HC allows students to apply for medical admissions sans ‘4-yr study in T' norm
1 2 Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Wednesday directed state authorities and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to allow students, who challenged the 'four-year study in Telangana' requirement, to apply for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses for the 2025 academic year. The court reiterated its earlier stance that students who are domiciled in Telangana and possess a valid residence certificate from a tahsildar must be allowed to apply for admissions, even if they have not studied in the state for the preceding four years. Senior counsel B Mayur Reddy, appearing for the students, argued before a bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice P Sam Koshy that the university's latest admission prospectus contradicted the high court's previous directions. Dog sterilisation resumes in Panchkula after a long halt
Panchkula: After months of delay due to bureaucratic hurdles, Panchkula's dog sterilisation programme has finally resumed. The initiative, crucial to managing the growing stray dog population, was suspended for several months after the previous contractor's agreement expired, and the Municipal Corporation (MC) failed to appoint a new agency on time. "A new agency has now been appointed and has been allotted the work for one year. But since this is the monsoon season, the programme is slow right now because healing takes time. After the monsoon, our campaign will pick up pace," said an officer of the Panchkula Municipal Corporation. The sterilisation programme, which earlier covered around 500 dogs per month, was abruptly stopped, leaving residents increasingly anxious. As per Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, about 300 to 400 dog bite cases are reported per month in Panchkula. "We're surrounded by stray dogs, and the numbers are clearly increasing. It's frustrating that the MC didn't plan in advance to ensure there is no gap in the operation. The tendering process should have started well before the previous contract ended. Mysuru: The "black worm disease" in coconut trees, also known as black-headed leaf-eating caterpillar disease, has affected growers in the twin districts of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. This comes at a time when farmers are fetching decent prices for coconut and tender coconut crops. A large number of farmers are cultivating coconut in the twin districts, covering nearly 19,793 hectares, including 12,617 hectares in Chamarajanagar district. According to sources, about 4,679 hectares of coconut palms were affected by the disease. Farmers in Santhemarahalli, various villages of Hanur, Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar district, and villages in T Narasipura, HD Kote, and Nanjangud taluks in Mysuru district were the worst sufferers. Even though the farmers are spraying pesticides and insecticides using drones, both manual and machine sprayers, the disease is not coming under control and is affecting the yield.
