Liverpool players join family of Diogo Jota and his brother for funeral held in Portugal - World
The service will be held at Igreja Matriz church in the Portuguese town of Gondomar, where Jota had a home.
Portugal's national team coach Roberto Martínez and several top Portuguese players also attended, including Manchester City duo Bernardo Silva and Rúben Dias and Manchester United's Bruno Fernándes.
Jota, 28, and his brother, André Silva, 25, were found dead near Zamora in northwestern Spain early Thursday after the Lamborghini they were driving crashed on an isolated stretch of highway just after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames.
The brothers were reportedly heading to catch a boat from northern Spain to go to England where Jota was to rejoin with Liverpool after a summer break.
Spanish police are investigating the cause of the crash, which did not involve another vehicle, they said. They said they believe it could have been caused by a blown tire.
Their bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family. A wake was held for them on Friday.
Jota's death occurred two weeks after he married long-time partner Rute Cardoso while on vacation from a long season where he helped Liverpool win the Premier League. The couple had three children, the youngest born last year.
Jota was born in Porto but started his playing career as a child on nearby Gondomar.
Silva played for Portuguese club Penafiel in the lower divisions.
Their loss led to an outpouring of condolences from the soccer world and Portuguese officials.

Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal ‘had to climb Mount Everest without oxygen' in shock Club World Cup win over Manchester City
CNN — Simone Inzaghi has only been head coach of Al-Hilal for a matter of weeks, but already he has led the Saudi Arabian side to the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup. Al-Hilal secured a spot in the last eight of the tournament in sensational fashion with a dramatic 4-3 victory against Manchester City on Monday, scoring twice in extra-time to produce arguably the biggest shock of the Club World Cup so far. Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo scored the decisive goal in the 112th minute – his second of the game after Phil Foden had equalized for Man City. Inzaghi, who only recently oversaw Inter Milan's Champions League final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, showered his players with praise after the match. 'The key to this result was the players, and the heart they put on the pitch tonight,' he said, per Reuters. 'We had to do something extraordinary because we all know Manchester City, that team. 'We had to climb Mount Everest without oxygen and we made it. All the players were exceptional in everything, in the possession phase, the non-possession phase.' Bernardo Silva bundled in the first goal of the game at Orlando's Camping World Stadium inside 10 minutes, setting up what many expected to be a routine victory for the Premier League side. Messi returns to MLS with spectacular double in Inter victory - World
Lionel Messi scored two brilliant goals to lift Inter Miami to a 4-1 victory over Montreal in Miami's return to Major League Soccer action on Saturday in the wake of their elimination from the Club World Cup. Miami were playing their first MLS game in more than a month. They had advanced past the first phase of the Club World Cup but fell 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 last week. Messi made sure there was no lingering let-down for Javier Mascherano's side, who are aiming to improve on their curent sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 32 points from 17 matches. "It is a great night, we took the three points that were very necessary to start thinking about the MLS again," Mascherano said. "It is never easy to reintegrate into the competition after the Club World Cup, and the players have done it perfectly." Messi was a key figure throughout, although it was his miscue that led to the first goal for Montreal. His backpass fell right in front of Montreal's Prince Owusu, who fired a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Oscar Ustari to make it 1-0 after two minutes. Messi more than atoned.
