Longtime Bentley collector Mark King has taken delivery of a Bespoke Bentayga Apex Edition by Mulliner, a vehicle that completes his one-of-a-kind Le Mans-inspired collection. The Northern Ireland-based enthusiast now owns a matching pair of Le Mans Collection Bentleys, with the Bentayga joining his 2023 Continental GT Le Mans Collection in the same Verdant Green and Moonbeam livery.
The Bentayga Apex Edition is one of just 20 examples worldwide, hand-built by Mulliner and exclusively available to owners of the Le Mans Collection Continental GT or GT Convertible. This pairing marks the 20th anniversary of Bentley's 2003 Le Mans victory, which ended the brand's 73-year hiatus from the winner's circle at the prestigious endurance race.
King's Bentley collection reflects his deep appreciation for the brand's high-performance and luxury vehicles. His latest Apex Edition Bentayga joins an already impressive lineup, including a Bentayga Speed, Continental GT3-R, and a Continental Flying Spur. Known for using his Bentleys extensively, King has logged over 100,000 miles in his Bentayga Speed, often using it to transport other vehicles in his collection.
His decision to commission the Le Mans Collection Continental GT in 2023 made him an ideal candidate for the matching Apex Edition Bentayga. Bentley's exclusive offer to existing Le Mans Collection owners made the decision easy, and King was quick to secure his place among the 20 recipients.
The Apex Edition Bentayga: Performance Meets Heritage
Based on the Bentayga S, the Apex Edition is the most dynamic iteration of Bentley's SUV yet. Powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, it delivers 542 horsepower (550 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque, propelling the luxury SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
Performance enhancements include:
Bentley Dynamic Ride for improved handling
Rear-wheel steering for agility
22-inch Mulliner carbon wheels, reducing unsprung mass by 44 kg
Carbon-ceramic brakes for superior stopping power
Le Mans-inspired livery, exclusive to owners of the Continental GT Le Mans Collection
This Bentayga not only offers enhanced handling but also maintains Bentley's signature luxury with an interior crafted from Beluga hide and Dinamica fabric, accented by contrast Hotspur stitching.
King's Le Mans Collection Continental GT, introduced in 2023, was built to honor Bentley's six victories at Le Mans. Inspired by the #7 Speed 8, which took the checkered flag in 2003, the GT features:
Verdant Green exterior with Blackline accents
Painted #7 grille in Arctica White
Carbon-ceramic brakes with red calipers
22-inch ten-spoke black wheels
A special inlaid emblem commemorating Bentley's six Le Mans wins
A standout feature of all Le Mans Collection Bentleys is the Rotating Display, which includes a vitrine containing a real engine valve from the 2003 Speed 8 race car—a tangible connection to Bentley's racing legacy.
With this Le Mans-inspired Bentayga Apex Edition, Mark King's collection now stands as one of the most exclusive Bentley stables in the world, blending performance, history, and bespoke craftsmanship.

This week in EV tech: What makes a good luxury EV?

Whether it's an established automaker trying something new or a freshly-funded startup looking to find its niche, electric cars present more questions than which battery supplier or charging standard to use. They give automakers a chance to define — or redefine — themselves. But while self-reinvention can be invigorating, it's not always necessary. In this century, Bentley has crafted a distinctive and appealing identity for itself, and its ultra-wealthy customers aren't exactly the best target audience for EVs. Yet the automaker does still plan for an all-electric lineup by 2035. A recent drive of the storied British automaker's current lineup shows that an electric Bentley can still be a Bentley. Recommended Videos Big cars with big personality After decades in the shadow of Rolls-Royce, Bentley has enjoyed a renaissance under the stewardship of the Volkswagen Group. Ornate yet aggressive, modern Bentleys maintain the brand's high-end status while offering a sporty driving experience that nods to its legendary racing exploits. Epitomizing that is the new Bentley Bentayga Speed. This latest version of Bentley's only SUV is appropriately kitted out for a roughly $280,000 car, with soft leather, carpets that wouldn't look out of place in your living room, and a refined ride. Riding in the back seat for the trip from the hotel to the airport was just as comfortable as the first row, a sensation best described as the automotive equivalent of wear noise-cancelling headphones. But slip behind the wheel and put your foot down, and the Bentayga Speed provides a completely different experience. Despite looking inside and out like a cartoon caricature of a rich person's country-club shuttle, The Bentayga Speed devours tarmac in a way that would make its distant race-car ancestors proud. Rear-wheel steering, torque vectoring, and the biggest brake rotors on a production car (at 17.3 inches, they're bigger than the standard wheels on a Toyota Corolla) help the Bentayga defy its considerable curb weight in corners, while a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 does the same for the straights. Last of the (non-hybrid) V8s An upgraded version of the engine used in others versions of the Bentayga, this V8 generates 641 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. That propels the Bentayga Speed from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 193 mph, according to Bentley. That makes this the quickest-accelerating and fastest iteration of the Bentayga yet, but a Lucid Gravity matches its zero to 60 mph time with a pair of electric motors (which generate even more power). With the rest of Bentley's lineup switching to plug-in hybrid powertrains, the Bentayga Speed will likely be the brand's last volume-production model without some form of electric assist. Bentley representatives said this imbues the non-hybrid Speed with a better power-to-weight ratio, but based on previous experience in the plug-in hybrid Continental GT Speed coupe and a quick spin in a Flying Spur plug-in hybrid sedan, it's hard to imagine hybrid system not making up for any deficit. And while the Bentayga handled impressively well for a heavy vehicle, there's nothing technically keeping the Bentley engineering team from imbuing an EV with similar qualities, as the sharp-handling Gravity again demonstrates. What really sets the Bentayga Speed apart is its soundtrack. The roar of a V8 is the quintessential automotive sound, and it plays here without any artificial augmentation, and enhanced by an available titanium exhaust system. Perhaps it's the conditioning of endless television and movie sound effects, but it's hard to separate the sound of a V8 from the act of driving. So much so that, even though it's perfectly pleasant to cruise along on electric power in one of Bentley's plug-in hybrids, it's all too tempting to fire up the engine just to hear it — even if that defeats the purpose of these hybrid powertrains. Engaging the senses Future Bentley EVs may be quieter, but the automaker will still be able to engage the senses through its artful interiors. The quality of the leather upholstery and wood trim, or the imaginativeness of the color palette, aren't dependent on the powertrain, after all. And Bentley's experience with making big, heavy vehicles handle properly should give it a head start on developing vehicles upwards of 1,000 pounds of batteries crammed into them. In fact, there's very little about the Bentley character that can't be applied to an EV — if the automaker chooses to. Bentley announced last year that its first EV would be a 'luxury urban SUV' that won't replace any of its existing models, and will be smaller than the Bentayga. That hints at an entry-level model slotting below the current SUV, so the real question isn't whether an EV can be a Bentley, but whether Bentley will make this one a watered-down model designed to hit a certain price point or volume. That's essentially the same strategy it took with the Bentayga, and on versions that aren't fully kitted out, the parts sharing with other Volkswagen Group brands that made that happen is apparent. Bentley should really be moving in the opposite direction. Electrified performance vehicles continue to show their stuff While few EVs reach the heights of luxury Bentley is known for, performance is an EV specialty. This week, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the AMG GT XX concept, previewing the first dedicated EV from its AMG performance division. A low-slung four-door with a trio of axial-flux motors producing 1,341 horsepower, it features battery tech created with lessons learned from Formula One racing, and 850-kilowatt fast-charging hardware that would dramatically cut charging times if implemented on a production car. The annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has become a showcase for EV performance, and this year was no different. A modified Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and a purpose-built racer loosely based on the Ford Mustang Mach-E both won their classes. Competitors aim for the best time over a 12.4-mile course that climbs to the 14,115-foot summit of Colorado's Pikes Peak, an altitude high enough to affect the performance of internal-combustion engines. That's not a concern for EVs though, which is one holds the overall record. Speaking of records, Porsche proved that its latest Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid is faster around a track than its non-hybrid Turbo S predecessor. The 621-hp plug-in hybrid shaved half a second off the old model's lap time at Road Atlanta with a 1:30.9-second time that Porsche claims is a new record for production sedans at the Georgia track.

Tesla Cybertruck has a bad rap. So she gave hers a peach of a wrap

Christel Virag knows her main vehicle is one some people love to hate, whether it's due to its futuristic appearance, or because its creator, Elon Musk, is a highly polarizing figure. In her eyes, her 2024 Tesla Cybertruck is just peachy … the same colour the vehicle's stainless-steel body is wrapped in. Although Virag, who lives with her family in Georgetown, also has a Cadillac Escalade and a Lamborghini Aventador, the angular Cybertruck is the vehicle she gravitates to. 'I grew up in a single-parent, low-income home, and I didn't even know what a Lamborghini or Bentley was. I wasn't into cars. About nine years ago, my husband and I had a Range Rover that had been wrapped. I was pregnant with our first child. I have a background in marketing and we were getting so many compliments on the Range Rover and its wrap, that we took a risk and opened our own vehicle wrap business ( as a small shop in 2016. Fast forward to 2025 and we have headquarters in Mississauga and 15 locations, including in Florida and South Africa. We have a saying that if you want to wrap Teslas, you need to own one. The business has a fleet of 10 to 15 of (the) cars, in different categories, for that reason. I ordered the Cybertruck two-and-a-half years ago online with a $250-deposit, and was on a waiting list for two years. I got it in January 2025, straight from the dealership. It was a brand-new car, and, because it's considered a commercial vehicle, I didn't have to pay luxury tax on it. (A federal luxury tax that normally applies to vehicles costing more than $100,000; the Cybertruck's weight of 4,000 kg puts it above the weight threshold for the tax). It looks like something from outer space. I've never had an electric car before. It's practical because it's a pickup truck. I have three kids who have bicycles and play hockey and rep soccer, and it has plenty of room to stow their stuff. It's similar to all the other Teslas, with a tiny half steering wheel and no shifter. Everything is on a screen, telling you if it's in reverse or whether it's low on windshield wiper fluid, for example. The mirror, itself, is on the screen. It's still a learning curve. It has automatic brakes and will slow itself down, and when I switch to another vehicle, I have to remember to use the brakes. It's almost like driving a spaceship. You push the gas and then it jolts forward, but it's so smooth. You don't hear the engine. It's incredible that something that's so big and so heavy is so quiet and feels so smooth. It's like you're flying on a cloud. (The Cybertruck reportedly can go from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds). I don't drive it fast, though. The car I drive is often determined by how many children I have that day. The Cybertruck has five seats, and it's so spacious, even though it looks small from the outside. In the back seat, the children have their own screen, with Netflix, YouTube and games. The car has a microphone you can use to talk to someone outside. If I take my kids to the park, I can sit in the truck and watch them play, then use the microphone and say 'OK, it's time to go,' when we have to leave. The Cybertruck was the typical stainless-steel exterior when I got it in January, but now It's got a peach wrap, including the rims, and I love it. It's my first electric truck. I don't love my Escalade, and, although I love my Aventador, the more practical car is the Cybertruck. I drive it 90 per cent of the time. I love that it's fully electric and I can charge it, and that it's so super safe. There are no blind spots, because there are so many cameras and warnings if vehicles are too close in front or behind you. It does all kinds of light tricks, with different themes for different holidays, and you can put on a light show with music for different occasions. You can sync two Cybertrucks together to do a light-and-sound show, and we've done that, as I have the pink one and my husband has a blue one. All of my cars are some shade of pink. The Escalade is pink, the Lamborghini is faded pink. My seven-year-old daughter loves it. The Cybertruck is so weird looking, people either love or hate it. But it's a perfect driving advertisement, (both) because it is weird-looking and because of its colour. I have driven it to Ottawa to one of our business locations, and to Indiana for my sister's graduation. To be honest, I was super worried about driving to the States in it (because of the backlash against Musk and Tesla), as people seem a lot more vocal and there's been more vandalism against Teslas. But there was no problem and everyone who saw it was giving it a thumbs up. I think because it is pink, it's less hated. On a full charge, it has a range of 500 km When it's cold, I lose about 50 km, which isn't bad. The great thing is that Tesla charging stations are everywhere now, and when I was travelling to Indiana, I typed in the destination and mapped the route to include charging stations, and it told me I'd need to stay for 25 minutes to charge. We had a charger installed at home, and I plug it in and charge it overnight. I don't necessarily go cruising, as I'm always driving. I did take it and the Lamborghini to two children's fun fairs recently and let kids climb into them. I drive the Cybertruck year-round. It won't get stored for the winter. It is a super good winter car. It tells you when the road is slippery and will go into snow mode. It's trained how to drive in snow. It's 100 per cent my favourite vehicle. 2027 Jaguar EV Type 00 Spied Near Nurburgring

The latest car news, reviews, and features. The next era of Jaguar is currently being developed before our eyes. The first of three EVs expected to debut later in 2025 has been spied prowling the public streets surrounding the Nurburgring in Germany. The EV is a large grand tourer and will be the production variant of the Type 00 concept car shown in 2024. Despite the heavy camouflage, the electric prototype for the production car clearly resembles the Type 00 concept's design. Unrealistic elements from the concept such as the slit-like lighting appears to be replaced by functional production-intent units. The mile-long hood will make it to production despite the lack of a gas-powered engine. Jaguar's toned down the rear end a bit while making the leap from concept to reality with a more tapered, practical, set of lines. It's unclear at this point whether the production car will have a glass rear window or forego that practical piece of visibility in the name of design like the concept car. A large charging port door can be seen on the driver-side front fender. Despite the concept having two doors, the production car will be a four-door with frameless windows. Expect seating for four adults, though the back seat may skimp on legroom compared to a Bentley Flying Spur. Yes, Bentley Flying Spur, and Rolls-Royce Ghost. Those will be the competition when the production iteration of the Type 00 arrives. Jaguar's rebrand is intended to move the iconic automaker upmarket into a low-volume, high margin status symbol brand. The previous business plan of volume with the XE and E-Pace sedan and crossovers, which were meant to chase after BMW 3-Series and X3 sales, will be a distant memory. The rebranding has not gone without missteps. The outsourced situation led to reported infighting within the automaker. The Type 00 will ride on a new platform dubbed Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Little is known about the platform outside of the ability to have up to 1,000 horsepower and up to 430 miles of driving range with up to 23-inch wheels. Jaguar has claimed the electrical architecture will be capable of adding up to 200 miles of range in 15 minutes when hooked to a DC fast charger. Expect the production version of the Type 00 to go on sale in 2026 and cost more than $150,000. An SUV and sedan variant are expected to arrive shortly after. Got a tip? Drop us a line at tips@
