Police in Chhattisgarh said that the six Maoists killed in an encounter on Friday were cadres of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) platoon 1 and were responsible for ensuring the safe passage of senior Maoist leaders.
The six had a collective bounty of Rs 48 lakh on them, police said.
One of the Maoists was identified as Rahul Punem (38), alias Lachhu Punem, from Dalla village in Sukma. He was a Divisional Committee member and commander of platoon 1. Four of the killed Maoists were women, officials said.
Inspector General of Police for Bastar Range Sundarraj P said, 'One AK-47 rifle, one SLR rifle, one 12-bore rifle, and 11 BGL launchers, among other weapons, were recovered.'
The Superintendent of Police for Narayanpur district, Robinson Guria, said there were multiple challenges during the operation. 'We had to cross several rivers and nullahs that were swollen and deep due to the rainy season. The nearest police camp was around 20-25 km away.'
The encounter took place in the Pariya-Kakur forest area in the Abhujmad region near the Maharashtra, Kanker and Narayanpur trijunction. The spot is about 50 km from Narayanpur district headquarters. Abujhmad region is larger than Goa in size and remains 90% unsurveyed.
The operation was undertaken by a joint team comprising District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel from Narayanpur, Kanker, Bastar, and Kondagaon districts, Special Task Force (STF) units of Chhattisgarh, and battalions of the Border Security Force (BSF).
So far this year, 221 Maoists have been killed in Chhattisgarh.

According to police, the 22-year-old woman is a distant relative of the victim and was aware of the cash and jewellery kept at his Wazirabad house. She roped in Keshav Prasad, 28, who runs a food supplement store in Haridwar, and Vivek Singh, 20, an unemployed student from Delhi's Johripur area, to hatch the plan. "On the evening of July 10, the trio knocked on the door of the complainant's house. Dressed in white shirts and black trousers with masks covering their faces, they introduced themselves as CBI officials from the Okhla branch," said the DCP. They claimed to be acting on an FIR and said that they had a warrant to search the house. When the family asked to see the document, they trio rebuked them and demanded cooperation.

UDUPI: An elderly resident lost nearly Rs 1.59 lakh in an online scam after attempting to cancel his Jio Hotstar subscription through a helpline number he found on Google . The complainant, Lokanath Bangera, 68, a resident of Kutpadi, stated that the incident took place on Saturday when he was at home and tried to cancel his Jio Hotstar subscription. He searched for the helpline number on Google. When he called a number, an unknown person redirected the call to another number. The complainant informed the person that he wished to cancel his subscription. He alleged that the fraudster then obtained the complainant's Google Pay details and, without his knowledge, accessed OTPs and fraudulently transferred Rs 99,500 and Rs 60,000 from two bank accounts. A case was registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
