Several more BSO deputies suspended, fired in wake of Tamarac triple murder
At least five Tamarac district deputies were placed on administrative leave without pay: Dia Cross, Daimeon Nelson, Eric Baide, Eric Klisiak, and Lemar Blackwood, according to notices of suspension or termination obtained by the South Florida Sun Sentinel. A sixth deputy who was on probationary status, Stephen Tapia, was terminated Friday 'for failure to meet probationary standards.'
An angry Sheriff Gregory Tony had vowed to hold his deputies accountable following the shooting of Mary Gingles, her father, David Ponzer, and a neighbor, Andrew Ferrin, in a quiet Tamarac community on Feb. 16. Mary Gingles had repeatedly sought help from the Sheriff's Office, saying in a court petition that she believed her husband, Nathan Gingles, was going to kill her. Gingles is now charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
'There will be people that lose their job over this,' Tony had said at a news conference three days after the murders. 'And I'll make sure they don't win a damn arbitration.'
Tony had suspended seven deputies with pay immediately after the shooting. An eighth deputy was suspended shortly after. And the captain of the entire district, Jemeriah Cooper, was demoted to deputy before he was terminated in May.

At least 15 deputies have now been suspended or fired since the triple shooting. The five on Friday were suspended without pay entirely; some had previously been suspended with pay. The Sheriff's Office did not provide any details on their role the day of the shooting due to the ongoing investigation, but all five are being charged with not meeting BSO standards when it comes to an 'active shooter,' according to their notices.
Many of them also face charges relating to 'neglect of duty,' 'discretion,' and 'Body Worn Cameras.'
Another deputy, Daniel Lovallo, was placed on administrative leave with pay in April. One of the charges in his case has to do with 'meeting BSO standards' in relation to 'Domestic Violence/Dating Violence Case Procedure,' according to his notice.
Some of the deputies who were originally suspended with pay in February are now suspended without pay.
A sergeant, Travis Allen, whose suspension was one of the seven initially reported by the Sun Sentinel, went from administrative leave with pay to without pay on May 23. Allen had responded to the scene with other deputies setting up a perimeter about 6 a.m. on Feb. 16 and had spotted people matching the appearance of Nathan Gingles and his young daughter walking in the neighborhood from his car, according to the probable cause affidavit. He broadcast over radio that he had seen a man and a barefoot girl, 'however, due to the unknown circumstances of the call, deputies continued to canvass the area.' Charges Allen is facing include the active shooter-BSO standards charge, 'taking suitable action' and neglect of duty, according to the notice.

Some of the deputies suspended without pay on Friday face unique charges. Blackwood is facing a charge related to 'meeting BSO standards' when it comes to 'responsibilities of the field training deputy/tech,' and Klisiak is charged with 'meeting BSO standards' when it comes to 'Quick Response Force,' according to their notices.

73-year-old woman dies after weeks in the hospital following assault in Troy Hill
A 73-year-old woman died at the hospital weeks after an incident at a home in Troy Hill. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, back on June 2, they were called to a home in the 1800 block of Ley Street around 10 p.m. for a domestic disturbance. Once police arrived, they spoke with a 73-year-old woman who said she had been hit in the chest by a known relative. She was taken to the hospital to be evaluated. The father who jumped in and rescued his young daughter after she fell overboard from a Disney Cruise Line ship on Sunday morning was alerted of the incident by his wife, investigators say. The 5-year-old's fall — caused when she lost her balance while sitting on a railing and dropped backwards down a porthole — was instead seen by the mother, who 'alerted her husband, who didn't see the incident,' according to a Broward Sheriff's Office statement released Wednesday afternoon. New details provided by BSO ruled out speculation on social media that the girl was propped on the railing by her father, who was taking pictures of her. Some like TikTok user cmd.91, a passenger on the Disney Dream who witnessed the fall, were quick to defend the father, saying 'There has been no eyewitness that has come forward to say they saw the dad place the daughter in danger.' The fall happened at 11:30 a.m. from the fourth deck of the Disney Dream while it sailed in international waters between the Bahamas and Port Everglades near Fort Lauderdale, officials say. Deck 4 is about 20 feet above the sea and has some large portholes, according to news reports. The father, 37, jumped into the ocean to save his daughter. After treading water for nearly 20 minutes, the duo was rescued by crew members, who were launched from a tender on the ship. The ship's medical staff examined them. 'The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water. We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes,' a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson told the Miami Herald in a statement Monday. Details emerge from Disney cruise incident when father, daughter went overboard
After a father jumped in after his daughter fell overboard from a Disney Cruise Line ship Sunday, the Broward County Sheriff's Office released a statement clarifying details from its investigation. The pair were rescued by crew from the Disney Dream after the father treaded water with his 5-year-old daughter for about 20 minutes, the release said. The incident happened about 11:30 a.m. Sunday when the girl 'lost her balance while sitting on a railing and falling backward through a porthole,' the release said. The family were on Deck 4 of the ship, which features a wraparound walking track and railings mostly covered by plastic that would make it difficult for a child to climb over. There are parts of Deck 4, though, that have porthole features with a different railing protection design. Deck 4 is about 20 feet above the water line. The ship was returning from the Bahamas to Port Everglades at the end of a four-night cruise, and was in international waters. 'After the girl's mother alerted her husband, who didn't see the incident, he jumped into the ocean to save his daughter,' it continued. 'BSO detectives said after the 37-year-old father found his daughter, he treaded water until they were rescued by a tender that was launched from the ship.' Part of the reason the sheriff's office put out the release was because of 'misinformation.' Several social media posts have conjectured just how the child was in a position to go overboard. While detectives are still investigating, the sheriff's office said the account of the incident of the daughter's fall and the father's involvement has been confirmed. 'BSO detectives have reviewed the ship's security video, which corroborates the statements from the family and cruise ship staff,' the release stated. The release also praised Disney's 'man overboard' training, and once the pair, who have not been identified, were brought back on board, they were checked out by the ship's medical staff. After the rescue, Disney Cruise Line also praised the crew. Disney Dream is the lone Disney ship for now sailing from the line's new second home in Fort Lauderdale. Most of its ships are based at Port Canaveral to the north. 'This family is so blessed. It's great to be able to respond to good news rather than what could have been a tragic outcome,' the sheriff's office statement reads.
