The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance digital integration and data exchange.
The agreement was announced at MoFA's Abu Dhabi headquarters. It aims to establish a comprehensive institutional framework for sharing information and activating digital connectivity between both entities.
Officials revealed that the MoU is part of efforts to deliver high-quality services and promote effective partnership. It also aligns with the strategic vision of the Government of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates.
The MoU was signed by Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Customs.
According to MoFA, the initiative will support the development of a secure, integrated digital system for electronic data exchange. It ensures effective information sharing, strong data governance, and smart, interconnected services for stakeholders.
Omar Alshamsi stated that this collaboration supports the UAE's Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme. He added that the ministry has adopted a future-ready approach using artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
This move, he noted, helps streamline government processes, reduce delays, and eliminate unnecessary procedures. It contributes to better service quality, increased efficiency, and enhanced quality of life.
Rashed Al Mansoori reported that the MoU marks a major step for Abu Dhabi Customs in boosting digital integration across government sectors.
He emphasized the importance of secure data exchange with strategic partners to create an intelligent customs ecosystem. The initiative supports Abu Dhabi's aim to become a global trade and smart services hub.
It aligns with the UAE's plans for a diversified, knowledge-based economy.
Al Mansoori concluded that institutional excellence and digital transformation remain top priorities in achieving national goals.

China, ASEAN to submit upgraded free trade deal to leaders in October

China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to submit a pact upgrading their free trade areas to their leaders for approval in October, according to China's foreign minister Wang Yi on Saturday. Negotiations about the so-called 3.0 version of the free trade zone started in November 2022 and completed in May, seeking to cover areas such as the digital economy, green economy and supply chain connectivity. China and ASEAN also agreed on a five-year action plan that specifies collaboration between the two sides in over 40 fields in the coming years, according to a statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing Wang's comments after attending the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. Wang also said the two sides agreed to strive to complete consultations next year on a code of conduct in the South China Sea - a set of guidelines aiming to manage disputes in the region, where Beijing and several ASEAN members have overlapping maritime claims.
