Disney adults furious over ‘little known' dress code rule: ‘The magic got gatekept'
TikTok creator and Disney fan, Phoebe Parsons, took to social media to question what the go was with the dress code rule in place for teens and adults, after stumbling on the rule online.
'Disney on Ice, you have some explaining to do,' she captioned the clip.
With a backdrop of the fine print, Phoebe points out that Disney On Ice audience members are not permitted to wear a costume if they're over the age of 14 years.
It was a rule that she not only didn't know about until now, but also was shocked (and a little offended) to see it.
Why can't adults dress up too?
Speaking to Kidspot, Phoebe said that the rule felt a little restrictive for Disney fans, who love to dress up as their favourite character at any chance they get.

'Honestly, it just felt like a bit of the magic got gatekept,' she said.
'Do I think adults should be able to dress up with their kids? Within reason, yes. If a mum or a big sister wants to wear a matching Elsa cape, why not? It's harmless fun. The world's heavy enough, let people do things that fill them with joy. Even if it's wearing a tiara at 35,' she added.
When Phoebe shared the video on TikTok, she was met with a mixed response.
Some were equally shocked to see it.
'The audacity, right? I was offended too,' one person commented.
'THE DISRESPECT! Like I wanted to go for my BIRTHDAY and you bet your *** I was going to get dressed up,' another added.
'Actually cried when I saw this. I want to be Elsa,' another fan shared.
Disney on Ice's rule of entry explained
The costume rule for older audience members is clearly explained on the Disney on Ice website's FAQ page under 'inappropriate attire.'
'Costumes are not permitted for guests 14 years and older,' the website reads.
And that's not all, there were plenty of other restrictions placed on guest clothing too.
'Feld Entertainment and its affiliates reserve the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other guests,' the explanation continues.
Attire that is not appropriate and which may result in refusal of admittance includes, but is not limited to:
Costumes and costume masks, which may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older
Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
Excessively torn clothing
As stated above, clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
Clothing that touches or drags on the ground
Obscene or profanity tattoos
Parents should be thankful, not offended
Along with those shocked followers, many others who stumbled on the video said they already knew about the rule and respected that it was in place for good reason.

In fact, if parents dug a little deeper, they'd appreciate what it's there for.
'It's a safety rule. So children don't walk off with strangers dressed as princesses. You can still have fun, but it is important to keep children safe from people who might want to hurt them,' someone clarified.
'You can dress up, just not wear a costume, it's to stop adults being confused as staff, it really is a safety measure to protect children from possible unsafe people pretending to be staff,' another added.
Others highlighted that this rule wasn't just for Disney on Ice, but rather a general 'Disney' rule that is also enforced at their parks.
4 'Feld Entertainment and its affiliates reserve the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other guests,' the rules continue.
'I honestly think it's the same as the Disney parks, where they have the guidelines in place for a reason because a lot of kids will mistake people for staff or the paid princesses, and so it's just to keep things safe.'
It's called 'Disney Bounding'
At times like this, fans in the know resort to what has been dubbed as 'Disney Bounding' – a phenomenon where adults can still pay tribute to their favorite characters without having to completely dress up.
Fans are free to add a subtle little something from items they already own that resembles something that their favorite character has or represents.
Think, a yellow skirt for Belle from Beauty and the Beast, or a polkadot dress as a nod to Minnie Mouse.
Disney Bounding allows fans to celebrate without confusing little ones about who they really are.

While she completely respects why the rule is in place, TikTok creator Phoebe is still saddened that so many fans are restricted in the way that they can attend a fun outing with their kids.
'I totally understand and support policies around child safety (100% for it),' she told Kidpsot.
'But for a lot of people, dressing up isn't about being creepy or inappropriate, it's about nostalgia, bonding, and leaning into joy.'

Elan Bibas entered the "Love Island USA" villa with a disadvantage: He was added late, as part of a group of hunks sent to stir things up. He got out of university, did computer science and engineering and entrepreneurship, came out with a job at a consultancy, a tech consultancy, helping them code and advise. He was doing really well with that. I think he hit a ceiling in Toronto and was really craving to move to a new city. Obviously, Miami comes with the beautiful weather, so that's what moved him there. In the past few years, he's just got this virus to want to do these crazy ultramarathons and running. He formed a community of people in Miami doing that kind of stuff, and a lot of them are content creators within the health and wellness niche. He found that that was quite cool, and he's like, You know what? Wow, maybe I should start doing this a bit. So shortly before he got approached to be on the show, he started doing a bit of content around health and wellness, running, self-improvement — things along those lines. I didn't realize that's how the casting works. In terms of his day job, obviously, it's hard to take a month or two off to go shoot a reality show. What's the status of his job? His work seemed to be quite fine with it. They basically said, "You can definitely take on this opportunity, but take all paid time off first, and then everything after that would be unpaid leave." Knowing your brother, what's your reaction to what's happening on the show? At first, when I saw him on, I was excited, but I had that weird feeling where it's just like, "Oh my God, you never know how the public's going to perceive someone on TV." Honestly, I was quite surprised by how comfortable he seemed. I thought maybe he would sound a bit different or move in a different way. Right now, the way he's acting inside the villa is the exact same way he acts in real life. Cast members build big social followings during the show, which can lead to all sorts of lucrative opportunities. When Elan asked you to manage his socials, was that something very much at the top of your mind? I think Elan is not doing this for the clout or fame. Honestly, that's the last thing on his mind. He loves saying "yes" to opportunities. For him, it's all about going through this, living through this experience, and just having this bucket-list, once-in-a-lifetime experience to be able to say he did this thing. And through that, to form connections, build relationships, and meet a lot of cool people. Elan basically said, "Here's my login details. Do your best to keep things positive and have fun with it. Mostly just let it ride and just see how it goes." I guess I have my own strategy for how I want to manage his Instagram. I don't think he knows exactly that. I definitely see this as not just a business opportunity, but a way to help my brother out. I want to do the most I can to post good content, engage with the audience, and leave him in the best spot for when he comes out to have that seamless transaction of "OK, guys, he's back." And it's kind of that exact brand and audience that he's known for. I was studying a lot of the old contestants and seeing what their experiences were via their social presence, and so I was learning quite a lot from just looking at that. I do have a background also in digital marketing and social media. I worked as an intern at a big influencer-marketing agency in Toronto, so I kind of understand the nuances of how the industry works — I just never thought it would be my brother. It's been an interesting learning curve. Have you been approached by brands or business opportunities for him? How are you fielding these incoming things? I made a separate email account for him for his social accounts. There's a lot of random stuff coming in there. Going through it and figuring out what's legit and what's not takes time. I want to make this process as seamless as possible for Elan so that when he comes out I can say, "Look, I was taking care of everything when you were gone. This is what happened. We've got these brands, these people approaching you for these opportunities," and just go through it with him and see what is the priority right now, what makes the most sense. I wouldn't say there's a long list of brands, but there are talent agencies that want to represent him.

Astro was in the shelter for about two or three weeks before Nelson's spur-of-the-moment decision landed him in his forever home. She couldn't stand the thought of this senior dog spending another minute there, and the next day she returned for him. "I wasn't planning on adopting, but after I met him, I knew I had to bring him home, but I needed a day to get all of our supplies, so I came back the next day to pick him up!" she said. She wrote in the video caption that this became her "best spontaneous decision" ever. She said that "he's been doing great," and people often assume he is only a few months old, as he sports a new, youthful glow. However, he's just a senior dog living his best life in his golden years. "He is loving having his own space and going on new adventures," she said. "It seems like he's acting younger than he was when we first got him!" The dog's transformation from shelter life to being home with Nelson instantly captured people's hearts, and within three days, the TikTok video amassed over 4 million views, 912,500 likes and 4,780 comments. "He's aging backwards with you," pointed out a viewer. Another added: "Stop, you gave him his smile back." A third person said: "Thank you for giving him the life he deserves."
