From Influencer To Peddler: Rajasthan Social Media Star Caught With MDMA On Gujarat-Bound Bus
Choudhary reportedly told police that she had received the package from a woman named Chanani Devi, a known drug supplier in Barmer
A social media influencer from Rajasthan has been arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs while travelling on a state transport bus to Gujarat. The accused, identified as Bhanwari Devi alias Bhavika Choudhary, was caught with 152 grams of MDMA concealed in her laptop bag.
Choudhary, a 27-year-old resident of Vankalpura village in Barmer district, is known online by the name 'Bhavika' and has over 85,000 followers on Instagram. She was arrested on Sunday after the police received a tip-off and intercepted the bus in Chitalwana, Jalore district.
According to Baldev Ram, Station House Officer of Chitalwana Police Station, the woman had boarded the bus from Barmer Bus Stand after travelling from Jaisalmer. During a routine check, police found two packets of MDMA hidden inside her laptop bag.
Initial investigation revealed that the drug consignment was meant to be delivered to locations in Unjha and Mehsana in Gujarat. Choudhary reportedly told police that she had received the package from a woman named Chanani Devi, a known drug supplier in Barmer. She was allegedly paid Rs 10,000 per trip to transport the drugs.
The Barmer police had earlier received intelligence about the movement of drugs and alerted the Ramji Ki Gol Chowki checkpoint. However, the bus had already left the area by the time officers arrived. The alert was then passed on to Chitalwana police, who managed to stop the vehicle and make the arrest.
Sources said that once caught, Choudhary tried contacting friends and relatives for help, but no one responded.
Police said further questioning is underway to uncover the full extent of the drug network and identify others involved in the trafficking operation.
The arrest has caused a stir in Barmer and in the state as Choudhary was a recognised face on social media, particularly among young followers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Tuesday said it had seized a large consignment of uncertified consumer products from e-commerce platforms Flipkart , E-Kart , and Meesho in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, emphasising that several platforms are "facilitating the sale and distribution of hazardous goods". The BIS is conducting a nationwide enforcement campaign to curb the sale of non-certified and unsafe products that violate provisions of the Quality Control Orders (QCOs). As part of this drive, the BIS Vijayawada branch carried out a raid on July 14 at Mustabad village in Gannavaram mandal, targeting the three platforms, an official press release said. The seized products included electronics, LED bulbs, toys, and table fans-all in violation of Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016, Patnala said. Based on actionable intelligence and digital surveillance, it was found that several e-commerce platforms are enabling the sale of uncertified and potentially hazardous products, the release added. Section 17 of the BIS Act prohibits the sale, storage, or display of goods without the standard mark, while Section 29(3) provides for imprisonment of up to three years and fines up to Rs 10 lakh, or up to ten times the value of the seized goods. In applicable cases, violations under Section 79(2)(c) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Rule 3(b)(iv) & (v) of the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, will also be invoked for failure to exercise due diligence by the platforms, Patnala added. With over 800 products falling under mandatory BIS certification, all such goods must bear standard marks-such as ISI, CRS, Hallmark, or relevant system marks-and be sold only by licensed entities. Manufacture, storage, or sale of uncertified goods is punishable under law.
