman lodged as producers and Villeneuve behind the camera, the next Bond movie will have an enviable brain trust. Villeneuve beat out a field of directors floated for the movie including Edward Berger ('Conclave'), Paul King ('Paddington 2″), Edgar Wright ('Baby Driver') and Jonathan Nolan, co-creator of 'Westworld' and brother to Christopher Nolan.
'Denis Villeneuve has been in love with James Bond movies since he was a little boy,' said Pascal and Heyman. 'It was always his dream to make this movie, and now it's ours, too.'
4 Daniel Craig was the most recent actor to play James Bond.

No release date has been announced for the next Bond movie.
Villeneuve will shoot the third 'Dune' film this summer.
If production on Bond began next year, a release sometime in 2027 would be likely.
Villenevue's first two 'Dune' films have together surpassed $1 billion in box office worldwide and been nominated for a combined 15 Academy Awards, winning seven.
His other films include 'Blade Runner 2049,' 'Arrival,' 'Sicario,' 'Prisoners,' 'Enemy' and 'Incendies.'
Amazon bought MGM Studios in 2022 for $8.5 billion, but didn't gain creative control of the studio's most prized asset until this year. Until this film, every Bond director has been handpicked by the Broccolis.

Talking to Deadline at CinemaCon in April, Garfield praised Guadagnino's spontaneous but laser focused approach on set. 'What was exciting and surprising about being with Luca on set was how loose he is, how relaxed he is, how kind of spontaneous, in the moment and totally focused when he needs to be, but he seems to be allowing the day and the scene and the moment to be found,' said Garfield. 'He's such a precise filmmaker, simultaneously, so I found that deeply surprising.' Producers on After the Hunt are Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum for Imagine Entertainment and Call Me By Your Name Oscar nominee Guadagnino under his Frenesy banner. Garrett also exec produces along with Imagine's Karen Lunder. The feature launches October 10. Barack Obama, Michelle Share Update on Divorce Rumors—'Hard Times'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, shared an update on divorce rumors during a new episode of her podcast. Newsweek reached out to the Obamas' representative via email for comment on Wednesday. The Context Barack Obama was the 44th President of the United States and served two terms from 2009 until 2017. The former president, 63, and former first lady, 61, got married on October 3, 1992 and share two children together: daughters Malia Obama, 27, and Sasha Obama, 24. At the start of this year, Michelle Obama did not attend former President Jimmy Carter's state funeral, and she skipped out on President Donald Trump's inauguration, too. Meghan McCain—the daughter of the late Republican Senator John McCain—added fuel to the fire on her Citizen McCain podcast, claiming she heard rumors that they were splitting up "by reputable people." What To Know On Wednesday's episode of IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson—which Michelle Obama co-hosts with her older brother, Craig Robinson—Barack Obama appeared as a guest, and the spouses addressed their relationship. Kristoffer Tripplaar-Pool/Getty Images "Welcome to IMO, look at you," Michelle Obama said to her husband, to which Robinson teased: "Wait, you guys like each other?" "Oh yeah really, huh. That's the rumor mill," the Becoming author replied. "It's my husband, y'all." "She took me back!" Barack Obama joked, which prompted his wife to say: "Now don't start." "It was touch and go for a while," the politician playfully added. As the trio laughed, Robinson chimed in: "It's so nice to have you both in the same room." "I know because when we aren't, folks think we're divorced," Michelle Obama said. Later on in the podcast, she further shut down any rumors. "There hasn't been one moment in our marriage where I've thought about quitting my man, and we've had some really hard times," the attorney shared. "We've had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I'm married to." In response, Barack Obama told her not to "make me cry right at the beginning of the show." "Don't let me start tearing up now," he said. This isn't the first time Michelle Obama has touched on split rumors. In June, she pushed back on speculation during NPR's Wild Card with Rachel Martin. "It's like, OK, so we don't Instagram every minute of our lives," the Harvard Law School graduate said. "We are 60. We're 60, y'all. We just, you just are not gonna know what we're doing every minute of the day, you know?" What People Are Saying IMO teased the Barack Obama episode on Tuesday with a video posted to Instagram. In the comments, fans shared their excitement for the conversation. Black Panther actor Ricky Barksdale wrote in a note with 6,964 likes: "Hey man we need you back here, this babysitter is crazy." HBCU Symphony founder, who goes by @sirthebaptist on Instagram, said in a message: "Man I miss this guy being in charge of America." @_fabulousray shared in a reply with 56 likes: "I AMMMMMMMM SO ELATEDDDDDDDDD THAT OUR FOREVER PRESIDENT WILL FINALLLLLLLLY BE ON THE @imopodcasts. I have been waiting on his appearance since this podcast launched 4 months ago! God really does answers prayers. I am ready to see the swag and hear the laughter and jokes all while gaining more wisdom. I love y'all so much." @thenajahall remarked: "Mom and Dad!!!" @gemstone2014 added: "Very good conversation." Josh Allen ‘didn't react too great' to NFL's birthday surprise
Josh Allen's birthday didn't come bearing gifts from the NFL. The Bills' star quarterback learned on May 21 — the day he turned 29 — that the Bills would be featured in 'Hard Knocks' and most of his training camp would be spent with a camera following him around. 'It was quite a surprise,' Allen told USA TODAY Sports on Monday. 'Typically, teams that make the playoffs were never a part of that conversation.' Advertisement 4 The Chicago Bears were on Hard Knocks in 2024. TNS The Bills made the playoffs and narrowly missed out on a Super Bowl berth after they lost to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game this past season. Previously, league rules prohibited teams that had made the playoffs in the last two years, had a first-year head coach, or had appeared on the show in the last 10 years from being selected for 'Hard Knocks.' Advertisement 4 Josh Allen and the Bills will be featured on Hard Knocks. AP Owners voted to eliminate the playoff stipulation before the 2024 season. 'I probably, initially, didn't react too great to it,' Allen said. 'But I do think it's a cool opportunity for people to see some of the great men we have on our team and some of the great women we have in our staff as a whole. 'So I think it's a thing we can't let distract us. Got to keep the main thing the main thing. But I also think it could be a fun opportunity for guys to show their personality. And people get a better insight for how the Buffalo Bills operate.' Getty Images The Giants were roundly criticized while on the since-canceled 'Hard Knocks: Front Office' show that followed around their coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen while crucial offseason decisions were being made. Other teams that had a tough time on the show included Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders, who had a newly signed but already disgruntled wide receiver, Antonio Brown, on their team. Buffalo is a Super Bowl contender coming into 2025, and head coach Sean McDermott is under contract through 2027.
