Man dies after being rear-ended into oncoming traffic in western Wisconsin crash
The crash happened at the intersection of Wisconsin Highway 35 and 240th Avenue, south of the Village of Luck, at approximately 1:16 p.m., according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say a man driving a Toyota pick-up truck northbound on Highway 35 slowed down to make a left turn when he was struck from behind by a Chevy Silverado. The impact pushed the Toyota into the southbound traffic lane and an oncoming Dodge Ram collided with it.
Despite emergency medical care, authorities say the driver of the Toyota died as a result of the crash. His identity will be released later.
The sheriff's office did not say if there were any other injuries reported in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.

Wisconsin inmate Taylor Sanchez sentenced to life for beating cellmate to death in 2023
An inmate at Wisconsin's women's prison accused of brutally beating her cellmate to death will spend the rest of her life behind bars. Fond du Lac County Circuit Judge Tricia Walker sentenced 29-year-old Taylor Sanchez to life without parole Monday in connection with 68-year-old Cindy Schulz-Juedes' death in 2023 at Taycheedah Correctional Institution. According to a criminal complaint, staff at the Fond du Lac prison discovered Schulz-Juedes' body in the cell she shared with Sanchez in July 2023. Sanchez later called her mother and told her that she beat Schulz-Juedes to death with her bare hands because she had stopped taking her medication, was hearing voices and thought Schulz-Juedes had cleaned a toilet with Sanchez's toothbrush, the complaint says. Sanchez initially pleaded not guilty due to insanity. Online court records show she changed the plea in June to no contest, a legal construct in which defendants choose not to fight the charges against them but don't admit guilt. The plea results in a conviction the same as if the defendant had pleaded guilty or been found guilty by a jury. Sanchez was serving a two-year sentence for battery at the time of the alleged attack. Schulz-Juedes was serving a life sentence for killing her husband in 2021. Sanchez's attorney, public defender Michael Queensland, didn't return a message Monday.

Dundas homicide victim identified; search on for shooter
Hamilton police have identified 25-year-old Zachary Shuman of Dundas as the victim of a fatal shooting in a Governors Road parking lot Sunday. Investigators are now looking for a suspect who fled in a blue Ford Edge. Police were called to the area of 77 Governor's Rd., a condominium west Ogilvie Street in Dundas, around 5 p.m. and found Shuman unresponsive in a parking lot near the building, said Det. Sgt. Sara Beck, of the homicide unit. Heavy police presence expected in area of Governors and Ogilvie. His grey Dodge Ram pickup truck was found parked in the lot that is next to Chegwin Park Path. Witnesses described a blue Ford Edge leaving the scene. Detectives have learned there was a brief interaction between Shuman and the driver of that Ford Edge in the parking lot of the Metro, at 15 Governors Rd. — less than half a kilometre away — shortly before the shooting, Beck said. Police remained at the scene of a homicide near 77 Governors Rd. in Dundas Monday morning. The shooting took place Sunday. 'We know an interaction occurred, what the content was, the conversation or why it was happening we don't know,' Beck said of the brief interaction at the grocery store. 'It occurred while both Zack and the suspect were in their vehicles.' From there both vehicles travelled to the nearby parking lot, but Beck would not say whether one driver was following the other or the order they arrived. Police are also looking for woman, who is believed to be a witness, seen running from the area after the shooting. Beck said detectives believe she was in the area at the time of the shooting and they are looking to speak with her. She is described as having shoulder-length brown hair and wearing either red or orange shorts. 'The Hamilton Police Service extends our deepest condolences to Zachary's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,' Beck said, adding that they have asked for privacy. Police are asking members of the public who were in the area to check their surveillance and dashcam footage between 4:45 and 5:10 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call Det.
