Broome County parks opening for 2025 season
Memorial Day Weekend marks the grand opening of the season when boating, swimming, and camping begin at the County's parks.
Parks are open from 8 am to dusk daily. All parks have free admission and parking.
During the season, a variety of special events and programs will be offered including BroomeBands Together, Movies in the Park, the Broome County Triathlon, the 5K series, Beach Bash,and Spiedie Fest.
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the following amenities are available:
Boat rentals, 7 days/ week 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (last rental out at 6:30 PM)
Beaches open 7 days/ week 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Concessions are available at Nathaniel Cole and Greenwood 7 days/ week 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Camping open 7/days a week $30/ night + $5 reservation fee
Pavilions available for rental $30 weekday. $100 weekend & holiday + $5 reservation fee
The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Services reminds all visitors to follow parkrules and respect the beaches, boats, and other public park spaces.
Dogs are welcome at all parks. The county asks pet parents to please keep them on a 6-foot leash and clean up after them.

Fourteen people die in South Korea after torrential rain causes landslides and flooding
Five days of torrential rain in South Korea has left at least 14 people dead and 12 more missing. A landside engulfed houses and flooding swept away vehicles in the resort town of Gapyeong, northeast of capital Seoul, on Sunday. One person was killed after their house collapsed and another was found dead after being swept away by a swollen stream, while six people remain missing in the town and the southern city of Gwangju. The Interior and Safety Ministry said eight people were killed and six others reported missing in the southern town of Sancheong on Saturday after heavy downpours caused landslides, house collapses and flash floods. Earlier in the week, three people were found dead in a submerged car, and a person was also killed when their car was buried by soil and concrete after a retaining wall of an overpass collapsed in Osan, just south of Seoul. Southern regions have been hit by up to about 600-800mm (24-31 inches) of rain since the downpours began n Wednesday. About 3,840 people remained evacuated from their homes by Sunday morning. The heavy rainfall moved north overnight and alerts have been lifted throughout the country, ministry officials said.

Maps show where thunderstorms will hit UK this weekend as Met Office warnings issued
Thunderstorms and heavy downpours are set to hit the UK amid a spell of humid weather. Yellow warnings for storms have been issued across much of England on Friday and into the weekend, with the risk of sudden flooding and lightning strikes causing transport delays and power cuts. Temperatures will remain high, topping 30 degrees in parts of central and southern England on Friday. The yellow weather warnings are currently in place between 9pm on Friday and 6pm on Saturday. Met Office forecasters warn that spray and flooding could lead to difficulties for drivers, possible road closures, and the risk that some communities may become cut off as a result. Damage to homes and businesses is also possible from adverse weather conditions. On Sunday, the heavy showers are expected to continue, moving northwards throughout the day.
