Tension prevails over likelihood of protest if Akal Takht officiates Gargaj to address Sikh community ahead of Op Blue Star anniversary
The officiating Jathedar (High Priest) Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj is likely to address the sikh community on the anniversary.
The Sikh hardliner group Damdami Taksal's chief, Harnam Singh Dhumma, has demanded that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) should stop Gargaj from doing so, as he has not been accepted by the Sikh community as the Jathedar.
Also, Nihang announced that they will not allow it to happen.
Thus, SGPC is worried as it may be challenging to maintain peace during the commemoration. Meanwhile, SGPC is trying to strike a compromise to defuse the issue.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami had recently visited the headquarters of Taksal at Gurdwara Gurdarshan Parkash at Chowk Mehta village.
A meeting that lasted for over one and a half hours to strike a compromise, assured that the issue would be resolved before the event.
Hoping for an amicable solution, Dhami said that a meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Takshal's chief Dhumma does not want Gargaj to deliver the customary speech on June 6, as various Sikh bodies have not approved his appointment.
"SGPC has never indulged in confrontation with Damdami Taksal. I hope an amicable solution will be worked out before the anniversary,'' he said.
Dhumma, who is now close to the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) following his support to the saffron party's Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra last November, has been reiterating that if Gargaj addresses the gathering, it will vitiate the atmosphere.
He added that they do not want any clash during the event and are fully ready to cooperate with the SGPC.
However, he said that they have been appealing that SGPC should appoint a Jathedar who is approved by the community and highlighted that the Gargaj is not approved by everyone.
"If a conflicting situation arises on that occasion, the responsibility will lie with the president of the SGPC,' he asserted.

Jalandhar: After finance minister Harpal Cheema on Tuesday raised the issue of the Justice Gurnam Singh Commission report on the incidents of sacrilege and police firing in Nakodar in 1986, and its action taken part missing from the assembly record, the family of one of the victims alleged that the issue was being used to distract from the real matter at hand while the AAP govt actively blocked efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Nakodar massacre to justice. He said that AAP MLAs HS Phoolka and Kanwar Sandhu were the first to raise the issue strongly in the Punjab assembly, and later Cheema and Sandhwan also raised these issues during their time in opposition. "However, after being in power for over three and a half years, they are now using this issue cynically to distract from the real matter at hand. Since taking office, they have actively blocked efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Nakodar massacre to justice," said Baldev Singh. "We have sent seven letters to chief minister Bhagwant Mann, copies of which were also sent to finance minister Cheema and Speaker Sandhwan. Instead of addressing these concerns, they have shielded the perpetrators of the Nakodar police killings," he alleged. Baldev Singh also alleged that his request to Speaker Sandhwan on Sep 29, 2022, was later manipulated by the state's attorney's office to "mislead" the high court, resulting in the disposal of both of his petitions on Oct 7, 2023, even as these petitions were only possible because of AAP's initial support. "Despite these repeated efforts, we have yet to receive any tangible response or action on our grievances. This continued inaction has only compounded the pain and anguish of the victims' families, who have been waiting for almost forty years for justice and accountability. The AAP govt has not taken a single concrete step to deliver justice in the 1986 Nakodar police firing, the 2015 Bargari case, or the sacrilege cases of Guru Granth Sahib," he said. "If there is genuine commitment to justice, order a time-bound CBI inquiry into the 1986 Nakodar killings, the illegal cremation of four unarmed Sikh youths, and the disappearance of Part Two of the judicial report. File charges and arrest the police officials responsible for these atrocities. Without accountability, there is no closure. To this day, not a single perpetrator of Nakodar or Bargari has been brought to justice," he added.

3 threats for Golden Temple on 3rd day; SGPC chief to cops: ‘Wake up'
Amritsar: The committee that manages the Golden Temple on Wednesday received three fresh threat emails warning of an attack at the iconic Sikh shrine, taking the number of such messages to five within just 36 hours and sparking demands for quicker action. The latest threats came even as police were yet to trace the origin of the first email that was sent on Monday. Amritsar police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said they had obtained some IP addresses, and the content of the emails suggested they had been sent from a south Indian state. "We are ensuring security and there is no need to worry," he added. Free online coaching for minority BPSC aspirants
Chhapra: Minority students from Saran aspiring to appear in the 71st BPSC preliminary examination can now avail top-tier coaching from the comfort of their homes, completely free of cost. The facility is being offered in online mode and applications can be submitted till July 19. The coaching will be conducted from Haj Bhawan in Patna and students will have access to some of the country's best faculty through both offline and online formats. The original deadline of July 12 has been extended. Releasing this information, Saran district minority welfare officer Ravi Prakash said on Wednesday that interested students can apply either online or offline. Once their applications are approved, they will receive login credentials to directly join the live classes being conducted from Haj Bhawan. The system also allows students to clear doubts in real-time through their login. Prakash said the coaching programme has been organised under the supervision of Haj Bhawan as part of a plan by the minority welfare department. "Earlier, this facility was restricted to selected candidates only. But now it has been extended online to benefit minority students from in various districts," he said. He added that students belonging to Buddhist, Sikh, Parsi, Christian, Muslim and Jain communities are eligible under the minority category and can take advantage of the programme.
