State DGP witnesses SDRF demo by TGSP personnel
Trained TGSP personnel conducted a demonstration at the Boat Club in Hussain Sagar. They showcased their efforts to rescue victims who had drowned and those in distress in the water.
The SDRF was established with members from all battalions of the Telangana State Special Police to ensure effective rescue operations during flood situations. The Chief Minister inaugurated the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the Praja Palana Victory Day celebrations that took place last December.
SDRF teams were formed with personnel from Battalions Yusufguda, Adilabad, Ibrahimpatnam, Warangal, Mulugu, Kothagudem, Nizamabad, Kondapur, Bachupally, Nalgonda, Mancherial, and Siricilla. They were trained by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel.
They underwent two months of training at NDRF centers in Cuttack (Odisha), Arakkonam (Tamil Nadu), Vadodara (Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), and Vijayawada (AP).
Additional DGP of Law and Order Mahesh M Bhagwat, Additional DGP of TGSP Sanjay Kumar Jain, Commandant of Yousufguda Battalion Muralikrishna and others were present.

700 classrooms in Kota's govt schools are ‘ruined'
1 2 3 Kota: Class 11 student Alfi broke down in tears while describing the conditions at her govt school, which has been operating for decades in the nearly 350-year-old Nanta Mahal building in Kota city. Alfi's distress is similar to those of thousands of students in Kota, who are compelled to study in perilous environments. Fourteen school buildings have been identified as requiring immediate demolition to prevent accidents, and around 700 classrooms in 1,057 govt school buildings in the district have been classified as "damaged and ruined". Despite requests for maintenance funds for 200 school buildings, only 26 schools have received allocation of Rs 2 lakh each under SDRF fund. The govt senior secondary school at Nanta, which also accommodates primary and upper primary classes with around 600 students, has been running for decades in the centuries-old building. The school also lacks ownership documents for the building and is ineligible for maintenance funds. Following the school tragedy in Jhalawar, the Kota education department has initiated process for relocating the school. Narpat Singh Hada, assistant sngineer for Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SMSA), Kota, who surveyed the school, stated, "The centuries-old Nanta Mahal school is not technically safe at all and can face structural failure at any time."

Uttarkashi crash: Chopper hit overhead cable during emergency landing, says probe agency AAIB
The Bell 407 helicopter that crashed in Uttarkashi on May 8, killing six people, including the pilot, had struck an overhead cable during an emergency descent, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said in its preliminary report. Ltd., had taken off from Kharsali Helipad at 08.11 IST, bound for Jhala Helipad with six passengers on board. It was a single-pilot operation following an earlier routine hill familiarisation flight conducted earlier the same day. 'The purpose of the flight was Charter flying for Char Dham Yatra. This was a single pilot operation flight, and this sector was planned to be operated by another pilot. The assigned flight level for this entire sector was 10,500 ft AMSL... The helicopter airborne again at 08:11 IST from Kharsali helipad,' the AAIB report stated. Roughly 20 minutes into the flight, investigators added that the helicopter began descending from its assigned altitude and attempted an emergency landing on the Uttarkashi-Gangotri Road (NH 34), near Gangnani. During the descent, the helicopter's main rotor blade struck an overhead fibre cable running parallel to the road. The impact damaged nearby metal barricades, and the aircraft subsequently tumbled down a steep slope, coming to rest against a tree approximately 250 feet into a gorge. Helicopter crashed 250 feet into gorge after 20-minute flight: AAIB report 'The helicopter flew for 20 minutes before descending from its assigned altitude... Eventually, it came to rest against a tree, approximately 250 feet deep into a gorge,' the report said. 'The pilot and five passengers were fatally injured in the accident, while one passenger sustained serious injuries. The helicopter was destroyed in the crash. However, there was no fire,' the report added. The AAIB confirmed the helicopter was airworthy at the time of the flight. A defect involving the tail rotor, where surface skin had peeled off, had been reported on May 3 and rectified by May 7. 'The last defect reported by the pilot was 'surface skin peeled at the tail rotor tip'... the Certificate to Release to service was issued on 07th May 2025,' the report reads. The aircraft, built in 2008, had its last scheduled inspection on April 25, 2025. 'The BELL 407 helicopter was manufactured in 2008... The last scheduled inspections were carried out on April 25, 2025,' it added. The wreckage has been moved to a secure facility for detailed examination. Experts from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Canada's Transportation Safety Board (TSB), and Rolls-Royce are supporting the ongoing investigation. 'The investigation team visited the accident site and carried out an onsite investigation... The identified helicopter and engine components were brought to the AAIB Headquarters by the investigation team,' the report said. Coordination with international agencies and technical specialists is underway to determine the root cause of the crash.

8 dead, 5 hurt as jeep falls into gorge in Pithoragarh
Pithoragarh: Eight people were killed and five others injured when a jeep plunged into a deep gorge in Suni village in the Thal area of Pithoragarh district, officials said. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance to the families of the deceased. The incident occurred when the vehicle, carrying passengers to Bokta village from Muwani market, lost control and fell into a gorge, Station House Officer of Thal police station Shankar Singh Rawat said. He said the deceased include five women and three men, all local residents, and the driver is among those killed. Upon receiving information, a police team and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, launched a rescue and relief operation. The injured were pulled out of the gorge and admitted to a hospital in Muwani for treatment, officials said. Pithoragarh District Disaster Management Officer Bhupendra Singh Maher said that all eight bodies were recovered. He said that prima facie, the cause of the accident appears to be driver negligence and overloading of the vehicle. District Magistrate Vinod Goswami also said that the vehicle appeared to be carrying more passengers than its capacity. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on the social media platform 'X', 'The condolences expressed by the Prime Minister on the Pithoragarh road accident and the financial assistance provided from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund will give strength to the bereaved family in this difficult time.' He added that the state government would also provide Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. 'The state government stands firmly with the families of the deceased and is committed to providing all possible assistance to the injured,' Dhami said.
