Info sought from public on Puri stampede
The State government, through a public notice, urged the people to share information, video footage or any other materials related to the stampede which took place early on Sunday for a proper and transparent inquiry into the incident.
The public notice issued by the Planning and Convergence department also mentioned that any individual or organisation can share their information regarding how such an incident took place. 'The members of the public are urged to share information, video footage or any other material through the e-mail [email protected] by July 20,' an official said. This apart, the notice said that the interested persons can meet and share information with Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg at the State Guest House in Bhubaneswar after 3 pm on July 9 and at the Special Circuit House in Puri on July 10 after 3 pm.
The State government has also provided two landline telephone numbers (0674-2536882/2391970) of Bhubaneswar to facilitate the people to pass on their information to the team engaged in the inquiry of the stampede tragedy.
The State government, hours after the tragedy, had ordered an administrative inquiry into the stampede with Development Commissioner Anu Garg as its chief. Garg has already undertaken a preliminary investigation by visiting the place of the accident and also holding talks with different stakeholders including police. She is mandated to submit a report to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi within 30 days.

Andhra Pradesh Police on Saturday said that one of the two terror suspects recently apprehended in Tamil Nadu is a lone wolf who possesses sophisticated bomb-making abilities. The suspects have been identified as Abubacker Siddique and his associate, Mohammed Ali, who were arrested earlier this month. Siddique is suspected of being involved in the 2011 pipe-bomb plot targeting BJP leader and former deputy prime minister L.K. Advani during his Rath Yatra in Madurai. Police say that Siddique was ideologically influenced by fugitive preacher Zakir Naik. Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Koya Praveen told PTI that Siddique operated alone, sharing his technical knowledge with others who held similar extremist views. 'Zakir Naik school of thought. He is more of a lone wolf. Ideologically motivated and an expert in making IEDs and electronic devices, timer explosive devices,' said Praveen, according to PTI. Praveen further noted that Siddique is highly skilled in assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as well as various electronic and timer-based bombs. Earlier today, authorities searched additional locations linked to the suspects. While no explosives were found, police did confiscate several documents and pen drives. In previous raids, officers had seized a range of items, including daggers, sickles, digital timers, clock switches, speed controllers, ball bearings, nuts and bolts, binoculars, walkie-talkies, mobile phones, and hacking tools. Investigators also recovered maps of major Indian cities, coding manuals, literature inspired by ISIS, property papers, digital storage devices, chequebooks, and financial documents related to suspicious transactions. Zakir Naik, a controversial religious figure, is wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his involvement in unlawful activities and promoting religious hatred. In 2017, Bangladesh authorities claimed that one of those who attacked a cafe in Dhaka was inspired by Zakir Naik. The incident left 22 people dead. Later that year, India's NIA also accused Naik of indulging in unlawful activities and promoting religious hatred. Since then, Naik has been forced to live in Malaysia, a country that has given him protection and allowed him to operate his organisation, including Dubai-based Peace TV and Mumbai-based non-profit Islamic Research Foundation (IRF).

Ahead of Bahuda Yatra, Sudarsan Pattnaik creates sand sculpture in Puri
Puri (Odisha) [India], July 5 (ANI): Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik paid tribute to the Bahuda Yatra with a striking sand sculpture on Puri beach on July 4, as the coastal town geared up for the return of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra to the Jagannath Temple from Shri Gundicha Temple. Preparations for the ceremonial return of the chariots, Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, and Darpadalana, are also in full swing, as thousands gathered along the Grand Road (Bada Danda) to witness the divine procession. Girijashankar Sarangi, a devotee, shared the significance of the occasion: 'Mahaprabhu was born here at Gundicha Temple... Today, after nine days of celebrations, Mahaprabhu will be heading home. On the way, Mahaprabhu's chariot will stop at the Mausi Maa temple, where he will be offered poda pitha, and it will then be distributed as prasad among devotees. The procession will then proceed to the Shri Jagannath Temple.' Meanwhile, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Khurania expressed confidence in the peaceful conduct of the grand festival amid heightened security deployment. 'There is a lot of enthusiasm among the devotees who have gathered in large numbers. The administration has made an elaborate arrangement. About 205 platoons of police have been deployed, and senior officers are also present to monitor the entire arrangement. The entire town of Puri is under CCTV surveillance, and everything is being monitored from the control room,' Khurania told ANI. Security arrangements have been significantly strengthened outside the Shri Gundicha Temple, also known as the Mausi Maa Temple. Police presence has been enhanced, particularly outside the Shri Gundicha Temple, where nearly 10,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of the massive gathering of devotees. Speaking to ANI, Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra said extensive security measures are in place for the smooth conduct of the return chariot festival. He said, 'More than 10000 police personnel have been deployed... We have around eight companies of the RAF.' 'We have made elaborate police arrangements. Today, we are also expecting huge crowds of devotees who will join in this festival. Ensuring the safety of all devotees is our priority,' he added. Mishra highlighted that the annual festival is celebrated through the coordinated efforts of multiple stakeholders. 'This festival is celebrated with the coordination of many stakeholders. We are closely in touch with all the Sevayats, temple authorities, and the district administration,' he added. The coastal town of Puri is alive with devotion and cultural fervour as preparations peak for the Bahuda Yatra, the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra to the Jagannath Temple from Shri Gundicha Temple on Saturday. This marks the culmination of the annual Rath Yatra festival, drawing lakhs of devotees to the sacred city. Puri administration on toes for smooth Bahuda Yatra
PURI: In the eye of a storm over loss of three lives in a stampede near the Gundicha temple, the Puri administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure an incident-free Bahuda Yatra of the Trinity on Saturday. Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Friday held discussions with Daita and other servitors at Gundicha temple to ensure timely conduct of all rituals and to make the return car festival an incident-free event. The minister visited the integrated command and control centre and said the newly-introduced AI-powered digital surveillance system has been working effectively to manage the crowd. Speaking to mediapersons, Harichandan said human error led to the stampede that claimed three lives after chariot-pulling on the second day of Rath Yatra. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, the remaining rituals of the Trinity would be conducted smoothly, he added. Earlier, after the 'Herapanchami' ritual, the three chariots were skillfully maneuvered by police personnel and devotees from the entry gate of Gundicha temple and parked on Saradhabali in front of Nakachanadwar facing the main temple. This exercise is known as the 'Dakshina Moda'.
