UPSC Aspirant, 25, Dies By Suicide In Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar Area: Cops
A 25-year-old UPSC aspirant, Tarun Thakur, allegedly died by suicide in his rented accommodation in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan.
Delhi Police received a PCR call at 18:32 hours on July 19.
A suicide note was recovered from the spot, in which the victim held himself responsible for taking this step.
According to Delhi Police, he was a resident of Jammu. During the inquiry, it was revealed that the father of the victim had tried to contact him multiple times since morning, but received no response.
The victim's father then contacted the house owner and requested him to check. The owner accessed the second floor of the house, which had been rented to the victim, and found the room locked from the inside. He then entered an adjacent room having a common balcony, from where he saw the victim hanging inside the room. He immediately informed the police.
The room was opened, and an inspection was carried out. Police recovered his phone at his residence, where he had been residing for the last year. There are seven rooms on the second floor, all rented to UPSC aspirants.
The police informed Tarun's brother, Davinder, who resides in Gurugram.
They are currently conducting an inquiry and inspection.
In a separate case, a BDS student from a private university in Greater Noida allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room on Friday, said police.
Two university staff members were taken into custody in connection with the case, based on a written complaint filed by the student's family.
The victim's brother, Devender, said his sister took the extreme step due to the constant torment she faced. He further urged authorities to take action against the remaining suspects.
"My sister committed suicide after being mentally harassed by management and a lecturer, which led her to take this difficult step. After the FIR was filed, police arrested some of the accused whose names she mentioned in her suicide note. However, there are 3-4 more accused for whom no action has been taken. We are urging authorities to take strict action against them as soon as possible," Devender told ANI.

Goa, Manali And More: Cops, Having Affair, Go On The Run With Rs 2 Crore
New Delhi: A sub-inspector with the Delhi Police helped solve several cyber fraud cases. However, instead of returning the money, which came from the seized bank accounts, to the victims, he hatched an elaborate plan. He stole more than Rs 2 crore and fled with his sub-inspector (SI) girlfriend. With the stolen money, they also vacationed in tourist hubs, like Goa, Manali and Kashmir. The cops - married to other people - wanted to start a new life under fake identities - a plan foiled by the Delhi Police. SI Ankur Malik, posted at Cyber Thana, North-East district, got the seized amount of crores released by obtaining an order from the court in the name of fake complainants and rerouted he money to the bank accounts of his acquaintances. After rerouting the money, Mr Malik - of the 2021 batch - went on a seven-day medical leave. And, never returned. Around the same time, Neha Punia - of the same batch - also went missing. She was posted at the GTB Enclave police station. A missing report was filed for both of them. During the investigation, it was revealed that the police official had siphoned off crores from cyber-fraud recoveries. Both Mr Malik and Ms Punia are married. Mr Malik's wife lives in Uttar Pradesh's Baraut, and Ms Punia's husband lives in the Rohini area of Delhi. According to the investigation, both of them became friends during police training in 2021. And police claimed the fraud was planned there itself. The probe team employed both technical surveillance and ground-level intelligence gathering to track the missing Sub-Inspectors. They were finally traced in Indore and arrested after four months of search. The police have recovered gold worth more than one crore rupees, Rs 12 lakh in cash, 11 mobile phones, a laptop, three ATM cards and other items from the accused. They had bought gold with the cheated amount so that the money could be disposed of easily, police said. Three more people - Mohammad Ilyas, Aafi alias Monu and Shadab - in whose accounts the stolen money was transferred have also been arrested. As per the police, Ankur Malik knew that no one would claim the seized amount, so he got the money released from the court by submitting false documents and then eloped. "With this money, he also went to places like Goa, Manali and Kashmir," said the police. "Later, after reaching Indore, he bought gold in exchange for cash so that tracking would be difficult. Their plan was to get fake IDs made and start a new life in the hilly areas of Madhya Pradesh. The police are now interrogating them to find out who else was involved in this fraud, they said.

2 Delhi Police sub-inspectors arrested in Rs 75-lakh cyber-fraud case
Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) Two Delhi Police sub-inspectors have been arrested for allegedly siphoning off money from case property related to cyber-crime investigations in northeast Delhi, officials said on Tuesday. The arrests followed an internal probe triggered by irregularities flagged during the disposal of cases at the Cyber police station in Northeast district, police said. Three FIRs were registered against the investigating officer who was missing since March 19. 'A special team led by Inspector Rahul, SHO of Cyber Police Station, and comprising SI Nandan Singh, Head Constables Amit and Rohan, and Constable Deepak, was constituted to investigate the matter," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Ashish Mishra said in a statement. During a routine audit of disposed-case properties, discrepancies in account statements and judicial order formats raised red flags. 'Detailed scrutiny revealed that forged judicial orders — supposedly issued in favour of complainants — had been used to siphon off Rs 75 lakh from cyber-fraud recoveries," the statement read. The team employed both technical surveillance and ground-level intelligence gathering to track the absconding officer, Sub-Inspector Ankur Malik (32), to Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Police sources said Malik had switched multiple SIM cards and was using encrypted applications to communicate with his associates. 'On July 18, a coordinated raid with local police was conducted at a rented flat in Indore. Malik and a woman accomplice, who is also an SI of the Delhi Police, were apprehended from the premises. During the raid, the team recovered Rs 12 lakh in cash, 820 grams of gold coins and bars, 200 grams of gold jewellery, 11 mobile phones, a laptop, three ATM cards and several incriminating documents," the statement read. 'Analysis of the laptop and mobile data pointed to a broader nexus involving the use of mule bank accounts to route the stolen money," said a source, privy to the investigation. During interrogation, Malik revealed the names of other accomplices, leading to subsequent raids in Delhi and the arrest of Mohammad Ilyaas (40), Arif (35) and Shadab (23) — all residents of northeast Delhi. The trio had allegedly provided their bank accounts to facilitate the illegal transfers in return for commissions. Sources said the accused were planning to settle permanently in Indore. The investigation is ongoing. PTI BM RC view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
